Ok so, my first UB tournament game is arranged for around 1630 GMT today although my opponent may be running a little bit late.

I'll be getting my stream up and running at 1530 so sort out audio levels and so on, it'll be at justin.tv/tmarichards. Then I'll do a list preview as I've not done one yet, and then hopefully the game will start around 1630.

I've never run a stream before (I spent a fair bit of time yesterday making sure it's all running smoothly, but this will be my first proper run), so it could be a bit rough around the edges but please bear with me. Also, follow me on Twitter @tmarichards for more updates.

I was challenged to a UB game but I can't seem to get the thing to work. The main screen isn't loading for me other than the tool bar.

I would be interested in hearing how you like using it so I know if it's worth my time trying to get it to work.

It's not as good as a physical game, you have to be aware of that going in- it's much harder to judge distances, the movement is a lot less precise and because of the method of communication (typing in a chat as opposed to talking to someone) it's a bit harder to communicate clearly (this is why I like using Skype). The games also take a fair bit longer because of the interface.

That said, I still think it's a great program for what it is- which is, a free program that lets you play Warhammer against people from anywhere in the world, at any time, from the comfort of your own room with whatever army and whatever list you like. You can pay for a "Pro" account (the lifetime account is just under £20, so around US$30 I think) in which case you can customise your own army and create maps and so on, which is nice but not essential.

I would absolutely recommend trying to get it to work, it's well worth it overall.

Ok, so my work contract is coming to and end earlier than expected which means I will be playing a tournament this month!

Points of note- I really like how the comp score is being handled on this one. Minimum of 2, no maximum limit and at the end of the event your comp score is added on again for each game you played (here the upper limit is capped at 10 so it doesn't get too out of control). This is ace for me, as it means I can take my decent Swedish comp list that I've been using on Universal Battle a lot which has a comp score of 10, so regardless of how my games go at the end of the event I will get an extra 50 points added on, if someone brings the dirtiest list they can they will get 10 points added on.

I'm rather surprised that you haven't tried out the ++3 Ward Save Dragon rider (and tree friends) list yet, it may not be as competitive and larger scope to get more wins, but it has a greater ability to get larger wins from what I understand.

Tom, I played at the last Brighton Warlord's event (and was on table 1 last game before getting thumped ), keep an eye out for James Henley's Dwarf army, it's stunning.

Also - while I can see the reason for 4 fast cav units over the 8 Treekin, doesn't this change hurt the army against Skaven /Dark Elves/O&G etc? ie Armies that can destroy chaff with almost no effort, yet without magical support struggle vs Treekin in combat

You find Warhawk riders to be worth it? Especially over a unit of 6 treekin?

Yes, because whereas the Treekin will die to just about anything that runs into them, Warhawks can double flee, rally the next turn and then move back to do it again.

As long as I play a very tight game, the Warhawks have actually been pretty useful- I've had a couple of weird games where my opponent is only 6-8" away from my army for 3-4 turns but can't actually get to grips with anything because the hawks can flee through my glade guard, rally and then fly back over to do the same thing again. The Highborn helps out a lot here, as the ld10 re-rollable is quite a bit better than the ld9 re-rollable when I'm taking 4-5 ld tests a turn.

I wouldn't say they're good, but I'm finding them better suited to my playstyle than Treekin.

Also i think warhawks are actually better point denial than big ol' tough treekin and anything fleeing can be double pushed off the board with charges.

Just came back from a tourny with 33 people- 4/5 ogres.

I hate BRB scenarios in tournies- i got screwed over by dawn attack ( I heard some TK players got messed up bad by it too ) & blood & glory put a warrior blocks up on my grill ASAP with no room to redirect for more than 2 turns.
