I heard somewhere that they will use the same size base as terminators in 40k.

I don't think it will end up as the 40mm round (termie).
With GW loving big bases I'm sure it will be the 60, if not it's own unique base.

Yup, there are people who use The Chase models and others that convert 1 massive squig and others that make coldone/squig hybrids.
To be honest though you might want to go with 40mm round because then no matter what size they go with you could just glue your base to the right sized one (unless it was 40mm) and not have to worry about ripping it off.
For my part I'm just not going to use it until they at least tell us the base size.

Apologies if it's been asked before but it's not massively easy to trawl through 50ish pages but Orc boyz with spears and shields, points sink or viable defensive force?
God of Battles on Facebook
Fantasy Battle Games played since 2010 log
WoC 21, Orcs 17, Beastmen 11, Ogres 9, Tomb Kings 9, Demons 3, High Elves 1, Brettonians 1, VC 1 71
Other games
Gods of Battle 8, Malifaux 7, Saga 5, 40K 4, Dreadball 2 26
0-4 in 40K, baby.
I wouldn't call it a point sink. Sure there are better options but then again it's not that far off the mark.
Savages with a shield would be 1 point more and would have the same number of attacks even when they charge, however their would have less attacks if they ever lost combat. The 5+ vs 6+/6++ save is about the same (depends what you face).
Of course if you want pure defense then night goblins are much better (you almost get 3 for every 1 of those spear/shield orcs) but at least the spears would hit harder.
So if you got them and want to use them go for it. It's not like your are filling your list with snotlings![]()

Hey Malorian I wanted to ask you if you have had much luck using Savage Orcs and if so are they more of a support unit for you? Just curious as I am weighing the pros and cons of running an Arachnarok vs. more troops.
Here is a quick pic of my mangler

isanti13 which squig model is this and how big is your base? Malorian had a good idea about using "The Chase" squig which I thought of myself some time back but they come with 25mm round bases and putting these on larger bases, at least to me, would make them look way to small! I'm excited because I love modeling and conversions and would L-O-V-E to make my own! I wrote GW and they said they don't answer e-mails anymore and so I'll be calling tomorrow and post whatever I find out here.
It's a custom model someone made a few years back. It's on a 60mm round base.
Here's a pic of my 2 manglers.
http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/o...x/manglers.jpg
Both are on 60mm bases. I only had 2 of the cow cold ones, so one mangler is made of those. The cow cold one sets are going for like $50 on ebay, so I just used the newer saurus cold ones to make the 2nd mangler.
They are smaller than the real great cave squig that GW has out, so I can't imagine how GW would ever get 2 great cave squigs + night goblin 'crew/handers' onto a 40mm or even 50mm base.
I've heared some say that:
- when a mangler ends movement in a unit and is thrown out at the other side after inflicting wounds,
- If there is another unit directly behind it say 1", so your mangler doesn't fit it hits that unit as well, etc. untill it can be placed?
Has anyone seen any ruling on this?
i think it would work like that. or you could bounce it a different way. depends on the angle. if the mangler had say an 18" move and could have moves over both in a line, then yeah, but if it couldn't no. consider the bounce add extra movement until your safe.

First Shimmergloom those are great looking although because I have yet to buy the new O&G book I didn't realize that the model would also need a crew. Great idea using Cold Ones!!!
Second, Malorian I take it since NG 's do a better job at defending you probably don't use normal Orc Boyz anymore huh? Call me stubborn or at the very least not rich I have a hard time replacing my Boyz for savages. Currently I'm finish painting them and plan on running them as Big Uns in 40-50 model units. Do you give your savages the Big Uns upgrade?
Damn straight those savages are big uns
And I have 100+ shield orcs that have seen maybe one battle in 8th... and that was just for a theme...

Ya Malorian I figured as much and technically ya your right they are better no doubt about it! I guess for me it's just to hard a pill to swallow to have to shelve my normal orcs because 8th edition tells me so! Ha! So for the time being I'll run my themed army and win less games, perhaps, but I don't have savages due to finances is all! Thanks Malorian for all your help bud!
Oh and by the way for anyone that cares I did call GW today and they told me the following things:
1. No idea when GW will release a Mangler mini.
2. Make the base size 40mm for the time being.
3. Manglers come in pairs with a handler (I don't own the book so couldn't argue against this!)
So thing is if I am to use a 40mm base how the heck am I gonna fit all that on my base? The Mangler is supposed to be big right? So unless someone here tells me that there are more than one Mangler per base and a handler I personally would rather build one Mangler per base and make them big!
