    Carot's orange eldar...an attempt

Hello all, a friend and I made a pact this winter. With the release of the new Dark Eldar he began re-collecting a DE army, while I have had the better part of an Eldar army (in box) for more than 2 years now. So we challenged each other to finish our respective Xenos armies before each other.

    I, however, went a bit overboard...as normal.

I also decided that this would be a good attempt to run an actual plog, which I'm not so good at. Usually I just paint the army up take a few pics....and then don't bother to post them. But seeing as this is an army I'm neither used to nor very comfortable painting, getting some critiques from people who are old hands at this seemed smart.

    So here goes:

Currently I've got a guardian squad and a war walker through the base work and some of the detail work:

everything that should be magnetized is (I think), And I've finally settled on an artistic scheme.

It's a variation on the Yme-Loc color scheme, with that as it's intended craftworld.

A question on all the little gems......a lot, or a little? Am I painting too many of the little buggers on the individual troopers?

I had done most of the work on the guardian squad a looong time ago, the newer squads will look better, but the old squad needs a lot of touch-up first.

I also apparently need to work on my photography skills, heh.

Amazing scheme. Though I do think that the colours would be even more vibrant under a white undercoat. Just something to keep in mind for a next batch of models.

Just finished the gems on the old guardian squad and began working on the dark reaper exarch. Next up will be the exarchs' squad along with the next guardian squad. Also a lot of erasing to do still.

Thanks Tokamak, I'll give it a try. I was planning too when I got to the wave serpent anyways. I'll have to find a suitable model to test, maybe one of the warlocks.

    Re: Carot's orange eldar...an attempt

    Just a mini update:

I had to go buy a humidifier to get the airbrush to work properly. Then I ran into an error when I applied the red wash (note: thinned red wash can dry pink!). But I should be back on track after I get the wave serpent magnetized. Currently applying the bright orange highlight.

So, in progress: the Dark reapers, Wave Serpent and a Farseer.

Edit: oh yeah, this is done on a white basecoat too! *wink*

Nice little army you've got there - and glad to have another convert to the orange revolution! (see my marine plog for more orange!).

I like the vibrancy you've got going, though I personally would stick with the black undercoat as I think it looks better.

    Re: Carot's orange eldar...an attempt

    Thanks for the comments.

I keep to a black undercoat for most of the individual models as the Foundation Orange makes quick work of a base to start from, but on the tanks I'll be sticking to a white coat on the hull because I'll be airbrushing the main colors to keep the coat smooth and even.

Here's what I've got to build still:

    1 Autarch
    1 Fuegan
    4 Warlocks
    6 Swooping Hawks
    6 Howling Banshees
    12 Fire Dragons
    10 Guardians w/ Platform
    10 Dire Avengers
    5 Rangers
    2 more Warwalkers
    2 more Wave Serpents
    1 Fire Prism

Then I have plans to Convert my own Autarch as I can't stand the current one, and I'm also toying with the idea of a squad of storm guardians...and that squad of custom Warpspiders done by John Shaffer on page 227 of the rulebook is very tempting as well. Also maybe some Striking Scorpions if I don't like the Banshees, we'll see.

I'm also not touching jetbikes at the moment as I suspect they'll be replaced eventually with a newer model.

So, lots to do...dum de dum.

O, and I almost forgot the old Armorcast Scorpion which will require some heavy conversion work.

I return! After speed painting an Iyanden army:

I finally found the parts and motivation to continue work on my own Eldar. I had become horribly stumped with my Autarch, I had a concept of what I wanted him to look like:

More specifically I wanted to heavily convert his helmet to look like that one. I finally came across some helmet bits from....somewhere (can't remember at the moment, I'll look it up a bit later). and with a combination of those and my lack-luster green stuff skills I achieved the desired build:

I apologize for the shoddy photos, I just can't seem to get the knack of those really close shots.

The look is intended to be an Asian inspired war-mask, combined with a power weapon, Fusion gun and either wings or a jump generator (not sure which yet), I'm going to magnetize his back-options to give me more versatility though.

The Spawn figure is also the artistic inspiration for the detailing of the army. And though I may hate many of the finecast models currently, the finecast Autarch is what helped make this conversion possible.....though many of the weapons in the kit were simply ruined (thank Eldanesh for Dire Avengers sprues).

    Ciao,
    Carot

Nice to see another Yme-Loc army in the works, although you have much, much more orange than grey for my taste. It's all well done though!

    Re: Carot's orange eldar...an attempt

    Thanks for the comments guys!

I realize I hadn't yet shown you the Dark Reapers or the Farseer, so here's a group shot along with the current status of the Autarch:

and here's a shot of the Reaper Exarch and the Farseer up close. I'm sorry for the crappy shot, I did it in a hurry.

The wave serpent is still in progress, I'm a bit stuck on how to best apply the flame detail thingy to it, it's all assembled and magnetized, it just sits there and looks at me.

You have a great color scheme and the Guardians are very well painted, but you really need some better pictures.

The Farseer's color is quite innovative and it looks very good, I would never think of pairing gold with white, I'd love to paint a whole army of them.

I really like your guardians, armour looks superb.

    Re: Carot's orange eldar...an attempt

You guys are too nice, I need to do so much more work, heh.

Taking advice from d6juggernaut I tried to do better on my pictures today:

Here's what I worked on, this is only stage 1 of the orange and I'm trying a little more grey on them as well:

Name:	Eldar-06.jpg
Views:	39

a hopefully better shot of the Farseer (still have to do the swords and various bits and pieces though like the squigly runes):

And an army shot with a close-up on the characters:

I'm also busy magnetizing all the heavy weapons and before I start on the blades I need to teach myself that mirror edge effect. All the guardian squads will be getting some form of the yellow flames as well (the pattern will be throughout the entire army). So much to do, but tomorrow I have to get my inquisitor models based so these guys won't get as much love.

    Re: Carot's orange eldar...an attempt

I'm still making progress, but it's been slow. I've been tossed more than a few projects to get done the next month.

Here's the current status of the next Guardian squad:

I've also picked up a Storm Guardians squad that I intend to convert up and gathered about half the parts I need for the Warp Spiders I intend to build.
