There's a lot of ships... and a lot of ships need a lot of Silver Skulls!

I have many, many plans. Some of them are short-term ones (in terms of Gileas's story) and others are much more far-reaching. I'm throwing a few ideas at my editor (usually embedded in concrete for the MAX INJURY! effect) and we will see what gets wings. Nothing solid yet, but some optimistic feedback coming from certain quarters.

Welcome, and cheers for the new novel!

Looking forward to reading it, particularly as I have a crush on Huron since the Badab War IA motivated me into finishing him NMM-style.

Prolly not a reciprocated feeling though. I hear he's more into maiming, burning and all that jazz. But I hope the book about him will be good and that it's just the start to him with his own series of novels! There's just more to tell about the Badab War and what happened after that I think, and he seems a great antihero, right up there with Joe Abercormbie's characters.

    @Pyroriffic

How did you stay on track to finishing the manuscript? Were you tempted into fleshing out some part of the background for the events, characters etc that wouldn't make it in to the novel? Did you make any bios for your characters or something similar? It's one of my weaknesses. I started work on a short and then ended up making up the background for the series of events that would influence the short and a humongous dramatis personae list. I ended up with creating my own chapter with as much fluff I could throw in and the beginnings of a sector project that goes into detail about the worlds/people/regiments and so on in that sector. It's been a rollercoaster.

    Hello,
I'm liking the sounds of The Gildar Rift more all the time!

Is the plan with Christian Dunn and all that concrete to get him concussed enough that he'll approve that Void Cat novel?

I look forward to the fulfilment of the short term plans with Gilears!

Interestingly, I warmed to him far more the more I wrote about him. Although 'warmed' is perhaps entirely the wrong word. He's not a pleasant fellow, not at all. But he does have a bizarre kind of antihero thing going on. Despite being a complete bastard.

In terms of staying on track... well, from a practical viewpoint I went for the linear approach. I needed to write xxx thousand words and I set myself bite-sized monthly targets.

I was frequently tempted to deviate, but it's important to keep your eyes on the goal. I went for getting the story down first and then going back to flesh things out where appropriate.

There are desktop post-it notes all over my PC with little extra ideas for certain characters; but largely I carry most of it in my head. It's crowded in there.

I will confess. I don't really throw concrete at him. But I do annoy him constantly with questions. If I stop, maybe Void Cat would be a goer.

But then there's the interesting question - was he a bastard to start with or did he just turn into one as the events unfolded? IIRC the IA 9-10 are a bit biased in this regard but they don't go into exact details like a novel would, so there's plenty of room for character development...

There is indeed room for character development.

Of course, this particular story is set well into the illustrious Mr. Blackheart's Slightly Mental career. I would very much like the opportunity to delve more into what makes him tick. (Apart from all his implants, of course).

I picked up the book at GD and managed to finish it in record time. Here's the review.

    Re: The Gildar Rift

Thanks for sharing Shadowhawk, sounds like it should be a fun read. I've been looking forward to this one, shame I wasn't able to make it to games day this year. Sounds like it should be worth waiting for though.

Does it have any colour inserts or "extras" like some of the other Space Marine Battles books have had?

    Re: The Gildar Rift

Yes it does. Colour inserts of the Gildar system as well a generalized cross-section of an Astartes strike cruiser (the Dread Argent specifically), much less detailed than the ones in the Imperial Armour books. It only points out the main sections.

Thanks Shadowhawk, sounds like some nice extra's, looks like Decembers certainly going to be a good month for books...

I truly hope he was always a bastard. My world would be shattered if he wasn't.

He certainly never set up any shelter homes for abandoned kittens if that makes you feel happier?

And why should he?! He's the 'Agh! Hard Done By TM' Anti Hero!

Looking forward to reading the book. After reading ADB's depiction of Huron in Blood Reaver, I'm keen to see this depiction.

    Yes, muy happy.
I've plan to buy the Huron miniature with the daemon toad soonish. Mhm mhmm.

    Edited for clarity.
