Nurgle guard servants of decay list)

Since this project has been going on for almost a year now I decided an update of the first page might be in order. The log has slowly evolved from a renegade guardsmen army themed around papa nurgle to a log with all the chaos units I could get my greedy hands on. As such there are actually three armies in here:
    - Renegade guardsmen based on the servants of decay list from imperial armour seven
    - Chaos Daemons
    - Chaos Space marines.

I will be painting all of these models depending on which currently takes my fancy. The goal (if there is one) is to make a nice and huge army that celebrates chaos in al of it's glory. A fair bit of the traitor guardsmen units have been converted such as the zombies and mutants. There are also a fair bit of forgeworld models in here with a greater unclean one on page 3 and some blight drones on page 4. Whenever I get the chance more of these kind of models will be added.

Since pictures speak louder than words, here is a shot of the army so far. This only includes all of the painted models, not the heaps that still need to be done.

Also, the picture quality gets better after first pages since I've started using sheets and tried to get better light conditions.

Below is the original text with which I started the blog.
Having finished multiple codex army's for 40k I wanted a project in which I could do something different.and do a project log about it. So I picked up the servants of decay list from Imperial armour seven. I will be building most of the special units and plan on having a large unit of zombies and mutants. Without further ado I present thee: The servants of decay (until I figure out a better name that is.

Plague zombies, so far I have finished 21. I'll probably end up making this a group of 50 (the maximum for one unit)

Some of the forgeworld models I will be using:

    2 chaos spawn:

My first batch of mutants, many bits from quite a few ranges were used. I plan on getting a box of bestigor and chaos marauders for the rest of them. Still have a load of bits I can use .

Plague marines. These are the standard metal ones. I also have a conversion set from forgeworld I'll be using to make another 10 later on.

    And one taken somewhat closer.

I'll be converting quite a few Imperial guard vehicles to make them more appropriate and Nurgly later on. The basic gaurdsmen will be build with the forgeworld upgrade kit. Any comments are welcome

Do the mutants have armour and/or two handed weapons? If not then the gors are cheaper and just as cool.

    Nice start on the army.

Looking at the site I did indeed write down the wrong ones, got all the gors mixed up.. Thanks for the correction . Mutants have a laspistol and handweapon as a standard, but I won't give all of them guns since I simply don't have the bits for it. And it's never going to be tournament legal either way since it's a forgeworld list.

I have been working on the army for a bit, so I have some new models to show:

    Chaos Spawn Front and back:

    Plague Ogryn front and back:

    The first renegades:

    Hellhound:

I also painted one rogue psyker and 20 new zombies but the pictures were a bit to blurry to post, so they will be in the next update.

i love the way you made you're mutants, and the way you painted the spawn, plague ogryn and zombies.

i'll be keeping my eyes on this log.

    Thanks for the kind words.

I have a smaller update for now, painted a few more models and made a couple of heavy weapon teams.

    Second batch of zombies:

These guys were mostly made with the spare torso's from the catachan kits I;ll be using for my renegades. So they look a bit different from the first batch.

    My rogue psykers:

I'm thinking of using the color scheme on the left guy as the basis for my army. It's basicly a muddy brown for the pants, bronze plates and dirty green jumpers/coats.

    Second Plague Ogryn:

I really need to install photoshop again...

Rear of the second plague ogryn:

Both of my plague ogryns together:

These models are great, and I can't wait to see some more of these guys. The FW models complement the Zombies nicely, if I do say so myself. Keep it up.

Re: Nurgle gaurd (servants of decay list)

I have spent some time building and painting tanks, so I now have two painted chimera's and a painted hellhound. With one more of each in the works.

    Command Chimera:

Side shot one of all the tanks:

    Other side:

    Rear:

    Front:

Close up of chimera number 2:

And that's it for now, I'll be painting the weapon teams next, so they should be finished in a couple of days.

Nice, the tentacles are at times random, but the overall paintscheme really ties them into the model as a whole.

Re: Nurgle gaurd (servants of decay list)

Been a while since the last update as I have been busy building and painting fantasy stuff. (Skaven and Orcs and goblins) But I managed to get some more painting done.

    Third chimera:

And also the last one, for now

    Plague mortar team no. 1

They look a bit darker in the picture then they do in reality, but theres not much I can do about that with this camera. And I noticed i need to fix the eye of the guy on the left.

    All painted vehicles so far:

Turret of a work in progress banewolf

    Corrupted rhino

The basic idea for this is that some sort of chaos spawn has corrupted the vehicles in a few places, the gunner is fused to the vehicle. Which would be fairly unpleasant during transport

I have a third plague ogryn on the painting table so that should be thing I finish next. I'll probably end up building some more infantry models in the next few days. The platoon command is also a great set of models begging for some painting, so I'm not completely sure of what to do next.

Nice, I really like the Tank Driver models, along with the Rhino. What did you do to the top of that rhino to get it to look like it's dissolving?

I use Rough grey purnice from vallejo for that. I also used it as the flocking on the basis and the dirt on the tank tracks. It's great stuff.

I finished the third plague ogryn and will be uploading some pictures of it soon. I've also started building some plague marines with the use of forgeworld parts so those should be ready in the near future.

Looks simple enough. How big of an army do you plan for? I would love to see this army grow!

Re: Nurgle gaurd (servants of decay list)

I intend to make this a fairly big army in the end. I want to add nurgle daemons at some point and I'll be expanding the chaos space marine side of it as well. If I'm lucky to come across some forgotten heap of cash (or crazy enough to just buy it) I'll add the FW greater unclean to the army at some point.

Third Plague ogryn has been painted as well, so that means there is now a complete unit of three. I'm thinking of converting some fantasy ogres into some more plague ogryns, but I'm not sure if that is feasible.

First renegade guardsmen, the zoom on the camera I use is a bit crap so the picture isn't sharp enough to my liking, but it should give you an idea how the army will look. I decided to paint him to resemble the tanks. So I mainly used browns and greens.

A defiler I have been painting on the side, this very work in progress since only the first layer has been painted on.

Re: Nurgle gaurd (servants of decay list)

I used the following recipe for my tanks.

Basecoat with fortress grey, layer on dheneb stone. Heavy wash with Devlan mud, light wash with greyphonia sephia. Light drybrush with 2/1 mixture of knarloc green and scab red. Add some shading with thraka green wash if you used to much red in the previous layer.

The mutations and infections where done with various shades of green, brown red and purple.

Nice, the latest update is interesting. I like the Plague Ogryns from FW, they really do make a good centerpiece for a Nurgley army.

Quick update: I'm almost done with the defiler and I'll post some pictures of it tomorrow. The plague marines build using the forgeworld bits will hopefully be finished tonight so I can show them of soon. I also ordered a box of gors and a box of chaos marauders to make some more mutants.
