WIP Grey Hunter Pack
The weekend saw the development of another 4 Grey Hunters, including a special weapon and the bearer of the wolf standard. These are still very WIP, but you get the idea.
WIP - Wolf Claw (left hand)
I also managed to make some more progress the left handed wolf claw, a little more work on the green stuff, most neatening up and i added the upper arm, taken from the space wolves terminator sprue.
I have updated the 'work station' photo in the first post too. Thanks for looking.
Progress on the Grey Hunters is a little slow at the moment, still need to find a couple more parts to finish the first 10, then i'll get them undercoated and the painting can begin. Until then, here is a few very WIP shots of my latest project.

Stormraven Gunship WIP
As you can see i have swapped the turret with the Forge World Razorback turret and nose mounted the assault cannons.
I really like the aesthetic of the Hurricane Bolters, and as the SR is only available to the Wolves of Russ as an apocalypse unit i don't mind paying the extra thirty points.
Gave the interior some basic details, then washed it back with Badab Black, need to do a little high lighting but as very little will be able to be seen once the pilot is in place and the canopy glued down, i'm not too bothered.

Grey Hunter update coming soon, thanks for looking![]()
Great log, motivated me to re-start my wolves, and now to save up for a stormraven...

That turret makes the Stormraven look ten times betterVery crisp greys too, I love it.
Those who know don't care any more, and those who care don't know.
lotsa good inspiration here, I will keep an eye on this thread, cudos!
thank you for the kind words folks, the comments are encouraging, a real motivator!

Thanks for looking![]()
The Stormraven looks great in the Wolves' colours, very nicely done! Good choice of head on the pilot, I think it really fits the model well.
Thanks fella, i really couldn't resist get one... or two.

Stormraven Gunship WIP
Got the base weathering done on the stormraven over the last few evenings, next up will be sponging on some more weathering, scorch marks, application of weather powder and a few finishing touches. here's how it looks at the moment, still WIP.
Bjorn Stormwolf's personal icon on the side denotes the Great Company i have gone for.
The wing decals are from Forge World and look amazing, really suit the scale of the Stormraven.
I liked the idea that the pilot was considered to be a longfang, aged and equiped with heavy weapons, albiet in the form of a gunship, hense the red skull on the underside.
more photos to follow...
WIP Stormraven Gunship
The symbol of Leman Russ is on either side of the dorsal air intake.
i really wanted to incldue this icon, a gesture or homage to the days when space wolves had this on the lower leg armour as an army badge, viva la 2nd edition!
very very cool! looks great!
This is looking really nice Pete. Really nice. Makes me want to finish my yellow monstrosity.
Sorry it took so long to send the recipe for the leather, had a busy week.
Looks very nice. You've made me want to get a stormraven for my wolves now! Would you mind telling me what grey you used?
Keep it up
Amazing! a truely unique army. Love the paint scheme on the stormraven. I think that the old school space wolves grey aswell as the use of all the different armour patterns is really gonna add a preheresy flavour to the army.

thanks for all the kind words chaps, i really appreciate that you took the time to leave a comment.
@Fenriz - no worries fella, it was very useful actually, i have adapted it a bit for my wolves as i wanted a lighter leather tone, but applied your principles. thanks again.
@Master Commander Ajax - thanks fella, thats the intention, i want them to have a pre-heresy feel without actually being of that era.

WIP Dreadnought
Picked the Space Wolf Venerable Dreadnought up at the Forge World open day on Sunday, really cracking day and had some great discussions with a few of the sculpters/staff.
Here is the WIP base for the dreadnought, the razor/barbed wire is from GW.
i'm not a huge fan of the banners on dreadnoughts, with only a couple of exceptions, thus i decided to put the banner to better use on my Grey Hunters.

WIP Grey Hunter Pack
Ok got the last 4 assembled and based, little icons and details added and some of the green stuff work done, so here they are so far.
Only need to source a couple of parts now to finish the squad, then i will do some work on Wolf Guard of differing varieties...
Thanks for looking.
Normally I don't like Space Wolves but I like the direction you are taking them. Clear who they are without being covered in pelts. Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought of using the FW Razorback turret for the Stormraven, and it looks like it fits very well.

Grey Hunter 001
Brother Galeg, of Ronth's Grey Hunter Pack, under Bjorn Stormwolf, Jarl of Sepp.
Brother Galeg of Rotheth's Grey Hunter Pack, Under Bjorn Stormwolf, Wolf Lord of the Seventh Great Company
Brother Galeg has a stern disposition, but this has tempered with time and experience marking his progression and excellence as a warrior of the Vlka Fenryka. Often thought of as sullen by his wolf-brothers Galeg is often the objective of friendly jest amongst his kin.
None the less Galeg has proven his worth having 53 missions to his saga, a good number for any son of Russ.

So i finally managed to get some painting done, used this Marine as a bit of a test model for a few things, such as the leather technique and the fur tones, which i'm pretty happy with. Having gone for the 'pre-heresy' style greys i wanted to steer clear of grey pelts, using warmer and more authentic wolf colours, a lot of time with my head in natural world books and google images helped immencely.
With the basing i wanted a winter style base that wouldn't conflict too much with my existing game board, which is largely browns and grasses, thus the partial scattering of snow works well. I like the idea they are fighting on a tundra style war zone, bleak and un-forgiving, but not necessarily hostile.
Thanks for looking![]()
Thats looking really nice old chap. My only addition would be to wash back those highlights slightly, they are perhaps a little extreme. But very nice!
I like it, as for the highlights I would take a good look at them in real life first before changing anything. Pictures sometimes bring things out way more than them seem in person.
