    Pointyteeth's Fantasy Mish-mash

Hello all. Pointyteeth here. I've recently started playing Warmachine and have moved into a larger house which means I can finally have my own gaming table so I decided that instead of starting a third thread I'd merge my Warriors log with my Wood Elf log into one big log with my soon to be coming Cryx force and scenery. Rather than start out with pics that I've posted already, I'll start with a couple new pics.

This is what I currently have on my desk to paint

    2 Ripjaw Bonejacks
    Seether Helljack
Plastic Helljack that I'll be magnetizing to be a Reaper, Corruptor, or Slayer.
    Iron Lich Asphyxious
    Machine Wraith
    Warhammer Watch Tower

Not shown but also on my desk:
10 Glade Guard needing leg extension conversions
8 Dryads needing "dynamic pose" conversion

And here is the basing I'll be doing for my Cryx force. I love how it turned out! Found this amazing tutorial by Jolly Angus at ExiledSantaBarbarian.

Great bases - this is what I love about fantasy project logs, inspiring stuff even if I'm not playing the system being used. Can't wait to see the rest!

    Re: Pointyteeth's Fantasy Mish-mash

Thanks for the comments guys. A quick update before bed. Got a bit of work done on one of the Ripjaws. I've decided to go with a grey/blue colour for armour plates, and the metal will be weathered iron (once I get started on it). This is the first time I've tried blending and I think it turned out pretty nice, especially on the "shoulder" plates. Hopefully this wasn't first time luck and I'll be able to replicate it on the next one.

Wow that is a great base, it looks wonderful. I would have messed up the tiles a bit with damage and chips ( for war ya'know) but its still brilliant pristine.

    Cheers

That basing is awesome! Thank you for sharing the technique with us, I must try that! Looks like it could drive you insane for a horde army heh heh.

The blending on the Ripjaw has come off really well - your photography skills help alot. Will be interesting to see the weathering in comparison.

    Keep up the good work

    Re: Pointyteeth's Fantasy Mish-mash

Thanks for the comments all. Today I have a bit of "virtual" conversion work on my Wood Elves. I want to have a more "fey" wood elf army, and want this especially reflected in my eternal guard unit. Unfortunately, I find myself without the pieces to try out this conversion, and before I put any money into it I wanted to put the pieces together to see roughly how it would look. The basic idea is Ungor legs with a White Lion torso. I'm uncertain what head to use. The scale of the pieces might be a bit off but here's a few examples:
    w/ Phoenix Guard Head

    w/ Silver Helm Head

These two options are to give a bit of nobility to a beastly frame

w/ Glade Guard Head (to tie in better with the rest of the force)

The options below are using Werewolf Heads from MaxMini. These heads give a more savage, nature spirit kind of feel to the model. (I'm completely unsure of the scale of these heads, and am waiting to hear back from the company for proper measurements to see if they even fit).

I'm unsure of arms yet, but they will likely be armed with double headed spears that will look like they've been grown instead of manufactured.

Any comments? Do any heads look great or scream horrible? I'd love any input.

    Re: Pointyteeth's Fantasy Mish-mash

    Werewolf heads if possible definately...

Otherwise for really cool narnian looking satyr heads, try a combination of Chaos Marauder (on foot) heads and Gor horns. There was a narnian wood elf army once that used this technique.

Not too sure about the white lion bodies though. Seems un-woodelfy to kill another living creature to use it's pelt as clothing. I would rather mix Ungor legs with High Elf warrior (the blank armoured) bodies or DE corsair bodies painted up to look like leather.

Kroot bodies might work as well?

    thanks

@ mrtn - damn, I was worried someone would say that. Maybe I'll jump on eBay tonight and see what I can find.

@ Kyte - I thought the same thing about the white lion bodies originally, but I changed my mind as I'd rather get away from the wood elves being "hippies" to more of a part of nature (and since they don't grow their own fur, might as well wear something else's ). Hmm, never thought about marauder heads. It could be an idea, but I'd prefer to try something original first.

I like the concept. the proportions of the photo shop are out, but i can't even spell fotoe shop so I can't say anything! i would like to see a daemonette head with the horns and hair, something human but no quite human!

    Re: Pointyteeth's Fantasy Mish-mash

Out of these choices I'd say either the Glade Guard head or Werewolf head 1 (these are intended for 28/30 mm heroic scaled minis, but with humans, I think Marauders actually, in mind, so they might be a tad big on woodies).

    Re: Pointyteeth's Fantasy Mish-mash

Thanks for the comments guys. I won some white lion torsos on eBay, so should have something to work with in a couple weeks (gotta love bits stores). I'd like to have more pics to put up, but unfortunately I still don't have a desk to paint at and its hard to get into a good painting session when I'm bending sideways over the arm of the couch to paint on top of my storage drawers

@ Goblinchewer - I know, I know, I had to guess in photoshop cause I've never seen the white lions in person. I suppose I can try a daemonette head when the bodies get here, I've got a few kicking around still from my harpy conversions.

@ Gargobot - Thanks for the tip. I'm leaning between glade guard and werewolves myself, but if they aren't the right scale I guess I may have to let the idea go Might be for the best though as the heads are about 6 euros for 6 (which is about $10 Canadian last time I checked). A bit expensive when I'm looking at a unit of at least 40.

@ mdiscala - I thought about that, and in the past I probably would have done that but lately I really like having my units look more "unified". Helps out in tournament presentation scores

This is a cool idea and I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Personally, I have a soft spot for that Phoenix Guard head and the werewolf ones too.

I have a question about your basing - where does one get window screening like that? A hardware store or something? I am sorely tempted to try it out.

Looking forward to more painted stuff *cough hint cough*

Thanks Jihad. I picked up the window screening at a hardware store, shouldn't be too hard to find. I'm working on painting...really! I've started in on a Scrap Thrall for my Cryx force but unfortunately made the mistake of picking up Mass Effect 2 for my ps3 and have been, shall we say, blissfully distracted. I'll aim to get some more work in tonight though, so hopefully there's something on TV that the girlfriend wants to watch so I'm not tempted.

Well, I managed to get a short painting session in. Nothing completed but made some progress on the scrap thrall. Skin and bones finished, and simple basecoat on the metal.

I have to say, its really hard to paint evil models when your kid is in the same room watching a disgustingly cheerful, bubble-gum remake of Snow White.
