Really like what you're doing with your Nid conversions - especially taking the time to give your Termagants more variety. Out of the blister, that Tyrant Guard model is one of the most boring. Great job there.

I share your temptation to get side-tracked by other hobby projects.

OK the: Respect espescially for the tyrant guard! In a unit of three its always nice to have three different looking models, I'm sure you'll achieve an impressive unit!

Those orky stuff turns out great, too

Re: xedric is back with nids!

Thanks Avatar of the Eldar and harlekin for the comments!!

A little progress on the kan and guard:

I picked up the idea from andyg2006 and made a small door on the side of the rokkit box. I imagine that eventually the box needs to be refilled with rokkits hence the door. If I can get my hands on a grot he will hang on the door somehow.

The CC arm is almost finished and I got 4 of 6 rokkits in the box. The last two are curing over night and will be added tomorrow. The kan is almost done! Just some more detailing with wires, rivets, jaw etc.

And to prove that I am crazy: I cut up yet another joint on the tyrant guard! The fifth joint I cut up… This time I was a little smarter though and didn’t cut all the way through. Leaving a little piece of the joint made it easy to repose the arm and sculp up the joint.

All that is left on the guard is the whip before I can start painting it…

Re: xedric is back with nids!

Time for update! Here is some more on the kans. The design for all three wheel-kans feels almost done. Two photos of the third kan (which actually is the first…).

This is the largest wheel so Im using one pair of legs from the kit that I think fits well. I like these legs but not as walker legs. They fit better with a wheel. These legs will be attached to the underside of the kan body. Ill remove the joint they are supposed to attach to.

Since Im using one pair of legs from the kit on one of the wheel kans I need to scratch build a pair of legs for one of the three grotzoka kans. My idea atm is a pair of miniature warhound legs since I really like their design. Thoughts?

The box-of-rokkits-kan (that almost sounds like a name?) has a first thin base coat of color. Early early PIP which shows the details a little better than the un-primed kan.

Lets end with a random concept art sketch. Counts as stormboyz? Born from watching too many threads of awesome DE that is literally flyin around this forum. I bought a box of boyz in case I wanted to build a flyer like this. A side project to my side project?

    Comments and comments appreciated!

Re: xedric is back with nids!

Many many many thanks for the kind comments!

Tonight is just a small guard update. I added some more magic sculp on the lash whip. Once it sets I will sand it to perfection and also add a claw at the end. All that remains to do then is some detailing on the handle of the whip.

The three bits lying there next to the wip whip are there so I can ask you guys which claw I should use at the end of the whip? Big, medium or small? Im leaning towards big atm.

The reposed talon arm was glued in to place and some sculping done to fix the shoulder plate and body line up. All posing is now done and next is to finish the base by sanding it. Will also try the new structure paste my wife bought me.

A few more goes at this and I should be ready to give it the base coat. Im looking forward to painting him! After him it’s time for warriors methinks…

    Comments much appreciated!

Re: xedric is back with nids!

For the 'legless' kan, how about a single leg to make it hop around -echoing the monowheel- but it's like a pogo stick with shock absorbers/springs (guitar strings?) along the sides...or maybe it's just one huge spring...with a big stompy boot on the end of it? If you have a spare landspeeder front (or just anything to make a good-sized wedge shape out of), it might make something suitably impressive to "give dose 'umies a good kickin wiv"?

Alternatively, perhaps you can make a set of legs out of circular/square/flat plasticard tubing (or just bits of sprues) -and tankwheels if you have any- to resemble Marine Dreadnought legs to give the impression that the Orks tore them off an enemy Dread to kill it, then looted the bitz and just welded them onto their own one?

Old Ork bioniks had a set of telescopic legs for the boyz. To represent the galaxy-renowned "shoddy Ork technology", how about a set of these and the Kan is jumping forwards in it's enthusiasm, attached to the base by one foot and the other leg is raised in a sort of jumping/running pose, but the raised leg has loads of wires sticking out the bottom, and it's foot is still on the base -more wires protruding out of the top- behind it?

Or perhaps something like a "squig-sled-leg" where there's a snowmobile-type skid underneath the body and the dread close combat weapon arm is holding various chains with squigs on the end pulling him along?

I always liked cyboars, so maybe a Kan-Cyboar-Centaur using something like a suitably-sized kid's toy animal (elephant?) as the base for the hind quarters?

(I'm a bit tired, so these might not make much sense and could now be bordering on 'silly ideas', so please bear with me).

Re: xedric is back with nids!

Brilliant ideas andyg2006! Not sure when and how I'll be using these but they are just brilliant. Many thanks!

The squig-sled idea put an image in my head of a "counts as warboss on bike" conversion that might see the light of day one day. But mechanical squigs to fit with the fluff of my army to be.

As for the leg-less-kan Im planning to scratch build miniature versions of warhound legs since the orks once fought such a machine and my big mek just loved its size and killiness so he copied the legs for one of his kans. The shoulders and gun mounts will also mimic the warhound. Thats the current idea at least

Yea its absolutely amazing. Its a bit of a trick to learn what bits you can copy and how to make good molds. Its a bit of a learning process but good fun. Expect more photos of more cast bits!
