Ulthuan rising, a high elf log.

    Okay, first some background.
I started collecting High elves back in the good old days when they came in the first warhammer boxed set. All the models were the same and there were cardboard cut outs for the Griffon rider, bolt thrower etc, changed days!

Although i took a 10 yr break from the hobby and have dabbled with many armies, they have and always will be, my first and favourite warhammer army.

Each time the range gets an overhaul i cant resist buying all the new models and starting an army from scratch. So it is my third High elf army im currently working on ( the others ebayed when new models came out, something i now regret) I actually started this army 3 yrs ago when the latest book and models came out but quickly " hit the wall" with painting as i`d just done so many of the pointy ears over the years!

However, with the Island of blood etc coming out and my other projects now finished i have decided to return and finish the job!

I will post up the models i have finished first but to be honest im not sure if i should just respray everything and start from scratch? Cant remember how i did most of them now and really like to keep a coherent look to my armies. This could be a problem, the eagle rider,

is my most recent paint job and i really think i will use those colours on the rest of my army. Dark metals with purple and white really work i think? However the older models dont really tie in. Would like peoples opinions on this?

So anyway here are the remaining models from when i started

Dragon mage ( copied from the book i know but old habits die hard) have managed to stop that now!

    Star prince

    Caradryan

    Battle standard

So thats them! In the next day or two i will be starting the army proper,

First units undercoated and ready to go are,

Really like these models and like to get some core done first!

Possibly my fav models gw has ever done! Bit worried about painting these guys as i hope i can do them justice.

One other thing, anyone have any tips for taking better photos? My camera is alright seems to be lighting thats the problem, defo think the models look better in the flesh, but i guess i would say that!

    Cheers for looking!

Superb painting. I really like your gold and the eyes. Keep up the good work

really nice stuiff. How did you paint the elven skin? It looks tight and properly shaded without being too many steps.

If I didn't know better, the silhouette of those Elf spearmen look alot like Dark Elves.

I think they're Sea Guard Brother Alexos. (although they are painted a dark color)

You've done a nice job painting.

I like the purple new stuff but I don't think I would feel right voting for you to respray. I like the older blue and white scheme too.

Maybe you could add in / swap some detailing to get the purple onto the old units and bring some blue into the new units to keep everything similar?

Or you could just say it's a union of two armies fighting together against a common foe?

Not trying to hijack the thread, but if you check my log, you can see the photo quality using the first method. I use 1xA4 as the sloping bottom, 2xA4 taped together as the 'roof', one lamp directly above and a fairly cheap digital camera. Make sure that if your camera has the capability to do so, use macro mode (preferably SUPER macro).

I like your style. That eagle has an intimidation factor to him. Caradryn looks like he has a goatee. Bearded elves, whats next?

Yeah quite happy with that eagle. Found a proper photo of a golden eagle and copied the colours. Happy with the result!

Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback so far!

Have been sitting here thinking the model always looks far better than the photo. Then a thought occured that the photo is 5 times bigger than the model! Probably explains why!
