If you can get a finger between the objects its fine in my book; although it does beg the question of where you measure from... the unit bases or the movement base.

Which is why I do the one finger rule - that plus movement bases ~ 1"... I'm not eaxctly going to halt a game to exactly measure it!

As for movement the units are not going to all wheel and turn in absolute unison... there is going to be some leway which is why I measire *after* movement unless its completly obvious it is not possible.

I think it is a silly rule concerning friendly units and don't play the 1" rule concerning them. 1" rule with enemy units is always played. And if at a tourney/ or somebody new I would just ask my opponent how he would like to play it. Doesn't change my play style in the least......

Entirely sensible, since the measurement of 1" is based on the width of a thumb originally. Almost any other language than English has that unit of length called something exactly the same or derived from "thumb" anyway...

BRB says measure from the base of the model not movement tray
"just make the Base size reasonable" go go 100mm by 100mm!

    "they cannot stop the signal-!"

My group adheres to the one inch rule but we're not rabid about it. The only time we will make mention of it is if it's VERY obvious that the space is less than an inch.

I always stick to it because it does affect gameplay. In 7th, whenever I fought Lizardmen, my opponent would keep his saurus and steggie together, which meant if I was charging one of them I automatically had to charge both. Now even I I beat him, he had a stubborn unit stopping my pursuit. The 1" rule in 8th makes this tactic much more difficult and much less cheesy too.

I personally run it like Lord Inquisitor. Good thing I happen to run one of the tournaments he frequents :P

I've noticed plenty of my opponents don't seem to even know the rule exists, so I remind them in a friendly manner. Generally during deployment you can see if they are aware of it. During play I go with the "make it look like an inch" but I only actually have someone measure (or measure myself) if it's 2 opposing forces next to each other. Two friendly units that look roughly an inch is good enough, it meets the spirit of the rule. As far as Impassible Terrain, I myself didn't realize that one. I better go re-read the book again :P. I'm included to take it as Lord Inquisitor again, somewhat ignoring that aspect. If an opponent has a problem with it, no problem I'll take the mess it creates in my lines by not being able to do it. I won't fault them for fitting through a 6.5" gap with a 5" unit. It just creates a lot more mess otherwise. I also don't see why that matters for impassible terrain. I try to go strictly by the rules, especially seeing as I run tournaments, but there are some things that just seem pointless and have no actual reason for existing (the terrain itself blocks, why extend a bubble around it?).

I completely understand the 1" bubble around friendlies/enemies and agree with it, and enforce it (just not strictly, but if you obviously aren't attempting it I'll call it out).

Say there are 2" of space between units A and B. Fanatic goes through B and bounces 1" past, but this takes him too close to unit A. The only option I can see is to keep going through unit A. Better spread out if you're facing O&G!
Actually I think that's true, they keep bouncing through (which isn't good for me). When playing against Goblins, make sure you are prepared to not have them bounce through your entire line in 1 go. It's easy enough to prevent. That does seem to be the correct way of it though.

A finger between two units which are on movement trays is about 1" from the base to the base
