"Fingaz" Blitmek- Dakka from the Skies (Orks Log)

Hi to all and hope you like what my rather oddboy mek mind can come up within this log.

My first project log. I want to do a Big shout out to Captain Brown it was by his help and inspiration (elysians) that got me started on the project log.

Since reading Deff Skwadron a graphic novel set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe written by Gordon Rennie and illustrated by Paul Jeacock, i've been fixed on the idea of a themed ork flying army. Everything and anything that is listed in the codex that i can get an idea to make it into a flyin contraption of some sort or rather i will put in my army.

Deffkoptas will be "count as" Bikes so i will be doing a wazdakka army to make them whirring blades of death scoring too. But thats all the sneeky info your getting for now.

I want a good amount of choppa death in my army and the model is sweet to boot. So 18 sounds like a good target to build to for now. But i don't want copy and paste, orks don't do that so each one will be individual hope you like. enjoy;

Bitz hunted down over various Internet shops, ebay and of course games-workshop itself.

What i always do with any model with exhausts, drill a hole and crave round it, to make it look 3D rather than a straight edge, the little details stand out more.

Bike Gunz and Shoota boyz guns fingers are itching to start.

Ok first Choppa Up Basic but little details go a long way. Hope the pictures are ok.

just a trim to fit into place.





He didn't think there was enough dakka so he brought his slugga along with him to get the job done.

I want them to represent Deathskulls but i don't want to over do it, subtle so this one like others will have marine shoulder pads, either crimson fists or ultramarine colours.

The extra dakka on the "bikes" looks good, wondering if you thought of adding some ammo belts?

You drill you exhausts but not your gun barrels???

Yes my gun barrels get drilled as well that goes without saying...well maybe it does lol.

I have thought of ammo belts however after looking and drawing ideas some look good without while others it suits to have them.

My first choppa look ok without it i thought and i pictured that the ammo feeds just behind the shell discharge hole.

I did two more last nite and am happy with the results hope you like, but before i post the pics heres an odd wonder. I can convert anywhere i wish, but i find that am most comfortable and get more ideas lying down on the floor to start my conversion as you can see by my mat. Does anyone else have a specific place they find as their comfort zone to convert or again am i a oddball lol

i thought ammo feeds would be to front
heavy, but i think it looks good without.
A lascannon power cell for that extra
Vroooom!

This ork wants to make sure he hits
his target so to make sure he added a
marker scope to mark his victims.

I wanted to make each one a bit different
but not over the top so this guy has a extra
exhaust. fits well i think

just little more detail to boot

My third Choppa pilot is a proper loota 4
Imperial Guard Heavy Bolters with Ammo Feeds.
But it didn't look orkish enough, so i decided
to use all the scrap bitz and cuttings to make
a metal jaw like teeth for detail.
I think it will stand out more when it's painted.
Also looted a hunter killer missile to on the landing leg

I hope it looks part of the model but if you look carefully
just under the pilot you will see a marine plasma cannon cable.

Do I get another medal for another post Wecome to the world of apathy! there are more lurkers than posters, thats just a fact of forums.

The new one with the loota MG's does look a bit nose heavy, extending the rotor baldes or adding an extra one might be an idea, there is a post around here that had the tail section lengthened, that looked very cool.

Have you thought about doing a version of the Forgeworld Chinork helicopter?

All I can say is that I'm digging the idea. You might want to place the two halves of the gun barrels a bit better, so it actually looks as if they are a single piece rather than two halves glued on top of each other.

So when will you start painting?

I'm thinking of the forgeworld helichopper as my trukks which am hoping to have two 10man ork boy squads with count as trukks being the sweet forgeworld kit.

But like my first post that's not just my cake and eat it done deal.
I was thinking of replacing the front rotating blade, driver, engine seat setup with a more trukk feel or look with two deffkoptas side by side or a land speeder from the blue bottles.

Actually i like that idea i just thought of.... convert two landspeeder storms together as in two transporter bays put next to each other and put rotater blades above the centre, b a mini vietnam sort of look.....

sorry mind carrying away there. As i was saying, yes am hoping to have two chinoptas as my trukks. The front section of the model with added hellhound petrol tanks will be a count as for my .... SCORCHA BUGGY'S hehe

This will be in the long future cos of money but this log is here to stay so hopefully i will get round to it right now it's deffkoptas and ork boy boxes for dakka.

My level of conversion skills is in my opinion limited, and at the moment this is the level am hoping to keep going but yes i can see your point on the two halves i just wish i had more experince really.

I knew someone would ask my bane of my existence... PAINTING!

Am more than happy to say that am the far opposite of the eavy metal team as metal is to rope, even though i took art at A-level. The way i work is that i like to make the entire army first, Then paint it as an entirely different project afterwards.

The reason if i get more money or lay my hands on bits i can go back and add more detail to models i couldn't or didn't think of doing at the time. That way theres not one model where i can say yeah i can't do anymore to it.

Am hoping to do an all niter tomorrow hoping to get at least 3-4 choppers done in that time. I don't like to rush because wheres the fun in that.

Am more of a converter modelist than a player so am in no hurry

Good morning Warseer!

Very tired but very happy with the results of my conversion work, if i do say so myself. I love doing all niters even when they are few and inbetween.

Am starting to collect Ideas now in my head and of what sort of look i want for my army. I know i want the nobs in my deffkoptas to have two sets of hands as having a pincer, klaw thing would cut off the handlebar or couldn't steer (even though orks don'y worry bout such trival thingz).

Am thinking of a buzzsaw sort of set-up maybe a killa kan weapon. Like the nob pilot can't help but show off by flying at an angle and driving the blades of his Kopta into the enemy gettin first blood.

Also am looking to split the two hands on handlebars and one hand on handlebars down to 50/50 of my force to mix it up. Am also getting a different variant of deffkopta head by using the stormboyz one with the mouth closed.

Anyway without further ar do here are my last nites results; Enjoy


So i clipped and flipped the ammo drums
to make them fit better

I adjusted the top guns to sit back
making a rack effect, which i feel gave more
detail.

A scavenged marine helmet with bullet holes
drilled across the front.

I found the gap between the front canopy and
the marine head was to much and thought of
covering it up. Its not great but i thought it works
with the shape and orky feel.

OOOver there boyz... get them. Got me the stompa
boyz pointy fingaz, i thought it look good.

Am starting to trust my fingers and craft skills so the
next one i cut the rockets out(Kept them for something
in the future Hint..Hint..) and trimmed around the teeth.

I them add the shootas with ammo clips and i think i
pulled it off well.

I also change the targeter

Close up, i think this is the best suited yet, as to size and
shape for the deffkopta.

And The rest of my nites work


I like the stubber looking barrels than other
styles and this one shows why.

I angle the head down so this one is flooring it
to win the big race into battle

I think i'll tune into Deepstrike Radio or The Overlords,
then again Swansea's The Wave is good to.

Another boyz Shoota and i reattached the ammo clips
to the sides

I think the troop gunz are best suited for Deffkoptas but
am a Mek Boss at heart, when has size matter as long
as it gives plenty of Dakka!

One more Deffkopta converted, I used the storm boyz head along with the power cell from the marine hunter killer missile for added machinery. And a broken searchlight with added detail of trimmed servo head cables giving the impression that it doesn't work, hope you like enjoy.









The last bits are forgeworld. Am collecting the
pieces to make my Boss but neeed more time
and bitz
anyway.

I wanted to try a three barrel version,
however doing the tripod look didn't look
right.

So i added the searchlight in its place.

hes missing a arm, so i will replace it with
a new piece within the week of a delivery
i will hopefully get next week

I have decided that i do want deffkoptas with the BIG BOMM upgrade in my army but how can i make them stand out to be deffkoptas when am already using the models to represent bikes....

Nice deffkopatas, I like the barrel work, though I would have left them with rokkits just because they are great tank bustas like that. Good use of the pointy arm, I've got 3 stashed for various conversion jobs now

At the speed we were going no way was it a speed freak vehicle lol.

It's only because the deffkoptas represent warbikes with the dakka guns that i converted them.

But i do have ideas that will leave the rokkits on the model to represent other vehicles.

Bitz i've ordered during the week mainly

I've added ammo belts by cutting a section
out of the front canopy so the feed looks
part of the model rather than just placed
there.

As normal looted parts and a stormboyz head

Orks like to blow things up, the bigger the explosion, the more it kills. If the pilot and kopta blow up too, well all the better the explosion will be. Meks like to kustomize and build whatever their minds can come up with. Usually a imperial creation but modified and better (in the meks eye) than its original.

Although not smart, Orks due have a tendacy to not be around when a mek says hes got a new sekret weaponz he wants to try out, but "Fingaz" Blitmek had thought of this after the years of experimenting and has enrolled his new skwadron with very little intisement needed.

By employing a Stormboyz drill sergeant and taking out the words untryed weaponz and you may die in the induction, the new recuits believe that they are carrying out a high prioity mission with the latest weapon try and tested beforehand.

Introducing the GROT BOMMERZ SKWADRON

I've been trying to come up with a background story for my army and for this little adventure this is what i had thought of, hope you liked it.

I know i using the deffkopta models in my army for bikes but i also wanted the actually rules as well as they have access to the big bomm which is not game winning but would make a cool conversion. I wanted them to stand out from the rest and i wanted some fun in the process. So my next project to come will be two Grot Bommez Deffkoptas.
