Pirates are indeed the thing. Not going to link to it, but Michael Bolton makes for a sweet pirate in one of Lonely Island's new music videos...

I also found the original plog for the pirate ogres - I purchased them from Wathier some time time ago and you can see his original progress here:

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

Very long summer, no plog. I don't think I've managed to finish any miniatures from scratch during the summer but I did finish up a unit of bestigors I bought off of somebody over at the Herdstone.

And just this weekend I managed to finish the new cockatrice (painted by me) and a great taurus I bought off of Third Eye Nuke studios on ebay.

I'll start with the taurus - I wasn't that fond of the eyes or the mouth so I've reworked those, and I've also applied some khaki/graveyard earth drybrush to select areas, including the hoofs. Now I think it looks like it could be that fiery, practically ashen beast described in the SoM book.

    Pics ahoy!

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

I hate the cloudy weather here in Scandinavia. Worst summer ever.

Anyway, here's the cockatrice. Pretty simple approach - skin tones and dark wash for the skin and wings. Scales and body hair were just drybrush layers of dark blue and grey washed with black and then re-highlighted.

The feathers I felt, deserved something more, so I painted them in a suitably earthen earth colour and highlighted up to khaki and white with khaki lines in the centre.

To get that "magic" feeling the GW Cockatrice colour scheme gives off I then painted the eyes purple.

I wanted the miniature to look like a crow or small bird common around these neck of the woods so black/brown and yellow were the colours of choice and I think I pulled it off quite well TBH. More crow/raven than chicken.

And you can't really tell but in the torn parts of the wings there's a load of red wash to give that fresh battlefield sheen.

Dear jesus these pics are dark. I probably need to change the camera settings...

Right, first post updated! Next up are the FW Chaos Trolls and some Daemonic Unit fillers!

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

Thanks guys! I'll see about clearing time from my busy schedule to reshoot some pictures of the Cockatrice. The great taurus is very dark anyway so I don't think it makes much of a difference for it really...

But I'm real happy about making the cockatrice look like a relative of a giant grey crow.

I got started on the Dark Emissary yesterday, will take some pictures along with the cockatrice later, but today's my birthday so I don't know if I'll manage to find the time..

I need some input on what to do with the runes on the emissary's cloak though - right now I'm aiming for the brown (slightly more reddish) on the emissary on GW's site: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/ca...d=prod1190042a

The part of the cloak that's at the bottom of the mini will be a dirtied purple and the remaining clothes on the body roughly the same khaki shade whilst the mask on the head will be a light toned grey or something like that.

I plan on painting it with all the basic colours and maybe a highlight or two and then giving it a wash of Vallejo muddy browny ink that'll end up in the recesses as opposed to shade the entire model like the GW washes do...

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

Right, by accident I've stumbled onto a cache of FW stuff. It's night here as you can tell by the pictures, but I've been working away anyway at this - my nighttime job. But now I need to get some sleep so I can proceed to my daytime job. .

I really like the plaguetoads. That must be why I suddenyl find myself in possession of 6 of them.

As you can tell, hell will freeze over before they ever rank up. I've magnetized them to the bases and the plaguebearers as well. I did this so I could at some point use them in 40k and the toads without the riders for storm of magic.

The magnets are quite big, but I don't care. they'll look at least halfway natural on a nurgle painted when it's painted.

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

    And another:

It appears I also got 2 Blood slaughterers. One standard and one Impaler. I can't be bothered to convert them really, so I'll paint them in metals and green, just like my soulgrinders. I'll spend some extra time on the eyes and cables though - two areas where I don't think the FW paintjobs really do the models justice:

And then there's the blight drone. Apparently they don't come with a base? Anyway, easy model to assemble, but there's no way I'm gonna bother replacing all the flash areas around the cables, and I figure the dip will cover it up pretty substantially. Lots of opportunities for improving the paintjob on the weapons compared to the FW version. Really nice model. Looking forward to assembling the second one. It came with a pre-drilled hole, so I just stuck it onto a dreadnought base with an iron nail.

Anyone got a plastic dreadnought base to spare BTW?

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

You can't really see much, because they're undercoated, but these are the FW Bile Trolls. They'll be painted in the same colour scheme as my forest trolls (have I posted pictures of them btw?).

And here's something I got in the mail from a nice Warseerite in Gibraltar the other day, 2 plague ogres:

I just like the models. They're really quite nice, but I don't know what skintone I'm gonna go for.

I've also been working on a proper Dark Emissary, he's just been given the basic paintjob so far with no highlights as I intend to paint all the base colours with a few highlights and then give him a wash, possibly with ink.

I just realized that I don't seem to have a picture of the guy I'm currently using as a Dark Emissary. Will have to snap one of those tomorrow. Cheers, and nighty-night for now!

Ok, finished another Slaughterer w the impaler and a blight drone tonight. Still need to find anothet dreadnought base though.

I'm thinking about assembling my other Nurgle FW dread tomorrow evening, I just hope I didn't use up the base for it for the other blight drone...

Aaaand now it's off to bed since I've gotta catch an early flight to Norway tomorrow...

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

A month since my last update and I've yet to finish any of the FW stuff above. I have however had time to finish my Dark Emissary and have just taken some pictures.

He performed amiably in 2 out of 3 games yesterday and was unfortunately undone by a Dark Elf Dreadlord in one of them (the bestigors cut him down in turn and ran the rest of the spear-wielding elves off the board of course) but came back with a bang against a cheesy empire list where he held his ground in the magic phase against a Lvl 4 life mage and boosted my free-roaming Doombull and his own Bestigor unit (which chewed through 2 cannons and a War Altar whilst the Doombull was grinding down (even though he lost practically every turn) a unit of Swordsmen whilst having a Steam Tank in his side until he broke the swordsmen. Unfortunately he failed his last armour save in our final turn.) throughout the game which ended in a draw.

    I performed thus:

0-20 vs Lizardmen (I've faced the list before and I really, really hate it)
    13-7 vs Dark Elves
    10-10 vs Empire

This is a list I'll be refining and then bringing to an upcoming team tournament in November.

I need to prep the beastmen some for the tournament, so I've got 2 chaos spawns that I'll be rebasing on 50mm for use as Razorgor and I've just constructed 2 5x10 movement trays for my bestigors and gors and rebased 10 ungor raiders on 20mm bases. Gonna do some touch-ups on their paintjobs next actually along with the movement trays.

    Pictures!

I wanted the miniature to have some vibrant areas and not just shades of brown, thus the blue hood and some colour spots on his charms and coat. I think he'll be serving as the mage-general in the upcoming tournament.

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

And lastly for today I managed to score myself some old Eldar Cruisers/Escorts from the Space Fleet game. I just did some touch-ups on them and gave them a coat of matte varnish, but I really like the bright colours. I'm also working on a Blackstone Fortress for BFG and looking for some Dark Eldar vessels in order to build a 2nd fleet to face my Chaos one.

    Scouts and movement trays next...
