    Slow Night Lords project...

    Hi all,

Since reading Lord of the Night, I have been inspired to create a Night Lords Combat Patrol with the option of maybe increasing it to a 1000pt force.

These are the guys I have done so far. I have a CC squad and a ranged squad built, and a simple Sorceror conversion done, but these are the painted ones. I still have bits and pieces to do on each of them.

The guy with the skull helmet has a small skull on his chestplate. That is the result of my first casting attempt. It is a Khorne Berzerker body, and when i shaved off the Khorne symbol, that round bit looked rather dull, so I cast up a small skull and added it. I think it looks great.

Very nice. They looks terrific. I too have read Lord of the Night recently and it nearly made me start a Night Lords army(I settled for Alpha Legion instead(eventually))

I personally don't think the purple on the weapons and helmets work.

I will be highlighting the purple with Blood Red. It looks different, but it's effective.

Looks great. I like the highlighting, it makes for a unique brand of Night Lords. Can't wait to see the finished product.

It's a good idea using old backpacks and the skull you cast is really great. I said to myself "what casting is this guy talking about?" 'cause I didn't even see it wasn't original.

On the painting front, you should really do thinner highlights, and make the weapons a bit more... interesting. The base color scheme fits well, but add a little rubble on some of your future bases to make them more interesting, too.

I like the blues and am looking forward to seeing how the purple will look with the highlights. Right now it distracts.

    Re: Slow Night Lords project...

I originally went with purple because I can never get a good dark red. Scab Red and Red Gore always take about 8 coats to look solid. I have gone back, though, and redone the weapons in Scab Red, with Blood Red highlights. It looks a bit more cohesive now.

    Pics soon.

I like that you have used the "horror" masks that the Night Lords use, the paint job looks good but the highlighting is a bit too strong for my taste....
If you have a problem getting the red to cover use a base of scorched brown and then do scab red etc...

    Re: Slow Night Lords project...

In order to get a good solid red, a base of brown is recommended, as you need less coats to get the red built.

Looking good models, can we have a pic of them all?

    Coming up very soon

As for a pic of all of them, these are the only ones I have painted - I'm a slow painter The highlights look pretty strong in those pics, but from arms length or more, they are quite striking.

*note to self: brown before red*

    Cheers guys!

    Re: Slow Night Lords project...

Okay, some pics with red weapons instead of purple:

I know they still need some cleaning up (most noticeably on the chainsword) but I'm still trialling colours a bit.

    Thoughts?

I agree that the red looks better, and all the more "striking".

I myself was considering using red for my new Raptor's chainswords.I think this cements it.

    Re: Slow Night Lords project...

I for one liked the purple bolters. They stood out from every other red bolter out there. It fits the theme well, anyways they are your minis so.... Oh yeah, I almost forgot, very cool work dude!. You know?I really like your conversions. Just a suggestion, why dont you put a pair of wings in the chainaxe dude? it could look great and very "Nightlordrish".

    Keep up the good work!

I think the red looks a little too khornish... O well as stated above they are your minis....
