The Damned 13th a WoC log

    Brand new WFB player here.
As my friends all started playing fantasy again in 8th I decided to tag along (and I have a severe "have to paint too much IG"-syndrome so I really needed a change of scenery).
As I wanted to get into Hordes of Chaos back in 6th I decided to stay with Chaos as I figured I am starting an army with a "low" model count as I'm more of a painter than a gamer. 8th says: LOL

Anywho...this is a list of what I currently have:

    - about a dozen wizards/heros
    - 15 knights (10 await the FW Death Guard upgrade)
    - 2x24 warriors
    - 2x30 marauders ( includes a few beastmen to break it up a bit )
    - 1x5 marauder horsemen
    - 3-4 spawns
    - 20 chosen (whatever happend to their horses )
    - 20 dogs

    Lets try some picts:

I'm going for 4 different spawns to represent each of the chaos gods. These are Khorne/Tzeentch.

My Nurgle BSB, formerly a Devastor Sarge...and even before that a guy called Crom the Conqueror. I should call him "Prince" .

Guess I shouldn't have been on the phone while inking those scrolls...but he's nurgle's homeboy so were still good...

Re: The Damned 13th a WoC log

I've also painted the last Games Day mini.

I'm trying the OLS thing, didn't work out all that great but I'm ok with it. You have to start somewhere, I guess. I have one of them still in a blister ...maybe a greenish yellow OSL for the next attempt?

ARGH, now that I look at the photos I guess I should have dusted him off fist...meh.

And here's what I'm currently working on:
24 Warriors,Mark of Nurgle, halberds, shields, Banner of Rage:

Only the boots/gloves are done, armor will get some rust patches. Rust on the metal needs one or two more layers.
I really like how those horn-less helmets look, did the same thing to one of my Marauder blocks.

Oh, totally forgot: I've also painted the Genaral on Daemonic Mount...will post pictures after the holidays.

    Now I'm off to Nuremberg...We're going to have a 7500pt game on thursday (3x2500 Skaven vs. 1x3750 O&G + 1x 3750 WoC)thehehe so many victims.

    Blood for ze Blood God,

As promised: my general on daemonic mount.

This is the closest pict color-wise (I suck at taking picts, sorry.)

    And here's a collage:

I entered him into a painting competition at my local GW store a few months back...and won, to my surprise.

    Hope you like him,

Re: The Damned 13th a WoC log

Hmmm...no replies; I must be doing great

Anyway, the big "easter massacre"-game kinda collapsed when one of the Skaven players decided he had better things to do. Very fluffy.
So we went with 2x2 2500 points per side. I hadn't prepared a 2500list and had to improvise...I got tabled. Not exactly surprising when I noticed there were 2800pt on my side of the table while the O&G player played only against 2200pt. Lessons learned: THE HPA IS FRIKKIN BROKEN!!! (It killed like tripple its own points.)

As for the painting side of things:

I left the Nurgle Warriors in Nuremberg and took the 20 Warounds back with me for painting.
I'm also working on Harry the Hammer and Wulfrik (man, I've never seen that much details spammed onto a single miniature).

On the great side of things I've done some cleaning up and found some old Rackham minis in my "to-be-used-as-something-awesome"-box. Namely a Black Troll (Troll King?) and some Alahan wizard who is carried around by a Light Elemental (yay, second Tzeentch guy on disc).
Will try to make some photos today or tomorrow.

BTW, I use him http://sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop...painted_01.jpg as my lvl4 Tzeentch sorc. The base is 50 instead of 40mm but I don't really care as he looks rather impressive .

    Thanks for dropping by,
    Juggernaut

Re: The Damned 13th a WoC log

As the weather is nice I managed to make some ok(ish) photos:

They are still very WIP obviously but al least the movement trays are done apart from flocking.
I tried out a mix of sand and gypsum for the bases (same for the Marauders but they are in Nuremberg so no picts, sorry); not too impressed - it isn't the most stable basing in the world.
I doubt these will get painted to my usual standard mostly because I think the models are crap...a well, maybe they'll grow on me as the painting nears completion.

Harry/Wulfrik: I don't usually paint partly assembled minis but in Harry's case the space between the shield and the body was just large enough to take a peek but not large enough for a brush to fit in.
At least now I can drill holes for a pin...could have sworn I already did that.

The cape is the only thing already finished. You can't really see it on the picts but there is a nice purple shading between the scales.
He's going to get a very cartoon-like feel when he is done, even more so than the rest of the circus

    More in the next post,

Talking Re: The Damned 13th a WoC log

    And some more picts:

    Man, I L_O_V_E this model!
The guy isn't attached to the shield, yet. I need to do some gs fillings to make sure nothing comes apart here. The light familiar will represent a spell familiar in case I end up using him as a caster ( 5 spells > 4 spells ...); or he'll just be decoration if I use him as a combat character.

Nothig can say "bad ass" quite as well as a three meter long anchor applied to some poor sod's face
Not really sure I'll use him as Throgg...not a huge fan of special characters. He does look like a cool champion, though. Rule-of-cool and all that. And yes, I DO know that Trolls don't have champions in the rule book...

I did the bases for the rest of the unit as I was "intheflow" when I found the Black Troll box but I'll probably wait to the end of the year to actually buy them as they aren't very high on the list of priorities.

As a further note I'll use Minotaurs (the old GW metal ones I'll get from a friend / Rackham Minotaurs / Scibors awesome ones and maybe the 2 from Avatars of War) as counts as Ogres.
I would prefere Minotaurs to Ogres but GW , in its infinite wisdom, decided to split the chaos forces. GOOD JOB, GW!

    Stay tuned,
    Juggernaut

This looks very nice. I don't understand as well why there aren't any replies. For me it is the first time I see your PLOG. I love the Spawns and can't wait till the other 2 are placed here online.

    There is one burning question!
What did you use on the bases? (See purple thing on the Spawn bases)

Those spawn look awesome, Ive never been a fan of the spawn box but youve really worked some magic there, cant wait to see the next 2.

you hve a very nice and crisp painting technicque, really works well and your lighting effects on the sorcerer model (again one Ive not really been a fan of) have come out really well.

    keep it up

p.s those are Scibor ruins bases right on the trolls? they are mint.

Re: The Damned 13th a WoC log

    Aaaah, replies
I was starting to think I hit some privacy button or something.

Thanks for all the praise guys.
I'm going to need all the encouragement I'm going to get...painting whole units in a go isn't my prefered method of doing things and regiments are even more detrimental to my enthusiasm.
That's why I add color to a few regiments now and then while actually painting single minis first. You'll have to wait some time before one of the big regiments is done.

    @Wicked Dwarf:

To be honest I don't really know WHAT it is ( and I lost the lable). I got it from a shop that sells cheap arts&crafts supplies.
I THINK it is some thing growing on tree trunks...I did a search on Google and Wikipedia...hmmm...a type of bracket fungus would be my best guess.

    @StefM:
Yeah, I can echo the sentiment on the Spawns. I bought them because I thought the Helm of Many Eyes can still turn the bearer into a Spawn...guess how happy I was when I found out it doesn't any more.
But they grew on me while I was painting them; and I have some bits that are actually useful for conversions.

The other two will be represented by HellDorado minis (when I find them again ) as I think the Spawn box doesn't give you something disgusting enough for Nurgle or "beautiful" enough for Slaanesh.

    Nurgle:http://www.helldorado.fr/factions/le...hair/index.php
    Slaanesh:http://www.helldorado.fr/factions/le...ueil/index.php

As for the bases: jes, a mix of Scibor's elven and egyptian basing kits (which are awesome, btw) and a lot of Milliput, slate and sand. I'll probably sprinkle a few bits in here and there.

Re: The Damned 13th a WoC log

Very nice log. I must say I do like the tzeentch character on disc a lot. The troll is also a really cool model. Might have to try and find one of those for my orc army. The nurgle warrior look very nice so far as well. Keep up the great work man.
    The Man's Prayer
I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess.

I'm currently taking painting commissions and drawing commission at the moment.

It's most likely bracket fungus (ie. polyporaceae): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyporaceae

lol know exactly how it is, got my core Orc boys just splashed with the base colours because I cant stand the idea of painting em but needed them ready for tournies, love painting one by one, or if the models actually are nice (Boar boys )

That link for Nurgle instantly said human Centapede to me when I saw it and the Slaanesh one was kinda like That Robbie Williams music video.

I Like the nurgle one, the Slaanesh one was cool but not sure if I would use it as a spawn. its a bit far from the others and I feel would look too outta place.

May have to invest in some of those Scibor bases. just not sure what I'd use em for, they just look cool!

I think it all looks great. I'm thrilled to see some Rackham stuff here. Such great models. Your spawn look particularly good!

I feel your pain when it comes to units... I wish I could have an army of centerpieces... yes... that'd be glorious...

I love the texture on your bases, all a little different, but they all say "wasteland". The spawn almost look animated.

What is the model you used to hold up the disk character?
