There's always great scope for excellent conversions within Chaos Marine armies and these are no different. I love the spears and the unifying use of the converted Nurgle helmet. Having just been through your Blood Ravens log I'm looking forward to seeing these guys with some paint on them.

The chain-axe/glaive/WMD is absolutely superb. Def like what you did with the termie torso plate too, nice conversion. I really want to see this guy complete.

    Thanks!
The Terminator Lord is on the way, just awaiting some bitz, but after reading back thru the blog and finding this conversation:

    (AtmanAbecedarian said)
Bone white would be a good color. Blue gives you a lot of options that it won't clash with. What about a metallic? The image of a deep blue with a dull metallic grey seems fitting to me. Just a thought.
    (To which Lamby answered)
I had thought of a dirty metallic but with the new Grey Knights out there's just too many metallic mini's getting around imho!

After many attempts at white (too long to make look nice) and bone (just ick!) and a mixture of the two (baby poo brown being the result!) in the end I've come back to metallics haha!!!

Also, must thank sgtspliff for suggesting the cheramic Necron schemes!

Pics tomorrow of 2 test minis, one in metal and blue (World Eater splinter group) and one in metal and green and bronze (more home-made Legion of Thorns scheme)... and then I'll be asking for help to choose!

    Re: Legion of Thorns

Glad to hear my previous input was helpful
Both of your test schemes sound fun, and I'm looking forward to seeing the test minis. Almost think your green and bronze plan is cooler than blue/metallic. Going to have to wait and see though!
    As always, waiting for moar.

    AtmanAbecedarian, twistedmarine - thanks!

    Paint scheme tests:

First, the blue metallic scheme (intended to be a World Eaters successor):

and then, the green metallic and bronze scheme:

(Ignore the eyes - I forgot to finish them before taking the pics)

    Comments?
    Suggestions?

    Re: Legion of Thorns

I think the second one has a more chaosy feel to it. And that axe is just awesome. What bitz did you use for it? That what make a very impressive bloodfeeder.

    Re: Legion of Thorns

twistedmarine - Thanks for the comments!

    The big Mournblade axe uses:
Terminator Lord Sorcerer staff lower end
Ork double-blade chain weapon (cut in half and placed end to end)
Hand and power cable from a Terminator Thunder Hammer arm
and the metal bit is part of an axe from the metal Chaos Chosen

    Enjoy!

So, the Green + Bronze test scheme with black weapon:

Probably need to make the green tinge in the armour less subtle I think - any suggestions, Warseer?

I think the green is fine, looks like a nurgely ooze is coming out of the joints

If the tinge is a wash or a glaze, just reapply it, until its sufficient.

Really like the look of both, but I do think the second one is much more interesting. It was not at all what I was expecting, and it would look great on your minis. Black weapons for sure.

Thraka Green wash - a little more required I think

    Bronze - tick!
    Black Weapons - tick!
More green tinge in the silver - tick!

So, perhaps Hawk Turquoise wash on the bronze for a different color, and perhaps a bronze helmet?

    Any more suggestions, Warseer?

    Tried the helmet bronze:

Personally, I think the silver looked better - going to try black next.

    Re: Legion of Thorns

So, the blue shoulder pads definitely lean back toward World Eater's successors, so here's another color test, in blue, now with bronze trim:

    and a backpack shot:

mmm... maybe a bit too Ultramarine with the trim?

Darker grey/blue metal, but with the bronze pads and backpack to try and get some pop:

I like the beaten look of the bronze and I think the blue/grey metal looks better than the green... mmm

    So, what next?
Do I try red with the bronze pads?
