Thread: Barbarossa's Rhubarb Barbarians [Chaos WHFB]

    Barbarossa's Rhubarb Barbarians [Chaos WHFB]

Ok, a silly name. But now that I have your attention: Itīs just another Chaos Army Plog

4 Years ago I started the hobby with a Chaos army and since then I am working on it. I must be the antipode of a speedpainter - and the army is still not finished yet

In this plog I post the current status of my army and the further progress.

    Starting with Barbarossa himself.

I hope you like him. Comments are very much welcome!

    Cheers, Sen

Looks great! Your red is coming up nicely, but your golds are stellar. I might shade the tassels on the helm a touch to get some contrast and, perhaps, shade the armor one more layer. Overall, though, the results are stunning. Well done!

Great use of the Gamezone and Rackham models on the knights. Those two units are stellar! First time I've actually seen the gamezone knights, actually -- I quite like them. Very nice job on the banner/cloak!

Those alternative miniatures are wonderful. I've never seen most of them before. Great painting and composition will be watching with interest.

    Cool units!

I have a unit of GZ knights too! Bught them before the release of the new plastic CK, they were absolutely superior. Well, they are still pretty cool models.

AH! And I'm so jealous. Always wanted to have marauder horsemen units made from those drunes. They look AWESOME! Please don't tell me you have some units of thousands drunes on foot as marauders! xD

    Nice work! ;D

wow, amazing chaos army! Probably my favorite of any I've seen here, you have excellent taste in minis, and a painting skill I'm quite jealous of!

Great looking models! Very well painted! Don't you think it is a pity that you cannot use this army is GW tournaments because the mini's are not all GW?

Thank you very much, I am glad you like em
Fortunately, I don't play any tournaments, so this isn't a problem for me.

Very nice! And you managed to build them up in a way they rank up very well. I didn't manage that, so I had to give up the drums - now my musician uses the head of his horse as a drum

And no: unfortunately I had to use the GW-Marauders (Rackham would have been too costly).
Hereīs my first unit of Marauders:

The Unit filler is a little insider joke: The mate I am mostly playing against has an ogre army. So this is one of the few of his guys who survived our last battle. I don't know if he is luckier one...

Loving the army! Especially that unit filler How did you do the skin on the Ogre if you don't mind me asking?

Cool unit filler, and brilliant painting the Confrontation riders work really well. My only comment is you should have greenstuffed the joint of the arm on the marauder standard bearer. It doesn't erally matter in the back ranks, but for a command guy, it's visible.

Oh, thatīs a tough question because I often donīt write it down (not for standalone models anyway).
But I am quite sure that I first used the standard recipe from the army book:
    1) Base coat: Graveyard Earth/Shadow Grey
    2) Base coat + Kommando Khaki
    3) Bleached Bone

Then I made some additional highlights with Bleached Bone/White. Finally I made some strongly diluted glazes: primarily Liche Purple for the shadows, but (I think) also some green, yellow and red tones.

Thank you! And yes, youīre right: I should have done that. But then again I know myself. If I had started using green stuff on one of these marauders then I would have used on everyone. I was simply too lazy for that

Damn, loved your marauders, even considering that I hate the GW ones, but youe conversions (regarding not being as critical as mine xD) help a lot!

And the skin tone, looks brilliant. How did you paint the skin?? Looks great!

Wow, great stuff! Those Chaos knights look very cool, my first time seeing them, and as Anvalous said, lovely work on the champ's cape.

Other than that, I can only say that everything is beautifully painted, definitely worth you having taken the time over it. The ogre in particular is beautiful work, the conversion looks very natural, and the depth of the paintjob.... bloomin' marvelous
