Thanks! Gonna pop over and see what you've been up to now...
Thanks! If not then I'll try to take some pictures this weekend. I'm thinking I ought to make a habit of doing so, since I can't seem to find any army shots for example of my wood elves. I should probably get a setup ready on saturday and take pictures of the entire thing and then unit by unit. I think that'd be interesting for folks to see since I've got some big units - like 20 or so trolls and so forth...
Thank you! Generally speaking I've found the 40k nurgle models to be better than the fantasy ones (though the plague ogres, Kayzk and Tamurkhan are all good). The trolls had some good details on them, but could've had more maggots and icons on them. Since I realized that the most interesting parts would be those that differentiate from the skin tone I decided to opt for strong contrast colours for those details like gold, pale skin, etc.
Since I didn't paint the base work on Kayzk myself I can't speak for his beast, but the way I see it the beast suffers from the same issue as the trolls when it comes to the skin areas not being particularly interesting. I think they could've sculpted a better rot beast TBH, or at least added some interesting/contrasting armour plating to it.
Kayzk himself was pretty clearly defined and has loads of details such as maggots, flies, pouches and tentacles. I highly recommend the model.
Thank you! It's always tough getting the flesh right, but it lends itself very well to experimentation. For the plague ogres I've started with an ogryn flesh over a white basecoat, and I'm now trying out washing different areas with green, purple and red before giving the skin a drubrush highlight.
