    G8Keeper's Project Log

    Hey all!

I always feel I should record my various projects but never get around to doing so for various reasons (mainly because I cant be bothered). As I am beginning a new project I thought that I would finally get this thing going!

I have a large painted army of Dark Angels and a tournament ready force of Imperial Guard, some of which i'll be adding pictures of at random points as I get around to photographing it all. For now however, I present to you my latest project:

    Blood Angels!

This is my tester model for the paint job I plan on using. Its basically following GW;s guide for a Blood Angels tactical marine on their website. I wanted to see how the highlighting would look before I added any real detail to the model, probably best seen in the picture from the back. I'm unsure, it kind of looks a little too orange to me.

My plan is to not buy anything until I have my current selection of Blood Angels completely finished. This consists of a 5 man tactical squad with flamer and power weapon sergeant and a 10 man death company unit.

    Any thoughts/ tips?

I'm not quite sure really. I wanted to get the basics down first so next after the Tactical squad and Death Company will be some form of HQ. I was leaning towards a Librarian or Chaplain both for pretty obvious reasons. I'm not really sure what the good builds are for BA, any help?

Ok last night I did a bit more on my concept model. He looks fine from arms length but im not so sure once you get up close, although these pictures don't really show that at all (too small).

Ive chosen the third company mainly because all i see with BA seems to be second company and I wanted to be different

    Re: G8Keeper's Project Log

Ok a bit of an update, I finished the test model! It looks ok but im not sure about using this technique on a whole army as it took about 5 hours of time to complete.

    Lessons learnt:

    1) Decals should be trimmed down quite close to the design.
    2) Put paints away after using them (see the pic of my temporary paint station).

    Obligatory work area shot:

The finished article, Brother Zakiel, Blood Angels 3rd Coy, 1st Squad.

I plan to pop up a few pics of my other ongoing projects soon as BA have annoyed me somewhat and i'm going to do a marine inbetween other projects I think so I can devote the necessary time to each individual model.

    Watch this space... :P

    Re: G8Keeper's Project Log

Possibly depending on the date and thus time constraints as the current technique is definately on the agonisingly long side. Fear not, I am always chipping away at one DA project or another. Heck ive got over 4000 points fully painted now, which I will post a pic of sooner or later.

One tip by the way, get used to painting layer upon layer of blood red, or find a better none GW alternative.

Having spent the last few hours laying all this out I hope I'll get some positive comments :P

    My entire Imperial painted collection:

I have a about 750pts each of nids and Eldar lying around somewhere too but I decided against popping those up . All of this comes in at just under 7000 points.

The blood angel looks excellent, that'll make a awesome looking force.

And the Guard / DA army looks very imposing, a truly sweet force.

    Keep it up mate!

    Re: G8Keeper's Project Log

Ive been working on this for a good while now, constantly coming back to it inbetween other projects. It's caused me no end of problems mainly due to removal of the release agent (until I discovered brake and clutch cleaner).

I hope to keep this project updated as a priority above all others as it is probably the coolest thing ive ever worked on.

    Dark Angels Thunderhawk:

Firstly the cockpit shot, the pilots themselves I feel need their faces redoing as I just wasnt up to painting skin back in the day, whereas now I feel my abilities could do them justice. The plethora of shoddy work around them to the front especially is literally down to so far only one or two coats having been applied.

This is where the monster is at presently. I am working on the sub-assemblies of heavy bolters as well as parts of the wing structure, painting each part first. Before I add anymore to the actual airframe I want to get all of the basic layers done.

The model looks very blotchy in these pictures and you can probably see where I had problems with the release agent, especially on the top half. Rest assured it looks alot better in person.

    Any comments/ tips etc?

    Good builds?

Super kicked-up cool looking kitbash characters!

    Here's my captain for example:

Do stuff like that and its okay! And for the army, Do the army you like!

Nice mini dreffbuilder. I was talking about army builds but I too am quite a kitbasher especially for my character models. I was thinking for a Captain (if i ever made one) of using the torso of a sanguinary guard like you see an example of in the codex, looks pretty cool.

    Re: G8Keeper's Project Log

Oh. Then, i see you own a lot of tanks. Should you...? Make a super ultra mech BA army. Quite good firepower against everything, fast tanks which can shoot even if they have moved 12" (one weapon) The Stormraven... Deep striking land raiders... ugh. But they are kinda overpower me thinks. So cheesy army. Nearly everybody mocks BA because they have so many super power abilities and special rules

    Like this:

My mate: "Blood Angel are so cheap. At the start of every game you should melt gorgonzola cheese and put it over your minis. They would be super effective. Librarians would have abilities like: "Blessing of cheese" "Cheddar Zone" and dreaded "Weapons of Mozzarella" In close combat they will choke "big balls of frozen cheese" On their opponents. Why did you start collecting BA mate? You know I hate them."

Me: "Well that's just because my Orks can't seem to win your "super power space wolf clone army"... I just wanna beat you. Even once. Just kidding, I just like them. I didn't start collecting them because I always lose to you. I haven't even bought the codex yet! But I just like to make cool looking guys and stuff."

^_^ He still keeps saying that to me.

So don't ask me. I'm not the right guy to say how you should make your tactics and things.

But do what you like. I love Dreads and walkers. you like? tanks?

    Cheers

    Re: G8Keeper's Project Log

I have no overpowered love for tanks but they do seem to crop up in most of my armies. I didnt realise until I put my whole army out just how many I had, im a closet treadhead maybe ?

Im really not sure what sort of BA army i want so I'm going to give myself thinking time and focus on some other projects, namely my thunderhawk.
