    Plastic space hulk terrain released.

    Found this on TGN today:

    http://www.creativegamescapes.dreamhosters.com/?p=49

Looks really neat, plastic sprues of interlocking tiles with low walls surrounding them. This is an instant buy for me, it's just plain perfect.

    Really big picture here: http://www.creativegamescapes.dreamh...lDetailFix.jpg

Really like the peg-and-hole system they've got for fitting the pieces together. Setting up a board will be like building a lego set.

    Awesome

How many would you need for a full SH set though?

Re: Plastic space hulk terrain released.

If this person's project is accurate with it's room and corridor counts: http://www.vitruvianzeke.com/Project...ojectHulk.html

Then it looks like 8 sets will be needed to play all of the space hulk missions, including all of the expansions. Not sure how many you'd need for just the regular 2009 boxed game, my copy is round my parents at the moment.

Looking at how they've designed the sprue, everything would get used, too... according to that project link you need 8 big rooms, 8 t-sections, and 8 crossroads pieces.

And there's also a bundle deal where you can buy 8 packs, getting one free. Costs as much as a realm of battle board, but considering that it's a 3d space hulk board, I'd be surprised if anyone else could have done this more cheaply (without spending dozens/ hundreds of hours on the project).

Just how big are those squares? Didn't see any sizes when I looked.

  7. #7

Re: Plastic space hulk terrain released.

Each square measures 44.45mm x 44.45mm and each board section is 12.7mm tall. The overall wall height is 31.75mm from the tabletop and the assembled wall height from the top of the board section is 19.05mm. When assembled, the board sections easily accommodate most 20mm, 25mm and 40mm size bases. A complete set weighs slightly more than 1.5 pounds.

With their "Battleship Bundle" you pay for 10 and get 12. That means 1 1/2 the tiles needed for the game.

I can see a regular-sized club buying two bundles so they have enough pieces for THREE SH sets.

I have two friends who are SH nuts, like me... Suddenly, 250 bucks (factoring shipping) doesn't sound too harsh on the pockets. If I can convince two of my brothers who also like the game from way back when, then it's a lot less and more likely we all spend our money there.

Because these pieces sure look great.
We make the games we want with the fluff we prefer and the models we own, as much as we please.

I just had to quote this!

Okay, I just checked online and, at a rough glance (don't take my word for it!), it looks like 6 of these sets should be enough for the missions in the 3rd edition book. With some fiddling.

The 11th mission looks a bit tricky due to requiring 7 crossroad pieces and a 4x3 room, but I think a little creativity should be able to overcome that... a lot of the crossroad pieces lead into dead ends so a t-junction with a 2 or 3-piece corridor placed next to it should do the trick for the 7th crossroads.. Same for the 4x3 room, 3x3 room with a 3-piece corridor placed at one end.

So, splitting the 12-pack with a friend might be a good way to go if you both want to have a useable set at a lower price (£100 instead of £150), with the option to combine sets when you want to play a really big game or some of the older expansion missions.

Definitely an 8-pack needed if you don't want any mucking about with the tiles, though.

Those look fantastic but I Just looked at the UK price and it's £172 for 8 packs which is just a bit too much unfortunately. This is definitely something that I would love to take to my LGC and play a couple of games of SH on as well as 40k boarding missions.

I don't think the pics do them justice. Just got an email from them when I enquired as to shipping to the UK, each set weighs in at 1.5 pounds! That's a sturdy set of corridors, no chance of warping...

Good find, ScarletSquig. Would make a very nice diorama basis as well. Maybe if Wayland want to flog them in the UK? Worked for Battlefoam's *ahem* popular space corridor game trays.

Re: Plastic space hulk terrain released.

These look quite funky, shame they haven't got some more pics up one their site as it would be nice to get a look at some more of the possibilities of the set. If I found myself with some spare cash it may be worth a purchase but more for the novelty factor, I actually really like the card floorplans of space hulk and kind of view these plastics as being different rather than better. Having said that I can't knock how versatile it is, as others have mentioned there are plenty of sytems it could be used for.

Out of curiosity, if you bought enough sets to re-create the space hulk missions (I hear the count is 8?) would you have enough doors? How many come with each set, anyone know?

Re: Plastic space hulk terrain released.

You'd need seven sets for the standard number of doors then (20). Alternatively, I'd probably use the normal 3rd ed doors as they will still fit on there, and they actually occupy a space rather than the edge of a square like those plastic doors slide into. Also, it'd mean I could get away with less sets.

I'd love to see a set of this painted up with atmospheric lighting effects and more colourful rooms. If I manage to get the cash together and hide it from the mrs long enough, I'll probably go to recreate the 3rd ed set in room painting.

Re: Plastic space hulk terrain released.

Thanks for the heads up, I couldn't resist ordering some.

Really sturdy, heavy duty pieces. These aren't going to be damaged by drops, in fact you could probably step on one, reglue the sides and repair the paint and be back in business. You could also definitely get away with snapping together, rather than gluing, some of the walls and special sections if you were trying to be more flexible with your layouts.

A few very minor critiques, which are actually obvious in the photos if you aren't blinded by your desire for 3D Space Hulk. They aren't quite as detailed as the GW moldings, but still nice and clean, and substantially thicker. There is no variety in the floor patterns, the rooms are one texture and all the corridors are another. I would have loved a few other designs sprinkled in. It does sound like they plan more packs in the future, so presumably there will be other floor pieces at some point. The 3x3 room attaches the walls on top of the floor, unlike every other piece in the set. I personally plan on adding some panels around the room base to change that.

It looks to me like the floor sections from the GW scenery are 50mm and these are 1.75", about 5mm smaller (the Hirst molds are 1.5", but extend the width by having gutters on the wall sections). These feel quite large and I understand why they didn't go bigger, but matching the GW floors would have been nice. I'll be doing some kit bashing to give the sections some more personality, like the 3rd Edition tiles. As mentioned elsewhere there is lots of space under the floors if you wanted to do lighting, add pitfalls or the like.

Shipping for a single set was murder, even in the States (I ordered the medium bundle, which was much more reasonable) so try to get some friends or your club to bulk order if you're interested. I'm a very occasional lurker here, but will check in here if anyone has some questions or wants a photo of anything. All in all, highly recommended if you're a Space Hulk fan with more spare cash than spare time.

    Hey ecurtz,

Robbage from the San Juans a bit north of you; nice to see you in the neighborhood. Noobie here myself, but excited but these Creative Gamescape tiles for SH 3e. I ordered the 8 bundle and one additional set.

You mentioned that the walls sit on top of the tiles on the rooms only; what's with that? Does it work okay or look a little wonky? I'm looking at playing SH Quest with this (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=276894) and wondering if I'll want to glue walls on the rooms or have to be more flexible with my options regarding entrances and doors.

Love to see some pics if you have them.

I have been looking for some decent walls.
We have a custom Space Hulk board which we picked up from www.miniaturebattleboards.com.
They supply some good wall options as well.

..any one got any cool Space Hulk house rules to add using other races i.e Eldar or other Tyranid options?
