Starting a new Flesh Tearer army. Very excited. I think this is going to be a lot of fun. Here is the first squad. Working on their Sanguinary Priest and Razorback transport now.

    Let me know your thoughts.

nice. very cool red tone on these. im not that up to date on their fluff (dinosaurs on home world and not many of them left is about as far as i go, and cool egypt/egyptology related character names), thoughthe skin seems a bit pale/sickly - though well-painted.

    nice work on these

I actually quite like the skin - think it fits well with their dark background.

A great army quality here, keep up the good work!

    Re: Flesh Tearers!

Great start, I agree the tone of red is spot on, a real dark grim look to them.

Always had a soft spot for the Flesh Tearers. Echoing what the others have said I think your colors are spot on. I especially like the blood on the chain weapons. All too often people go overboard and overwhelm their figures with gore and blood splatters but you've nailed it with these.

Excellent stuff - I really like how you have achieved a deep red on the armour, and your balck highlights are also really crisp. The Priest is nice too - a simple but effective conversion.

Just one criticism, if I may - the melta gun barrel could do with drilling out! Just a pet peeve of mine!

    Keep at it!!!

Thanks, guys. Really appreciate the kind words.

I might get around to boring out the barrels at some point.

Aghast, I have brazenly stolen your idea for painting vehicles. I just loved what you did with the saw pattern so much I had to copy it. Almost done painting the first Razorback. Will post shortly.

I notice my whites look really washed out in these pics. There is actually a lot more depth to the bone and also the faces in RL. Any advice on how to photograph them better?

    Re: Flesh Tearers!

I'm not one to comment on picture quality as mine are hit and miss. Can you describe how you took those shots? What was the ambient lighting, did you use flash, any lights directly on the models?

I find my pics turn out best with lots of natural light or non at all, cloudy days don't work well for me. I also use a desk lamp and flash on the camera to get more light on the models (when I'm in the mood to take my time). There are lots of photobox guides out there if you want to bother with that too, I'm not so picky myself.

    Re: Flesh Tearers!

Really nice flesh tearers there Seville - I really like the depth of colour and the over all vampiric look to them! Very nice army.

Regarding pics, what sort of camera are you using? Try not to use a flash but a longer exposure if you have those options, it's better for picking up the depth of colour as flash washes models out in my experience.

Wow i'm really impressed with the blending on the red and the extreme highlights are something of wonder! The whole pale skin looks awesome, things that tend to be bad/evil in nature have paler skin so i think it suits, i like the thought of these guys being sent in to do the dirty work when no one else is upto the task.

The painting's great and I really like the vampiric skin, esp on the preist, but if Their chainswords were on and they were hacking at enemies wouldn't all the blades, or at least more than just a few, get covered in blood?

Indeed, and that is a legitimate criticism. I considered that, but, in the interests of keeping the aesthetics pleasing and balanced, decided to go for a more "unrealistic" distribution of gore on the chain blades. If you look at my Fantasy Chaos army, you'll see that they are positively spattered in gore, but, for some reason, I just can't bring myself to do that to Space Marines.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Really makes it all worth it.
