Those pair look cracking Dan, the mixed palette gives them a nice ragged militia feel, whilst retaining a certain degree of military uniformity.

DAMN! No offence, but I didn't expect that level of painting skills, Dan!!
You've been holding out on us! >:P

Also, Saul, if you're 'whelmed' as you so elegantly put it, that means that you're fighting on an equal footing, and that both sides are at a deadlock, which means no immediate action is going on, which takes out the verb part of that adverb. You just have ad. No one likes popup ads.

Apparently it is also the past tense of 'to whelm' which means to bury, engulf or submerge. I'm totally using that in real life now!

*Ahem* sorry Dan, back on le topic...

Damn those are some nice looking models! My only question is, in a land where the dead walk would it be advisable for the militia to be wearing skull masks? It looks cool, but what happens when poor jumpy Hans looks behind him and mistakes Sven for a skeleton?

The only logical conclusion is that there is no jumpy Hans in Sylvania, or scared Sven, frightened Franz or even wet pants Wilhelm for that matter.
Everybody is tough as nails, at least that's what the painting is telling me.

This army already looks mighty awesome! Your conversions really add a lot of character to your units. Brilliant! Cannot wait to see it all painted up!

While that makes sense I request, nay, I demand that the army includes a 'Wet Pants' Wilhelm. That name is just perfect.

Thanks, Saul. I'm happy to hear my models whelm you.

Thanks! Yeah, I guess the image of the Terminator hunched over a little table painting 28mm figures doesn't exactly convey much in the way of artistic excellence. Glad you like them, though.

Thanks! To answer your question the "jumpy" soldiers died off a long time ago.

    Okay, quick update:

I only completed the bases on the first two as a test, the rest will get the full treatment once I finish the unit.

    Thoughts?

    Looking good, especially the faces.
Also nice to see that you included the hourglass in your heraldry.

These look great, I'm really digging the muted color scheme. I think if all the bases are done, you're gonna have a very atmospheric army.

well i have just spent the last hour and a bit reading the entire thread from start to finish and i think that this is by far one of the most indepth project logs i have viewed to date, fantastic conversions fantasic painting really truly 5/5.

Also as i have read and digested so much already not sure if someone already mentioned this but one of your knightly conversions was a bearded man with a skull mask raised to the peak of his helm, i dont know why but this reminds me of General Kael from Willow. (see attached image)

Anyhow keep up the amazing work

Wow. Some great conversions and painting there. Can't wait to see more.

Can you explain what colours you use to paint flesh? It is one area that I really struggle with and yours looks exactly how I would like mine to look.

    thanks

Sweet stuff you've got there, Dan! Never stop fighting those pesky undead.

All your minis are so full of charcater and sometimes your conversions are quite funny, they make me think about a classical zombie-film. But instead of shotguns and chainsaws you got crossbows and halberds. Awesome!

    And remember:

So keep up the great work!

Carlsberg dont do Grimdark Slyvanian Empire Armies..... But if they did they would Probably be the best.....

(Hope you had that particular Carlsberg advert over in America otherwise that makes no sense whatsoever! In fact do you even have Carlsberg Beer there?)

Anyway they look great in that paint scheme, its original and your not tied to the state colours like so many Empire forces. Painting style is top drawer it suits the theme so well, I particularly like the metal.

Looking forward to seeing all the fight scenes painted up.

    Great work! Praise the Lord!
