I thought you'd like the wings on the eagles, they need another coat of paint and a wash but they're close to being done!

Going with the Brooch over the Stone means that I can take on Mournfangs more easily. On average, he takes almost 1 wound per phase from them, and with the Stone that means he'd only last 1-2 phase but with the Brooch he can stay in longer. Same thing goes for light army fire, he can take a round and not be utterly scuppered, and it also means he can get in both the magic weapon and the Dragonhelm.

So call me, maybe?

I think sir against the Lizardman you should have kept an eagle near the waywatchers to redirect the mounted Scar Vet, giving your waywatchers another turn of shooting.

That's some rough draws. Some nice play, but once again (as with any game with wood elves) a small mistake costs the game. The getting what you did out of the ogre games was impressive.

That knight bus is horrific at 1600 points. That banner just meant it was a no contest.

I definitely made some silly errors over the tournament, fortunately none of them cost me too badly. For the most part I think they were down to me not playing many games recently, but I've got my mojo back a bit so I should be playing more games at higher points levels again before too long.

It also had never occurred to me to single rank dryads to avoid running off the board. I think I'll steal that one. Went against a knight bus myself on Saturday. Although I must say Frank (My Loren Lord) came out on tops. Treekin managed to hold up a unit of warriors for 3 whole turns which involved having to pass two insane courage break tests.

Making the noble on eagle a BSB seems to just give away an additional 100 vp unnecessarily in my opinion. While it's sweet to have rerolls where you need them, 100 vp is 1 TP

I'm toying with a Tolworth list and I'm going to try something very different. Mind having a look at them for me Tom?

The re-rolls on Tarquin were ace, as was the extra point of combat res. I reckon in order to work best he needs to be the BSB, but I reckon there's some legs in the non-BSB version. I think I said on Twitter that I wanted to try out a WE RAF with a BSB on foot.

Just checking out stormlords in Bristol (6/7 October) here is a lovely line in the comp 'If a second Ironblaster is taken, Mornfang Units become a 0-2 unit selection per army'

It's the new SCGT comp isn't it? I'm in the middle of writing an alternate rules pack for him to look at using, as I hate the SCGT comp pack- all that will happen is that OK players will turn up with 5 Mournfangs with Dragonhide banner, 4 Mournfangs and 2 Ironblasters

For me, the following is the bare minimum comp for Ogres- 0-6 Mournfangs, Dragonhide Banner may not be taken on Mournfangs, no Standard of Discipline/Crown of Command, 0-1 Ironblaster

Either way, that's the weekend after my contract finishes (if all goes to plan) so I am very keen to go

I prefer your comp for Ogres, that's for sure. 3 units of 2 Mournfang is my way of playing them (though I have become generally disillusioned with the army) and personally it is more flexible, disposable and less point and click. It is still a dull army to play, though. Hopefully 3 Stonehorns will add some fun to the army... Meandering thoughts aside, thanks for the continually excellent battle reports.

Alrighty, so it's tournament time chaps and chapesses!

Wasn't sure if I'd be attending or not, but long story short I will be. It's a 1 day, 3 game light comp event this Saturday in Tolworth in South London with a field of 40 players. Full comp pack can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...wA0rn7oVU/edit

First thoughts:

1. It would appear comping Ogres is over-rated rather than kick up a fuss in the thread on TWF I emailed the TO about this because imo Ogres currently make the game almost unplayable in a competitive environment, given that a lot of games become a very uphill struggle in the Purchase Models Phase. Long story short, he's not really a fan of comp in general and said that he was more worried about Empire/VC slipping through the cracks and admitted he dropped the ball a bit which is fair enough, not every likes comp or agrees with it as much as I do.

2. Zomgwtfbanelings I get the bow for my BSB and the option to take a shield if I really want. FILTH. I simply cannot lose now.

3. The scoring system is another thing I asked him about, needing to win by 2100pts for a 20-0 in a 2400pt tournament is downright weird. Again, he says that it has worked for his local group so fair enough (if faintly flawed as I will come onto below), but every major UK tournament needs just 1500pts for a reason.

4. Book of Hoeth is banned in a light comp environment. This made me giggle a bit I have to say.

5. Overall, the field is pretty dominated by Ogre players, maybe 20-25%. However, the field reflects this being a small one day event run at a gaming club with a mediocre-to-poor comp pack- there are maybe a dozen people on the overall list I know of, and maybe half of them I would be worried about playing, so it's not really a big fish event. That said, just because I don't know someone doesn't mean they're no good, it just means they're not a regular tournament player. (/arrogance)

All in all, it's not the best event and it's certainly not one I would travel far at attend. However, there are precious few tournaments, one day or otherwise, in and around London so I can't be too picky when it comes to attending them, and I also play precious few games at the moment so it'll be nice to get my toys out again and try an experimental list. The original plan was to take a dragon and 2 Treemen, but I won't have a suitable dragon painted up in time so I'm instead taking a 1.0 list designed to face Ogres:

Highborn- Bow of Loren, Charmed Shield, Dragonbane Gem, Arcane Bodkins

Beasts level 4- Dispel Scroll, Moonstone (which I will absolutely forget to use)

BSB- Dragonhelm, Hail of Doom Arrow

14 gg, full command, musician

5x10 gg, musicians

2x8 Dryads

2x5 Glade Riders with musicians (idea being that they tag team a unit of Mournfangs and keep it out of the entire game by double fleeing. They kill nothing and they're more expensive than 10 Glade Guard for half as many shots that can never get S4, but they're fast cavalry which makes them decent for redirecting. Not sure how well they will do, but this is why we play practice games)

6 Wardancers with champion (didn't want to take these but I ended up with around 130pts left over that I couldn't otherwise spend as I was already maxed out on 90 shots. I wasn't sure whether to go with 7 or 6 with a champion, especially as conga-lines are banned. In the end I went with 6 with champion, as it's more attacks on a smaller frontage for character assassination runs and just beecause I can't go 1 wide in a forest with a champion at the front doesn't mean I can't go 6 wide in a forest with the champion on the flank . 7 may well become my 1.1 edit)

2 Eagles

2x5 waywatchers (dropping down from 6s because of the shot cap, also with the Lorenlord their burden is slightly lifted)

So that's the list, for better or for worse. Preview will be coming up shortly on the channel, as always I'm aiming to win the event, hoping for a podium and expecting a top third finish.

Your list looks solid, but how are you planning to deal with the inevitable third unit of Mournfangs when you have already spent your glade riders to redirect and your eagles have been shot down by the inevitable two ironblasters? On the other hand, your BSB gets a bow for free, so that pretty much makes up for it.

Just keep fleeing. 2 units of Glade Riders can take 1 unit of Mournfangs out for a while, as long as I keep them bouncing to safety. It's a horrible match-up for MSU, but I am determined to make up for it by just becoming a good enough player that army imbalance doesn't matter.

The further forwards I go in the first couple of turns will have a big effect on how many turns of fleeing I get before I'm in danger of going off the board, so if I can rush 10" forwards before I have to start backing off I will have a good bit of space to flee back into and bounce through some Dryads.

Also, many Ogre players are idiots that leave their Sabretusks within 6" of their Mournfangs/Gutstar. It makes me weep to see such bad play, but I will absolutely take advantage of it
