Thread: Toms Youtube Battle Reports

they definitely have the tools to deal with them but death is not the best all-comers choice on a slann by any means. besides the only massively threatening spell to ogres is PSun (rune maw and great character stats keep them rather safe from the worst of the character snipes) and lizards would do well to be careful of throwing suns around. the banehead/death party toad is a good combo but not a no-brainer by any means.

out of curiosity, what lores was he running? light and metal maybe?

Dunno man doom & darkness and a well timed Steg charge ( yes I think stegs are awesome!!) could wreck some ogres- and spirit leach will always cut down some chars.

    Re: Toms Youtube Battle Reports

agreed on all counts except stegs... they are terrible lol. my point is that lore of death is good vs ogres but that doesn't mean the lizards auto-win. it is still quite plausible that tom walked away with a big win even if one of the slann as rocking death magic. wouldn't surprise me at all.

Hm Lizard-men are a very tough match up for Ogres. Maybe the Lizardman player didn't know how to handle the army.

He had a Death frog and a Light frog, but he only got 2 turns of casting (1 my scroll, 2nd I dice it away) before I'm into him and then he dies in 2 rounds of combat It wasn't the most serious of games though tbh, silly lists and lots of cider.

We were a bit limited by models, so it was fairly minimal skinks and a Stegadon to make up the points

It's not exactly a dream matchup for the lizardmen either. The last thing you want as a lizardmen player is an opponent that can smash into your temple guard and grind them down to nothing in a just a couple rounds of combat.

Temple Guard are pretty rare on the UK scene from what I gather, most people seem to have gone the double Slann route recently.

Bit of a shame to here about your work situation, been there and it's pretty lame. Interesting to hear about your experience with Ogres too.

We have a Tournament coming up this weekend in NZ, 40 players so huge for us, we have SCGT comp but with 500pt unit cap and a few minor tweaks, one charming Ogre player has taken 16 Ogres in a unit with 6 Characters. I hope I don't have to play him, it's a stupid list and I'm not worried about it smashing me, but that'd be a couple of hours of my life I'd never get back. Why anyone would run that is beyond me. My only worry is people actually try and fight it, and he gets some easy wins, I think if he finished well it would be a bad thing for our scene...

    Looking forward to more batreps!

Oh, and whilst I'm here with Warseers resident Wood Elf Maestro, I've been grudged by Wood Elves first round of the Tourney, Beasts mage, BSB, lots of Dryads, 60 Glade Guard, 2x4 Treekin, obligatory Eagles and 10 Waywatchers. So very like your lists.

I'm running 2 blocks of 20ish Warriors, one Halberds, one HW/S, 18 Tzeentch Chosen, 2 Warshrines, Shadow Lvl 4, BSB, Hounds, Lvl 1 Fire, 3 Trolls (The Knight Bus list and Stubborn Lord got comped out a bit )

Any quick advice or things I should watch out for? Aside from you battle reports I have only a few games experience against Woodies in 8th.

Also, thought you might like to know that out of 36 players there is 7 Wood Elves, the most represented race by far!

What a shame about Stu and the bus getting comped out...

Best bit of advice is to kill off his Waywatchers as quickly as possible with magic missiles so that Disco Stu and the bus is a bit safer. Other than that, full speed ahead and run at him- if you hang back vs Wood Elves, you lose more often than not- it's a pretty good match-up for you. Once the WWs are dead if he doesn't has Amber Spear you can risk running some of the characters outside of the units as it gives you more charges which is very very useful against MSU and forces him to spend more redirectors.

On a side note, if you run into John Willenbruch or Edward Brown tell them I say hi

Seeing as I'm playing Edward Brown in my first round grudge match (trying to chump bash no doubt!), I'll let him know!

John schooled me up with Brets last Tournament. Not a good move to forget to move a Warrior block with a Level 4 with it into a building when it's staring down 2 lances...

    Cheers for the tips!

They'll be useful all tournament. 7 Wood Elf players. They must be the new filth!

Most of them have silly things like 4 Characters, Wardancers and Warhawk Riders though. Expecting most of them to get battered. Average number of shots per Wood Elf army is 30ish IIRC.

Special mention to one chap who has a BSB with the HODA, but not other magic items. Good luck with firing them Arrows mate.

    *facepalm*

This of course does bring up the age old debate of, nowhere in the rulebook does it explicitly require you to have a bow in order to use an arrow (he throws them)...

I think the TO said he could change it or something. I like it, it's like in his haste to bandwagon the filthy Wood Elves he didn't even read the book properly

I'll admit, he'd be the manliest Elf ever if he just threw an arrow and killed a Chaos Knight.

    Re: Toms Youtube Battle Reports

Ok so, anyone who follows me on Twitter especially will know that at the moment I'm not really happy with the game- I dislike the metagame, I don't like the direction the game is going and overall I've lost my mojo a little bit. I really cannot get excited about more games at 2.4K (or thereabouts) pts under SCGT comp, which at the moment rules out almost every tournament in the UK for several weeks. Essentially, until someone comes up with a decent comp for Ogres (my own views tend to be seen as a little too harsh, but mainly by Ogre players), they will continue to give bad players wins they don't deserve and will continue to dominate the scene. Not really that fun. As a result I've done any more painting for months, and I've played just 2 games since Call to War. On the plus side, I've been getting back into my competitive Pokemon, which is good fun

However, I have a tournament lined up! I think that what I revive my enjoyment of the game is to play something a little bit different, so instead of going to Summer Incursion next weekend ( 5 games, 2.5K pts, SCGT comp, 100 odd players) and am instead going to Roll Call- a 5 game 1600pt, light comp tournament in Milton Keynes with just over 20 players going. I reckon this will be just what I need to get back into the game because I still enjoy most of the core rules and game mechanics, it's pretty much just the metagame that has put me off.

I'll be doing a video preview for the event early next week, but first up here's the comp (it's in the first post, it was copy and pasted which is why it's a bit jumbled together http://warhammer.org.uk/phpBB/viewto...?f=13&t=101318). On first glance, Lizardmen get off pretty lightly- no Lords hurts them a bit (but a Slann at 1600pts wouldn't even be worth playing against), but 2 Scar-Vets, 3 Salamanders and a skink cloud will still be pretty nasty- so, I think Lizardmen are the army to beat which means I have to be able to deal with chaff, Scar-Vets and Salamanders. Here's what I'm thinking:

1600 Pts - Wood Elves Roster - Roll Call Wood Elves 1.0

    Total Roster Cost: 1599

    Noble (1#, 115 pts)
    1 Wood Elf Noble
    1 Charmed Shield
    1 Dragonbane Gem
    1 Hail of Doom Arrow

    BSB (2#, 204 pts)
    1 Wood Elf Noble
    1 Great Eagle
    1 Warrior Bane
    1 Dragonhelm
    1 Amaranthine Brooch

    Dryads (8#, 96 pts)
    8 Dryads

    Dryads (8#, 96 pts)
    8 Dryads

    Glade Guard (16#, 220 pts)
    16 Glade Guard
    1 Banner of Eternal Flame

    Glade Guard (10#, 126 pts)
    10 Glade Guard

    Glade Guard (10#, 126 pts)
    10 Glade Guard

    Glade Guard (10#, 126 pts)
    10 Glade Guard

    Glade Guard (10#, 126 pts)
    10 Glade Guard

    Squad (1#, 50 pts)
    1 Great Eagle

    Squad (1#, 50 pts)
    1 Great Eagle, 50 pts

    Waywatchers (5#, 120 pts)
    5 Waywatchers

    Waywatchers (6#, 144 pts)
    6 Waywatchers

Dryads and BSB can hunt chaff and Salamanders, Waywatchers will keep the Scar-Vets and Peg heroes honest. Overall, I reckon it's a pretty solid list. What say ye?
