Starting Mordheim for the first time with Empire; I'm a bit lost.

    Hello chaps,
There's another Mordheim campaign starting up at the local club and I wanted to jump aboard using my old Empire models. I was thinking Pit Fighters would be fun but I reckon I'd be bothered by a lack of shooting, particularly as there's an Elf player that likes to revert to camping with longbows when threatened.

So I was thinking a nice, all round Empire force would be cool, with a good mix of shooting and close combat. I'm not sure what province would be good to choose? Marienburg seems a good all rounder, giving me some extra bodies at the opening stages of the campaign (though I could go several marksmen in my opening list and take Reikland), but what of Averland, Ostland and any other later additions?

    1. Averland is great if you want halflings, or if you already have a Mountain Guard army.
    2. Ostland is great for those with alot of freecompany models and ogres. Play these guys if you want the country bumpkin feel, as that is what GW was going for with them.
    3. Most empire models won't fit in well with pit fighters...personally, I'd suggest going with Reikland if you want to focus more on shooting, or Marienburg if your models look more flashy.

I'd suggest going with Reiklanders. The extra +1 BS and +6'' leadership bubble will stay useful. The 100gc and +2 on rarity searches from Marienburg won't stay as useful, even though it will give a slight advantage early on.

And one last piece of advice, don't buy handguns. Go with crossbows or longbows, as only firing every other turn is just too much of a detriment.

I reckon I'll go with Reikland based on what you said, but I have got some marauder and Catachan parts that I can use to convert pit fighters. I'm also reasonable enough with green stuff, but Reikland should be a good fun and balanced force for a first go at the game.

Having seen this warband, I'm not sure how I'd improve it. I like it for a starter. The champions could do with swords after the first game.

Pitfighters are a difficult warband to start with due to the restrictions. I'd go with a Riekland/Marineburg warband to start and get some experience with the game.

That list looks pretty good to start but have a go with trying different things and find what suits you.

Just remember, that board needs 75% or more terrain covering

Fellowship, the fourth myth of reality: As the tides of war shift, so do loyalties.
Trust, the fifth myth of reality: Every truth holds the seed of betrayal.
