Thanks for the comments, guys. I'll get some of my own posted up in the next little while.

    @perplexiti

The Akira Bike is a scratchbuild. The basic chassis is a cut-down Deff Kopta, the wheel hubs are tau drones, and the rest of it is plasticard. You can check out a full project log on how I converted it on my website:

The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their own turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! we see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude. - Uthan the Perverse, Eldar Philosopher

@Irondog: Thanks for the quick reply. I've bookmarked your site to have a proper look as I love your work, I've got a soft spot for the old Orks.

Pretty sad that out of all the entrants this year we are already down to so few... I finally go around to commenting this time though so not all bad!

    --

misterboff - Nice scheme on the Dark Eldar - I think the heads you've used on the bikes are my favourite of the new plastics. Something about the blank visor makes them really inhuman.

Irondog - Once again you put my Waaagh to shame with your awesome Orkira bike. Totally gonna loot it if I want another Biker Boss! Excellent work on the Dreadknight too.

biginbelgium - Good work with the Space Hulk Librarian, he suits the army well - though I would get a 40mm round base to tack him onto in case opponents get arsey.

bigcheese76 - Starting to get a nice, cohesive force, always great to see an Imperial Guard player stick with that many tanks and guys!

djc - A great set of well executed Beastguard, these will look fantastic as a full army.

Vimes - Am loving the oldskool Beakies! I definitely need to get around to doing my RT Salamanders someday...

pudsey098 - I like the Kommandoes, you've done a good job integrating the FW bitz with the Black Reach boyz. I may have to do something similar for a future Kommando squad.

    --

In other news, I am definitely swinging towards Deathskulls as my next unit, as I want to represent another Klan in Boyz form, and my Flash Gitz will be Badmoons (when I get around to convertin them anyway).

I also managed to secure the last box of WHFB Orc Boys from my FLGS (just missed out on the second to last, someone else spotted it!) so will at some point be bolstering up one or both Snakebite Mobz (thinking of upping one to 30 and leaving the other as 10 in a 'trukk'/squiggoth)

Also, modelling on my next warboss is about done (looking for a few more gubbinz for their ride) so will be on the painting table once I finish off their base (hopefully getting a custom resin 'pill' chariot base done up by another guy at the club to match my 'Wazdakka')

    Consider it done!

I've also updated the list with JOKERs for anyone who hasn't posted yet (and removed anyone with three JOKERs), so please let me know if there's anything wrong with your entry.

Just about to finish of my Hekatrix, then I've only got 7 more Wyches to paint for this month...

Thanks for all the posotive feedback guys! I had no idea three Basilisks would be quite so scary to you all. I suppose there harmless when theyre on your side!

    EDIT:
Forgot to ask, Misterboff, if I take an army photo of everything so far, is it ok to upload it to the thread, or should I wait until the end of the tale?

Re: The Tale of 40k Painters 2010-2011 MONTH 7 (& APR WIP)

It's kinda sad to see so few of us left, considering how many there were at the beginning. On a personal level I've really enjoyed participating so far and have even started to plan what to do with next year's Tale and after seeing what the rest of you have done I hope you all return too.

    Anyway, comments for the month;

@misterboff; The reavers look great. How do you find they work with the small bases?
@Irondog; I thought the Grey Knights looked great, but the Akira bike is truly spectacular. Your Orks are one of my favourite armies of the Tale.
@biginbelgium; That's an impressive output for the month. Nice job with the Space Hulk Librarian. Reminds me I have one to do at some point.
@bigcheese76; I find painting tanks a real pain in the ****, so I'm always impressed by people who paint lots of them.
@djc; I like the weathering on the Chimera and Vendetta. Very nicely done without it looking over the top.
@Zark the Damned; More greenskins. Looking forward to see the Flash Gitz at some point.
@perplexiti; I love the old stuff and those Razorback turrets are still the best looking. It'll be nice to see your finished army in a few months time.
@Vimes; Nice. The subtle conversion on the casualty ties it in to the rest of the force well.
@Fanny Crowbar; As excellent as ever. The skin tones you've got and the shading is awesome.
@pudsey098; The Kommandos are great and a clever usage of the AoBR Orks.

@Mini77: I totally agree mate, the new razorbacks are cool and all. But I p[refer a lot of the old school stuff. It's always a shame to see other people drop out as well.

I've written my list for the next tale already too, It's going to be completely different from this one, loads of termies for a start.

Likewise. I'm torn between Eldar or Orks.

Feel free to upload your pic, it's always good to see where everyone's up to so far.

I've had no problems with any of my DE (ball-joint) flying bases. I keep them separate from the models for storage, and they stay together just fine in-game without any glue.

I've got next year's Tale narrowed down to two possible armies: more Dark Eldar (to add in whatever comes next), or a return to my Deathskulls (bolstered with Apocalypse and Forge World stuff)...

Go with Orks, Fanny. You won't regret it.

Orks give you way more freedom for modeling and painting. Eldar have a set 'feel' to them, all sleek and pretty. Any conversion work kind of has to go along those lines or it looks a bit 'off'.

With Orks, whatever you want to do with them will fit their wacky theme. You want Deff Kopta pilots wearing beanie caps with propellers on them? Go for it! It will totally work with the Orks.

Case in point. Show me another army in 40k where you can get away with something like this:

    Nuff said!

Yeah more Orks are always good, I'll still be doing my Wolves next time. I guess it would be called a Logan-wing army. Maybe for the next one after that I'll get a new army going.

Next year I'll likely be doing Necrons. I have a small amount already unassembled, so with the new codex on the horizon it'll be a good time to get them started. I want to expand my Imperial Guard to 1750 or so.

Most of this is what I've painted for the Tale so far. It's all actually been painted in the last 12 months after I'd wandered into a GW store after 10 years of not gaming or painting. There's just over 4000 points in the pic, of which the Tale has contributed around three quarters of.

Re: The Tale of 40k Painters 2010-2011 MONTH 7 (& APR WIP)

Thanks to everyone for comments, quite surprise so many like the AoBR Kommandos. I must also admit I'm not sure what to plan for next years tale, its definitely a great motivation and inspiration for me. At the moment its either Dark Eldar or Space Wolves anybody got any thoughts to sway me?

    Anyways comments time:

@misterboff - Great reavers definitely look like a mean bunch of killers, hopefully they will help in your quest for victory

@Irondog - Fantastic miniatures once again! Really like the 'Akira' Bike it really makes me want to try and give it ago myself

@biginbelgium - Great painted Librarian like the detail on the book and the white eyes

@bigcheese76 - Good to see your Basilisks completed if only from a modeling point of view!

@djc - Really like the detail thats gone into the hand prints. Good use of the beastmen as troops and I really like the icons here and there that tie the army together, its the little details for me that makes it

@Mini77 - The Storm Raven looks the best painted one I've seen, really like Lukas too, nice smooth space wolves grey

@Zark the Damned - Good use of warhammer orks and the 40k range, I like the odd splash of colour thrown into the mix too

@Perplexiti - Good work on the Razorback, good idea to have the bolters on the outside

@Vimes - Good looking Crimson Fists terminator and the Dreadnought base looking good as well

@Fanny Crowbar - Really like the skin and posing of the Helliarch, and the Haemonculus look really scary too

Well done to all of you still in the tale, there really is some amazing work from all of you!

Apologies to all for my lack of involvement recently, it's taken me a while to adjust to a new job! I've actually finished my army, should I wait until next month to post the final army shot or go ahead and post it this month?

Progress has been good so far on the Tankbustas; just need to decide how to paint the rokkits and then basing

I have a couple of weeks off so will hopefully get around to starting the next unit. Have some ideas in mind (inc a Snakebite Warboss and a Squiggoth, another Big Mek (if I can find him!), maybe some bikes).

@Irondog - the Tater Stompa is still one of my favourite things ever in 40K, thank you for reminding me of it

    Hi guys and gals,

The new thread is now up:

The Tale of 40k Painters 2010-2011 MONTH 8 (& MAY WIP)

Please only post April's completed work in that thread until the 10th. On the 10th it will then become the work in progress (wip) thread for May, so please continue to use this thread for wip until then.

Note that I've moved the deadline forward from the 8th to the 10th due to Warseer's downtime, and the fact that I those of us that are left can relax a bit at this point in the Tale.
No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering.
