    Re: G8Keeper's Project Log

Darn it! Just assembling the front heavy bolter weapons mounts only to realise one is fine but I have two right heavy bolters for the other one! Mail fired off to FW :P

Note to self: A quick tick off of the parts is not enough, check everythin thoroughly!

Anyone know how good FW are with issues like this?

They're pretty good actually in that department.

    Pretty quick turnaround usually too.

    Not quite teh same avvie.

I'm guessing G8's is from the more recent CCG image that's online somewhere, whereas mine is from the original CCG card art.

    probably the same picture though!!!

    Re: G8Keeper's Project Log

Thought i'd pop a quick update up.

The sub assemblies for the Thunderhawk have been put on hold until Forgeworld send me a replacement part (on its way, brilliant customer service I must say as i brought this back in 2007). This has meant a change in focus to the wings which took a good while to get cleaned up and ready for painting.

The wings, overbrushed with dark angels green with detailing on the combat wings:

    An extremely swift update:

The missing heavy bolter arrived today (plus a spare) so I'll be popping some pics up once that's been finished and attached to the fuselage. Having problems with the wings staying on, any tips?

    Pin it perhaps?

Or use the big 5mm magnets from staples? and put about 4 in each side?

    Re: G8Keeper's Project Log

I finally have some progress worth sharing in picture form. Mostly I've been getting bits ready for painting lately whilst waiting for FW to send the Heavy Bolter through.

As you can see from the first picture below the latest Heavy Bolter assembly (right hand side) looks far far better than the first attempt, which has kind of twisted almost clean off thanks to some aggressive attempts to stop superglue doing its thing and making it static. For the right assembly I learnt my lesson and have green stuffed the targetting array on top allowing completely free movement. I think I may have to break off lefty and start again.

The major piece of work during the last week or so has been the wings. They are immesely heavier than any other part of the model that attaches on "freely" and because of this I've had to pin one, whilst the other seems to be fine with simply super glue. All in all i'm happy with these and just need to touch up various areas that became chipped during assembly.

Next up will be either the tail section or the front wings, possibly both before I post another update. Comments and critique welcome.

    Pin both, trust me.

I thought the wings would be fine on mu Lightnings, but they kept coming off.

    Even after I pinned them!!

And they're way lighter than that bad boy.

Have to think about storage & transportation though as well bud. - Did you do the interior and can you see it all?

    Re: G8Keeper's Project Log

I did do the interior yes but most of it is hidden even with the front ramp open oh well. Storage consists of my desk at the moment, i'm considering a custom foam option for transportation but that's going to be a huge expense even if its just pluck foam.

The only problem with that is it's really really expensive! Almost had a heart attack!

    Re: G8Keeper's Project Log

aye, that is true, the only other option is to buy a suitable piece of foam, cut the shape out and put it in a big box, as my mate did with his magnatised raider weapons

    Re: G8Keeper's Project Log

I guess i'm okay for now as any game big enough to use it in is likely to be held in my spare room . I'll have to figure something out if I need to take in anywhere though. Next update will probably be next week, I am getting some nids ready for a change of pace game on Saturday at the moment.

Wow, great looking Thawk. I can't wait to see it finished. I love the assembled army. I've really been missing working on tanks alot and I am thinking of making a armoured company just because its cool looking.

I can't wait to see more done on the Thunderhawk. Other then the crappy molds and even worse release agent it's one of FW's nicest kits I think. But if you like modeling ( I do ) then it seems like a modelers dream.

    Re: G8Keeper's Project Log

Ive been a bit bored of the Thunderhawk over the weekend and start of this week so I decided to continue with the rest of my DA colletion, namely, Sammael:

As you can see from the pics he's still very work in progress but coming along quite well. The eagle and winged sections of the jetbike need perhaps only skull white now (they are currently layered from shadow grey up to 50:50 skull white:space wolves grey) and are probably the nearest bit to completion.

    Re: G8Keeper's Project Log

Right, been a while since i've posted so a small update.

I've been struggling with the wings on the Thunderhawk but have finally managed to get the pinning right. The top bit that houses the turbo laser/ battlecannon was also a bit tricky but was simply a case of a bit of cutting and filing here and there. The left (as you look at the picture) heavy bolter was pretty easy to fix once i'd snapped it, oops.
