Monstrous Cavalry reaaaallly needs to be 0-1.

Same with the Cheese-Blaster

Why did they not let the Hunter join units and be the army general while they were at it.

The worst thing about the Ogre book is that it is 8th and we are going to be stuck with that cheese for a long time. It's sure going to be fun (assuming GW keep balancing all the non-ogre books) playing the next 3 years or so and seeing 25%+ ogres at every tournament.

I really think the best comp for Ogres is removing the Banner of Discipline/Crown of Command, making the Tyrant-Slaughtermaster choice an actual choice. Then you make Ironguts special. Core bulls are good - I've used them regularly - but they aren't so simple to use as the S4 makes them significantly less reliable. It promotes genuine decision making!

I agree with banning Standard of Discipline and Crown. I don't know about moving Ironguts to special, but I would definitely move Mournfangs to rare. Maybe swap them a Scraplauncher, in the interests of maintaining the number of choices in each.

Put the big monsters in special as well- since they are more vulnerable than the Mournfang.

I'm becoming more and more okay with Mournfangs and Demigryphs changing the meta - I just hope it doesn't stop there. I hate to have to tailor a list against 1 or 2 books in case I fight them. So I guess I'm hoping that at least 1-2 more books for 8th gets some decent high armor, high damage, ergo high priority stuff that means taking a metal wizard, or ignore armor save items/spells isn't so much of a rock/paper/scissors thing.

I played you 3rd game at Tolworth on Saturday with Empire.

One of my clubmates mentioned you do reports on here so thought I'd drop in to say thanks for a good game and I'm interested to see what you thought I did wrong seeing as you smashed me!!!

Hi Jim, thanks for the game. I'll go into a bit more depth when I do the battle report (having an issue getting the pictures off my mobile at the moment), but there were a few things that I felt worked against you.

1. You deployed a little bit too far off to one side with the knights in one corner and then the furthest unit in the centre of the board which basically allows me to deploy all my points on the other side of the board (I did exactly the same thing in game 1 vs the VC knight bus). Looking at your list, there were 2 things that really worried me- the Knights, and the War Altar as the 2 can be quite hard to bring down. Putting the knights down in a corner made it a lot easier for me to redirect them and feed them chaff without having to really worry about them, and instead focus on the T3 lightly armoured infantry that Glade Guard love playing against. In hindsight, I think a better idea would've been to deploy the knights directly in the centre of the boar because it forces me to deal with them and makes it a lot easier to you to get to grips with me.

2. You did the right thing by running at me (without templates it's hard to win a ranged game vs WE), but I think you could've been a lot more aggressive with the War Altar. The combat buffs it provides are nice, but you don't really need them in order to beat my units in combat. Putting it on your 12" line and running it at me would've forced me to deal with it and not just focus on your infantry, but keeping it behind your army meant I was able to ignore it all game until there was not much else to shoot at.

3. If you put a unit in a building, remember they're there!

That's everything off the top of my head, as I said I'll try and do some more analysis when I do the battle report itself. Thanks again for the game

I kinda see why ETC limits the core choice-but I think 60 shots and 4x same core choice would be better for WE.
Wonder why ETC clamps down on WE so much but has not bother Ogres that much.

Because alot of people play ogres and not many people play woodies.

Also ETC seem to want people to just line up blocks and smash them in the middle of the table, they dont like the whole 'I redirected you and shot/magic you before you could get to me' sort of play.

I dislike the ETC pack, mostly because it is too complicated, but I would absolutely, vehemently disagree that there intention is to do that.

Thanks for the reports, Tom, do you think that you will be doing a summary video? What's up next? Any hobby stuff in the pipeline?

You know what ?
Dryads to front of a Brit lance unit without characters + a curse of Anrehier can really hold their own with a BSB reroll around because the knights will never get enough hits in (the mounts of course-but mounts are always the best part of Calvary.)

Just a thought.

Ok so, no idea when my next tournament is as I've just started a new job which is going to be pretty intense timewise for the next couple of months. If it all goes to plan, I'll be doing several in October/November.

In the meantime, there is a Universal Battle tournament being run on TWF. 2500pts using "the Swedish comp" as it is called in the UK (which can be found here http://forum.sverok.se/download/file.php?id=2959), I will be using my Wood Elves of course. Lists have to be scored from 10-15 to be used in the event, and it's open lists. My list scores a 10, because I'm a dirty dirty filthmonger.

Would there be any interest in me recording the games, along with some commentary, and then uploading them to Youtube? My plan would be to break them down in turn sections, as the games are quite a bit longer, so 20-30 minute chunks would be my aim. Alternatively, or in addition to that, I could do written reports on here or give notice as to when I'm about to play and then stream the games on twitch.tv.

Anyone got any thoughts on the matter?
