    Imperial Guard by alexh

After what seems like an eternity painting Orks, I'm coming back to The Imperium. I've had an idea to do a drop troop guard army since the plastic Valkyrie was released but never got round to it until now. Here are the first five members of a veteran squad

Close up of a trooper front and back

    And the squad sergeant

I'm using Cadian bodies with pig iron heavy infantry heads and pulse rifles and grav chutes from hasslefree. As ever C&C is most welcome.

hasslefree do some pretty good stuff, and pig iron are always good for heads, ace work so far, lets see some more.

Always wondered how those Helmets would look like on Cadians.
Definately going to get some myself now for my Adeptus Arbites squad

Looking good, any fancy plans for the Valk?

Thanks for the comments guys. @Bra'tac I have a Valk already built but I plan on getting more and I will be converting a few to Vendettas. @Deffgob I'm going with dark grey fatigues and sandy armour similar to the Harakoni Warhawks.

I've finally finished building the first veteran squad with 3 meltaguns

here's a close up of a couple of meltas

I also built a plasmacannon armed sentinel

I'll start getting some paint on these tomorrow and I'll hopefully get the command squad and second veteran squad built later in the week when I get more bodies. Also hopefully sometime in the week I'll be starting on a Mordian army as I have just bought enough for a CCS, 2 platoons and maybe some veterans.

Thanks Deffgob, one of the meltas is from the cadian command squad and the others are plastic space marine ones on grenade launcher arms.

Hasslefree and Pig iron Bitz... a really great asset in making great looking guard

IMHO air cav guard is a theme that, to be properly executed requieres skill and taste.
Keep it up, your making it great.

Great start! Are those guns going to count as lasguns? I think lasguns are an iconic Guardsman weapon, so perhaps these could be shotguns on your veterans? That would allow you to field both the Hasslefree guns and normal lasguns.

Hahaha Deffgob, no, I got those meltas from a friend who plays marines. The metal ones count as lasguns for the moment but I may change to shotguns though.

So, a rather large box arrived this morning. The Mordians are here!! Here's a WIP of a veteran sergeant

the following 2 pics are a little blurred but they show the colours better

As you can see, I'm going with the classic 211th Mordian. What do you think so far?

I got 3 officers, 9 sergeants, 60 lasgunners, 3 flamers, 4 grenade launchers, 1 autocannon, 1 lascannon, 3 mortars and 5 heavy bolters for 75 quid. I also found a couple of basilisks and 3 leman russes inc a FW vanquisher turret (knight commander pask ftw) hiding in a cupboard yesterday so I've got a nice new army pretty much ready made.

Great use of the pig iron upgrade packs! They look really veteran like. The wip veteran sergeant is coming along nicely too.

    Keep it up!

Work is continuing on the Mordian front with the addition of 6 more veterans

and a company command squad with vox operator, medic and standard

I've had that Commisar since it came out and thought it would fit perfectly as a senior officer since there is only one Mordian officer model and I didn't fancy doing any major conversion work. I also have two platoons each with two basic squads ready for basing and priming, a FW Stygies VIII Vanquisher to rebuild and I found this - http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/ca...dId=prod40011a (the one on the left) in my bits box, to use as Knight Commander Pask.
