    WIP XV32 stealth suit

Right, yesterday was my birthday, so the powers that be have let me open my big box o' Tau, and here is the results of my converting of the new stealth suits:

what do you reckon? I'm quite pleased myself, they look like what I'd hoped for, updated versions of the XV15s.

I'm leaving off the right shoulder pad, as I quite like the look of just the one, and it becomes like a running theme through the army, with the firewarriors, and some conversions I have planned for my other battlesuits.

I like it - much better than the 'Tau Terminator' look

LOOKING GOOD - but i don't see how the new ones can be stealth suits , you woud imagine spotting the bulk lurking around

Now you know you have to post more pictures of different angles as well as a tutorial. :P

A tutorial may or may not be forthcoming, depending on whether I can be bothered..

It wasn't hard to do really, a lot of its was just trial and error, seeing what looked right and what didn't.

    Glad you like it!

I've only got one criticism, and that's the size of the burst cannon relative to the slimmed-down suit. The gun is frikkin' enormous - I know Tau are all about weedy guys with big guns but this pushes it a bit too far for my liking.

Take a bit of length out of the burst cannon, and it'll be perfect. Here, let me explain via the medium of Paint Shop Pro....

    They're invisible...

That, Tudor, is fantastic. I agree with trimming the BC though, it'd make it look a bit more... 'balanced' per se. The 25 has got a lot of bulk to make up for it, your 32 hasn't, hance the shorter gun.

Personally I like the size of the gun, but each to their own.

Looking good, but isn't the name off? The first digit is the mass index, and these are considerably less bulky than XV25s. So they should be between XV16-XV19.

Or did I get the naming conventions wrong?

    Re: WIP XV32 stealth suit

That looks good enough to become the standard. If you posted how to do it I am sure every Tau player would give it a try.

I don't know about naming conventions, but you certainly failed Tau numerology, they can only go to XV17.......unless the codes are Imperial designations.......

Nice work Tudor, I'm personally a fan of the old suits over the new, but your version beats both.

    Re: WIP XV32 stealth suit

The naming is probably a bit off.. the first digit is indeed the mass index, and the second one represents the fact it is in testing.. it depends whether these are supposed to be in testing.. I suppose XV23 or something might be better.

I will do a tutorial when I make the next one. Randallw, good enough to be standard ay, I'm flattered!

    Re: WIP XV32 stealth suit

Yea, the first number represents how big it is, and the only certainty givin about the second number is that a "2" means it's in the testing phase. Since the varying stealth suits have "5's" as the second, I'd assume a suit is abttle tested by the time it's given that number.

Any how, enough back ground banter. I really like the direction the conversion is going in. Maybe get a shoulder pad on both shoulders though

Now that is what I really wanted to hear. On a related note how easy was the front plate to remove and is it still intact?

Well now i know what i will do with my suits when i get them. The new ones are just too static me thinks. With your conversion it will be simplere to get som fluid poses.

Looking forward to a conversion tutorial

    Thx

    Re: WIP XV32 stealth suit

Removing the front plate is fairly easy. I was using a pretty 'big' saw (as in, the depth of the blade), so I had to clip away some of the top 'end' of it, but after that it was just a matter of sawing down to the corner, as it were, then using a scalpel to sort of ply off the rest of it. I'm using the front plates on another conversion I had planned, so I wanted to save them.

Of course, if you're not planning on using them, you could always just clip them off.

Eisenhorn, one thing I've noticed is that the 'default' arm poses don't really suit the smaller body, odd though that might sound. I highly recommend cutting and repositioning the arms if you do this - the 'default' poses look very clumsy and odd.

The reason I ask is that I plan to use them for my commander and his bodyguards so its good to hear they can be removed without ripping them to shreds

looks cool, but the gun does seem a bit out of proportion to the rest though
