    Re: Empire Knightly Orders

    Ok got with me WD304 and the info on The Knights of the Hammer that you were looking for;

Founded just over 200 years ago
Their chapter house was granted to the by Magnus the Pious.
They wield Warhammers (big surprise there.)
    Very pious nights.
Mentions that the nights shave their heads so maybe they go into battle without helms?
Also says they took heavy casualties in SoC of the 100 men they sent 80 died. May take years to recover.

Note: The information posted by Rathgar is correct, its not Order of the Hammer but Knights of the Hammer.

I had gone to the trouble of bringing the WD into work yesterday only to have my thunder stolen...

    Re: Empire Knightly Orders

I just counted through the list and realised that there are no fewer than 29 different orders listed! It would take quite a lot of time to paint up a unit for each of these units.

Which reminds me that there are not really any handy painting references listed in the current list, so I should probably do something for that. Problem being that for a lot of these orders there is not really much in the way of pictures available.

Anyway, for anyone looking for advice on painting Knights of Fiery heart, look out for 3rd edition Warhammer Armies supplement, pages 54-55 for a very nice drawing (basically white surcoat/cloth barding, with red hearts and black maltese crosses).

    Re: Empire Knightly Orders

Im thinking of using a small elite knightly order as troops for the Sigmarite Inquisition in my WFRP2 campaign. Kind of like the Grey knights in 40K, but not as developed/specialized. These will however be very indoctrinated in the Sigmar faith to protect their souls and minds while fighting against chaos (well, they are told that their souls are protected anyway). In this campaign the threat of chaos will not be so obvious as it seems in WFB. The authorities tries to 'keep the lid on' chaos so to speak.

From the list above, what knightly order will best serve this purpose? Im thinking of the Knights of the Hammer, as the name seems to fit (hey, Ordo Malleus anyone?), and they are very pious. I would like to use an order where I would have to change as little fluff as possible.

Do you think some other order would fit better? Fiery Hearts?

    Re: Empire Knightly Orders

Whilst not a Knightly Order there are a group of witch hunters mentioned in Ashes of Middenhiem that fit your bill I think. They're called the Ordo Fidelis, official they don’t exist, they're extremely zealous and sometimes a bit sadistic. Their mission statement: wipe out Chaos from the Empire.

From the stats that are given for a group of them they're hard to.

I would recommend checking out first the militant Sigmarite witch-hunter order from Mordheim - they are quite impressive as it is.

As far as I know, there is no single knightly order dedicated to witch-hunting, though Sigmarite orders could be expected to give assistance witch-hunters at times (though there might be some tensions, with knights considering witch-hunters as lowly rabble-rousers).

My best suggestion would be to add a secretive sub-order, dedicated to witch-hunting, to one of the existing knightly order - Knights of the Fiery Heart could be a good pick, since they are big, old and have already at least one secret sub-order (Order of Fist).

    Re: Empire Knightly Orders

    Good ideas!

Ill probably use the Order of the Fist 'suborder' to the Fiery Hearts. A secret suborder of a larger Simar knight order is exactly what im looking for. To bad about the name thou... Maybe I have to switch names or invent a new.

In my campaign there is a difference between witch hunters and 'with hunters'. What I mean is that there are witch hunters working directly under the Sigmarite Inquisition (which in turn answers directly to the Grand Theogonist), and then its the usual 'freelancing' witch hunters (some operating under some sort of licence, some just operating anyway).

The knights will of course only work with the former witch hunters on regular basis.

Unless I'm missing something about the, shouldn't the Order of the Jade Griffon, or the sons of Solland be in there ?

Fantastic List Greifbringer. I appreciate the time and effort that went into making it. Although I must ask, what about the Brettonian orders and for that matter what of Estalia, Tilea and the merchant princes surely there are knights in one form or another in those locations as well.

I cannot remember having heard of those before - can you refer to any sources about them?

As for Spooky's question, while there are plenty of knights on Bretonnia, they are not organised into any sort of formal orders, being much more individualistic in their style. In Tilea most heavy cavalry tends to belong to mercenary units of one sort of another. As for the knighthood of Estalia, unfortunately little has been written about the subject (except for a few mentions to Myrmidian templars).

    Re: Empire Knightly Orders

I am afraid I do not have access to either of those sources - anybody able to give some details? Jade Griffon sounds like one more Sigmarite templar order (we are almost starting to suffer from abundance of those).

Some news for a change: according to news on the Fantasy general discussion, US WD309 has featured an article about Empire knights. I am eagerly waiting for it to be published in the UK version.

    Re: Empire Knightly Orders

Today I got hold of the UK WD 310, which has a new article on the Empire knighty orders. I added to the list references to orders that the article describes.

Most interesting bits: there is a new order (of black bear) introduced, and there is some material on the Knights of Everlasting Light, who are an order of templars whose aim is to protect justice and fairness. Unfortunately their patron god is not mentioned, though the previous suggests that it might be Verena.

Sounds like an Alluminas order to me. Don't know if he's still canon though.

    Re: Empire Knightly Orders

I have to admit that the name of the order always made me think of Alluminas, but however this talk of justice and fairness does not sound that much like him (though there is not too much material out about Alluminas, which sort of complicates things).

Silly writers - considering that the main feature of a templar order is their allegiance to some specific deity, it would be a jolly good thing to mention that deity when writing about them. Now we instead find out about all the unluck that has befallen the order during the years.
