Craftworld Lileathya & the Kabal of Transcendent Dominion

    Hello,
I've just returned to the hobby after a long hiatus, decided to start a plog to encourage me to improve my painting skills, and hopefully gain some tips to do so. That, and the humiliation of showing my current standard should be sufficient incentive.

Disclaimer: If great paintjobs are what you want to see, proceed no further. Thanks to chronic illness induced poor eyesight, I really struggle to paint well.

Craftworld Lileathya (Children of Lileath, I hope).

    Currently consists of:
    Farseer Lillais Callipygia
    Farseer Arlgrai
    Twenty Dire Avengers
    Ten Howling Banshees
    One Wave Serpent
    One Fire Prism.

    Farseer Lillais Callipygia:
The leader of Craftworld Lileathya. Rather pleased with the paint job, possibly my best work yet which I realise is not saying much. Annoyed the face has some issues in the photo.

    Howling Banshees:
I love Howling Banshees, I painted these quite some time ago, I think I've improved since then. Some of them topped over on the way to their photoshoot, hence the odd bit of bare metal.

    Dire Avengers:

    Howling Banshee Wave Serpent:

I adore Eldar vehicles and I think I painted this one quite well by my standards, really pleased with it. I can actually see all the large panels to paint them.

Re: Craftworld Lileathya & the Kabal of Transcendent Dominion.

Presenting the Kabal of Transcendent Dominion:

    Archon Drusillaith:

It took me around twelve attempts to paint the eyes a nice, glowy white it barely shows in the photo.

    Incubi:

    Kabalite Warriors:

I lack the brush control to line the armour plates well, I'm switching to an easier method starting with a bright basecoat (Scorpion Green) and darkening it with several washes.

    Wyches:

I love these models. The Cult of Ecstatic Necrosis is effectively a subsidiary of the main Kabal rather than a completely seperate entity. I might post some background to the army at some point.

    Reaver Jetbikes:

The first Dark Eldar I painted, not particularly happy with the results.

    Raider:

Not happy with the line highlights, think I'll go for a more traditional drybrush highlight in future.

This is all my Dark Eldar at the moment, though I have a battleforce, venom, scourges, Razorwing and Ravager on order. I shall miss you, Wayland Games.

Three months between first and second post, might be some kind of record.

I realise it isn't a Xenos, but I painted up a Sisters of Battle Canoness too:

Always liked SoB back when they first came out, hoping to start an army when they get a new book.

Stop denigrating your painting skills. You do crisp, clean work. Well done.

These look great. The Farseer and Archon have a real personal touch to them and the armour on the DE looks good. I definitely think that the models would be improved a lot with more detailed bases however.

Thank you, much appreciated. I guess I'm used to comparing my paintwork to people I know who all seem to be freakishly good.

Thank you. I do have some issues with basing, at a friends suggestion I was going with a snow look for the Eldar but being white themselves it didn't look so good. Now I can't make up my mind whether to give the DE the snow look and Eldar a darker grey slatey theme or both dark grey etc.

I really like how your Eldar and Dark Eldar have similar colours. It would really be funny to see them fight each oter and repeatedly confuse allies with foes ^^

And the Paintjob really isnt that bad

I'll Echo what Sildani has said. You should be proud of your work, it's clean and crisp and looks good! I really like your Farseer and Wave Serpent, the white and red paint scheme goes well with Eldar models.

Especially that you say you have trouble painting, I think you have done a great job and I would like to see more.

Good Luck! Don't be so hard on yourself .
Tzeentch don't do close combat units, but if they did, they'd be the best close combat units in the world.

your painting is very good, and there's no need to be down on yourself. a quibble that i do have though, is that it might be just the photo, but it looks like the red isn't as even as it could be in spots and the undercoat is showing through.

Thanks. The background of the Craftworld and the Kabal (and a friends Craftworld) are actually related. Same noble Eldar family, two Craftworlds, one Kabal. Similar colours to tie it together subtly.

Thank you, I have to admit I love how the Wave Serpent came out. Really enthused about painting my Fire Prism now.

Thank you. I think its the photo, in some areas the mechrite red basecoat is a bit more visible (my attempt at shading) but certainly not the undercoat.

On the work bench at the moment:
Succubus, lovely model really enjoying painting it. I think my brush control has improved, I've been slopping much less paint over some of the finer details than I ordinarily would.
Fire Prism, slowly assembling it, looking forward to painting it.
Ten more Dire Avengers, bodies mostly done just need to finish the details then move onto the arms and heads.

You see, I told you your painting wasn't as bad as you thought.

Hey man, nice work. i really like the green and red colour scheme you have going on with the Dark eldar. I'm thinking of doing something not too dissimilar with my Dark Eldar.

I also like the white on your craftworld Eldar, all in all good job!

Re: Craftworld Lileathya & the Kabal of Transcendent Dominion

Just finished painting the Succubus of the Cult of Ecstatic Necrosis, Phrynei:

Really happy with how she turned out, the only spot I wish I could have done bette is her bare stomach. But after several attempts this was the best. Very happy with her face, hair and fur cloak.

This is my first attempt of my new armour painting technique. excluding the test torso and Archon (because her old highlights still show through a bit). Two thin coats of Scorpion Green, two washes of Thraka Green and a drybrush of Scorpion Green. Much faster than the line highlights and I think I prefer the results. What do you think?

As far as painting skills you do quite well. I would just question your choice of color selection. Red, green and white looks a little bit like Christmas elves in space. The dark eldar look money though.

Christmas elves in space, splendid. All the more reason to change the bases from snow to something else.

Slowly working through ten more Dire Avengers then on to Lelith. Going to try priming white and shading it with a wash then re-whiting it rather than building it up from grey. Spending five times as long on a Dire Avenger than a DE Warrior is starting to annoy me.

Also just received a reasonable sized order of Empire kits (batallion, cannon, general, wizards, captain blister) so there will be a fantasy plog coming at some point.

Looking great. Everything here looks really good. How are you painting the blonde hair? It's very nice.

Thank you. The blonde hair is easy, basecoat Iyanden Darksun, wash with Gryphonne Sepia then highlight (drybrush) with bleached bone.

Half the Dire Avengers done, need another coat of red on the Exarchs helmet though, and I forgot to paint the metal on their guns:

And the Fire Prism is finally done, after battling illness, a new addiction to Mass Effect (thanks, Eldargal) and Razorwings and Cockatrices arriving:

Quite a few little touch ups needed, disturbing how you (well, I) can miss them until I see a close up photograph.

Five Dire Avengers to go and I have my first 750pts of Eldar painted.
