Fast morning snapshot - I also started applying a final drybrush highlight of rotting flesh across the entire miniature. Not regretting it.

Much nicer with the rotting flesh applied, wouldn't you agree? Sone with the skin now, starting on the details.

She looks quite scary to paint, I can see why she's taking such time. I'm sure it will end up looking great.![]()
Both the Toad Dragon and the Chaos Dwarves are coming along really well! Like the blue shields, gives them some contrast. Oh, and I'm sure "Uff-Da!" is "OFTA!" and they are just using it at kind inappropriate times...
"Yeah, my mom died last week..:"
"OFTA!"
Cheers,

Scary's the word. Always afraid I'm gonna get a tounge-lashing (literally) when playing Diablo 3.
*Lickety-split*
"AAARGH MY HAND!!!"
I'm hoping it will work even if I don't paint the belly or scales in another colour. I think it looks nicer painted in my style in a way than with airbrushing - because airbrushing leaves more of a coverage over complete areas, whereas this thick drybrushing builds up layers you can see through. Still wish I could find the inspiration to add a colour or two. I can't think of anything other than yellow/beige but I don't care for the prospect of it as I don't think it would add very much character to the model at this point, with there already being yellow contrast from some of the buboes, and beige highlights on the ground and very soon bones and claws.
Heh, that's my kind of black humour... but it doesn't make any sense if you'd try to translate it into English. For the english-speaking audience that would literally translate into "OFTEN" but is used in a context that more or less amounts to "YOU'RE TRYING TO KID ME!".
Also works in all three Scandinavian languages though.
And thanks for the feedback!

love what you've done with the Toad Dragon. The base is very good! Is there going to be some putrid water effects added in too?

This conversations reminds of my friend Mailn in College, we asked her to teach us some Swedish words and she gave us a derogitory term for Danes. Roughly translated as "Danish son of a B1tch type person". The next day we saw our Danish Friend walking out side the window and shouted it at him. He came over and said "Who taught you that!" , smiling of course, He had some choice descriptions for Swedes to offer..
On topic...Toad dragon is coming along great.. The base is just Fantastic! Is it just me or does the upper part of the sculpted face look similar to oogy boogy from nightmare before christmas?

Thanks! I hope you still think so! (pic below)
Yup. I figure I'll add a few drops after varnishing the entire thing. I don't have any water effects though... I hope some heavily diluted PVA with a drop of gloss paint will do the trick...
The base is something like... 155x160 mm... The thing is huge in warhammer terms, easily the size of a WHFB regiment. I'd say it's actually a bit larger than the FW GUO, which I also have in my cabinet. Not as tall though, and the tail is a bit in the way unfortunately, but it sure looks wicked!
You should definitively visit Denmark (just so long as you remember to visit Sweden as well)!
Danskjävlar? Svenskjävlar? We have a saying that roughly means that "A loved child goes by many names", and I think the "brother people" as we are wont to call one another also must have tons of love for each other!
I can see it in front of me now... the sculptor drinking red wine on a friday, eating crisps and watching nightmare before christmas whilst trying to sculpt a draogn...
In other news, the "bones" are now finished, soon just details to go! The contrasts really make him look great, I tihnk:

lol, the first one. She said there was a TV show where one of the charector shouts it during the intro.
The Bones looks really good. It really does contrast well and adds definition to the whole piece. Are you going to paint the scales a particular pattern ( round things, I think they are scales..)

Oh, Lars Von Trier's "Riget" - or better known to you people as "Kingdom Hospital" when Stephen King did a re-take on it (though "Kingdom Hospital" is pretty much aversion of the original).
So far I've only thought of keeping the scales as they are right now - I can't think of a good contrast colour that wouldn't ruin the piece TBH. I also can't seem to find any pictures of animal that have scales which are a different colour to their skin? It seems to be like scaled animals either:
A) Have coloured patterns covering both skin and scales
or
B) Have scales and skin in the same colour
Any suggestions on colours I could try out would be appreciated!

I was thinking the same thing, it's hard to think of something that would not look odd. If anything something subtle like a tad darker green. You might try to make them slightly iridescent like with a light metallic/purple wash over part of the scales. Maybe, multiple little yellow dots on each one might work too. I think I've seen some toads like that. That all sounds like a lot of work though, lol

In the end I decided to go with it. As I was sitting down to finish the thing yesterday I found a picture of one where they'd just opted for making the scales a darker shade of green compared to the skin. I felt ever so slightly compelled to do it as well, but IMO it really didn't make the miniature stand out any more, so I decided against it. Plus, y'know, I'm lazy. There's like 100 individual scales on the thing.
For your viewing pleasure - it's DONE! Haven't had time to add the gloss varnish, will do that today, but I think it'll be more interesting to look at for you guys without the gloss varnish in any case as I believe the photos won't show details as well w. the gloss varnish applied. But like I said, I'll apply it after work and gym session this evening.
Give us a kiss, won't you?
Instead of doing anything more on the body (really, the blood, pus and bone-coloured scales are enough to make it stand out IMO) I did some additional work on the mouth with some yellow glazing, purple wash and skin re-highlight on the worms. No blood though.
I like big butts and I cannot lie:
Still got Tamurkhan himself to finish, but after this it's actually the summer project - the chaos dwarves, with the bale taurus next in line! LMK if you'd like photos of any other angles or such.

Sooo... I just dipped a Bale Taurus.
A few observations:
1. You always use too much dip. Don't.
2. Large miniatures with complex poses should be dipped in stages.
3. Don't dip when it's warm and don't do it under a strong lamp.
4. It will look better in the morning. It will look even greater once you've given it a coat of matte varnish.

Finished the Bale Taurus and Drazhoath today, as you can see in my previous post I made some mistakes since I haven't been using the stuff in a while, resulting in air bubbles in the dip and some clogging. With some quick thinking I solved this by adding some snow flock over the clogged areas and painting the air bubbles as wounds leaking the molten metal for which the taurus is famed.
The paintjob on the miniature was already started when I got it, otherwise I'd used brighter colours, but I think it'll look good in the army nonetheless, in spite of the overdipping. The miniature did look terrible before the dip was applied though, and terrible afterwards, somewhat better this morning and finally rather good when the varnish had been applied.
Such is ever tye way of dipping - it transforms horrible paintjobs into beauty.
Enough talk:
Not too fond of the wings though...

This looks fantastic, I would be freaked out dipping such a large finely detailed model. Turned out great. I need to start gluing mine together..,
