Wow, great toad dragon such detail and extremely well painted. I like the natural colours you chose.
That bale Taurus looks good, but I really like the aged look of Drazhoath's face. Not a fan of the beard though, I hope Forgeworld step up on that with regular dwarfs for their upcoming book.

I have never tried this dipping, but in my understanding it is an extreme form of washing?

Thanks! Speaking of large models, I take you've seen my dipped FW GUO? The trick is to do the dipping by daylight for large models and not under a strong, warm light...

I want to see your Bale Taurus too! Get cranking!

Thanks! The Drazhoath model is really sweet, but a bit tricky because the sheer amount of metal he's carrying around. I had originally thought to make the face a bit "greyish" to represent the stone curse, but couldn't possibly see how I'd get a good effect applied on the model. I tried doing it using some grey weathering powder on the bodies in the gibbets and it looked pretty neat, but got washed out by the dip.

Yeah, it's a sort of wash that draws down into the recesses, providing additional shading for the model. I think it really speed up the painting process and can look great if applied together with more traditional painting.

I also have these BFG escorts I wanted to show you. Scored them off Ebay and the original paintjob was a crimson red so the colours don't match 100% but good enough for army work:

Also have 3 more escorts and 2 strike cruisers, but the latter ones are so miscast I'm not sure if I'll be able to use them:

And nobody seems interested in my left-over hoverboards, so I decided to turn them into DE Cruisers instead:

    I think that'll be a torpedo tube...

Your monsters look real nice and I'm impressed by your patience to paint all of them. I'm always daunted by such big models, although I'm always wanting to do a project like that.
You're getting great results dipping such large models, and the GUO just takes the cake there. Amazing model, and you've brought out all it's detail perfectly.

Good idea to make DE ships like that, I'm gonna have to try that out myself.

Judging by the Taurus and the Toad Dragon, the dipping seems to be working out very well for you.

Your attention to detail on the toad dragon and its base is astounding.

Thanks! Still haven't figured out how I'm going to do the launch bays though... It works well with DE ships too because they don't have that many weapon setups.

Thanks! I don't usually find myself daunted, but rather exhausted after painting large areas of certain colours, which is why I'm so uninterested in 28mm tanks. Metal has got to be the worst though. Painting the chaos dwarf war machines in several metallic colours right now, and even with a metallic undercoat it's BOOOOOOOOOORIIIING.....

I didn't dip the Toad Dragon though! But the GUO came out really well and proves that dipping can be used to achieve great results with a paintjob far above TT-level. I think I should start trying out airbrushing and see if that could make me paint a bit faster though.

Thanks! The Taurus does look rather nice now that I look at him. I'm still thinking about what to do for a K'daii. If FW doesn't unveil him this weekend I'm currently pondering one of these:

    http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/inde...nb_mon_027_000

    http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/inde...nb_mon_020_000

Anyway, some new pictures. Like I wrote, I've undercoated all of the remaining CDs and their War Machines, and I decided to do a batch paintjob on the War Machines, starting with applying some bronze, some gold and then a big 'ole drybrush of silver before picking out some blue and fiery details prior to applying the dip.

Also thinking if I should glue the crew to the machines before dipping or after... there will be some minor details that I'll have to do post-dipping, like the eyes. I think I'll glue them on after dipping though.

Also got a bunch of new toys today. First off, when Dreadfleet was released I was captured by the models - they really blew me away. Sadly, almost a year later, I've only painted a single one of them, and hearing that the game wasn't all that great hasn't really inspired me. But I still wanted a fleet to go with my Chaos Dwarves and I scored this (very) cheap on Ebay (Wargames that are actually affordable, thank you Spartan Games!):

Of course I'll paint the CD Submarine from Dreadfleet to go along with them and I think he should be able to proxy as some ship or another for them too. I'll be using the same colours as for the rest of the CDs, with a metallic base and probably dipping, but with more weathering and brighter brown for the planks. Don't know what I'll paint in blue, maybe the tanks with chipping or the entire prow... oh, I alsot hink this is one of the old starter boxes.

But wait! There's MORE! Our very own Deamon-Forge was kind enough to sell me the following, which also arrived today:

I'll go with his grey base, adding a fortress grey highlight to it, with the colours from the flag, a few Iron Crosses, red airplanes and gold.

Also, that big blimp is RIDICOLOUSLY HUGE!

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

Still working away at those War Machines, though I've now applied the bronze to each one of them. Just a few gold details and a silver drybrush and then some details before dipping.

In the meantime I finished these BFG Thunderhawks:

I also managed to finish the US fleet, but alas, disaster struck again as I was applying the varnish earlier today and the varnish appears curled and cracked in places. I don't know what it mght be, as I applied far lighter coats than I've done on other models, such as the bale taurus, but my guess is that I didn't wait 24 hours after dipping before applying it:

As you can see I painted them to match my Chaos Dwarves in metal, bronze, gold, blue and yellow:

I'm thinking I should give them another coat of varnish later this evening and see if that fixes some of it (a bit of it seems to be disappearing as the varnish has dried), but well, they're passable in any case.

I'm thinking of getting an elven fleet down the line to match my wood elves... I am mightily tempted by the prospect of an Undead Fleet though, to match the ships from dreadfleet. But first I need to fix the Chaos Dwarves and the Dystopian Wars stuff and the Chaos Space marines and...

Also, anyone know where to get these nice bases?

    Very nice looking fleet.
I really should finish one of mine.
As for the bases, my guess is that they are made from scratch.

Turns out I'll have to get some transparent plasticard and make my own, yeah.

Luckily I'll soon have a Dystopian Fleet that'll also require some bases so...

I got to try my hand (slightly) at some airbrushing for the first time ever yesterday in the workshop of my pal Deathbullar (he ended up airbrushing my ships and I ended up buying the food):

In the end we opted for a grey base colour on the ships and I've now applied some codex grey extreme highlights and am currently in the process of painting the woodworks:

I've also prepped the CD War Machines for dipping - just a few more bits to go on the hellcannon and some bleached bone before I apply the dip, meaning it'll most likely be done today... then it's on to the crew:

Also mightily tempted by Spartan Games offer of spending 50 GBP on Uncharted Seas and getting the rulebook for free! As I've already got the old Shroud Mage starterset I was thinking of getting something else, but at the same time I wanted some elves to represent my wood elves - I've started thinking that the Dragon Lords might be a better choice for the elves though and I'm considering getting the Bone Griffon vs Dragon Lords set instead... http://spartangames.co.uk/shop/index...product_id=384

I'm mightily tempted at the prospect of getting the scenery bundle though.... http://spartangames.co.uk/shop/index...product_id=385

Dipped the War Machines earlier today:

Just bone highlights, some weather and instruments left to paint and then it's varnish-time. Right now they're looking quite shiny...

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

    Very much right now.

Finished the CD War Machines and ended up using the same can of varnish as last time, since I though it was the dip that hadn't dried properly causing the cracks. Turns out it wasn't.

    1. I am happy that I sprayed the war machines separately. Had it been "organic" miniatures they'd have to be scrapped.

    2. I curse myself for using the same can, and for not trying it out on a single miniature first.

    3. I looked for solutions to this and a quick search yielded that I'd probably sprayed too close. I don't believe that at all. I've been spraying very close using this brand and this can previously without any issues whatsoever. I've used it on dipped miniatures without any issues whatsoever. It also doesn't make any sense because it cracks across large flat surfaces, and not in the recesses. Also, it occurred in places where I hadn't or didn't spray very much. The only thing I can think of is that I applied to much of it in one go. So it's long-distance bursts with lesser coverage from now on.

I've since removed that can from the stock and will be trying another can of Army Painter Anti-shine, but if this happens again I'll switch brands.

I think you can see it pretty clearly on the barrel in this picture - the worst affected areas were the large flat metal sections on the Hellcannon and the walkway on the Death Shrieker. I've covered it up on the death shrieker with some black weathering powder, but I don't know what to do with the Hellcannon.

Anyway, here they are. They work for gaming purposes, so I'm not too distraught over it but it sure is annoying as (expletive, expletive, expletive):

Do you think I should add some more snow on them anywhere?

Well, they look great! Shame about the varnish. I'm still skeptical of using any varnish at all because of the possibility of something like this happening.
The snow is like all weathering and basing details. You could always do more, but it's not guaranteed to add anything important. You've definitely put enough snow to get the point across

Thanks! I ended up adding some snow and weathering powder to cover some more of it and they don't look too bad right now! Looking forward to getting to work on the crew, though I need to score a set of crewmen for the hellcannons as well.

Any ideas? I got it for free from a mate, but ther additional parts were missing, hence its current state, though I think I prefer it this way. Sort of.

I was thinking about ordering some crew from Titan Wargames maybe, though for transportation I would prefer it if I could find a plastic option somewhere.

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

Finished the death shrieker crew and this time I used a new can and sprayed from a good distance and behold! Perfect result! Well, almost - turns out the coverage isn't nearly as good when you spray from 30 cm so I'll have to put a coat on tomorrow on some small places.

It's late around here right now, so the brightness is a bit off, but I think they look suitably dirty and gritty, which is what I wanted from them - they do spend most of their time crawling around underground or working with flaming stuff, and I imagine it's hard to keep warm with clean skin in the snowy weather:

You can also see the burn-scars on this fella, shows really well in real life and all I did was to paint them in tanned skin for a basecoat, whereas the rest of the dwarf skin is dwarf skin highlighted with bronze skin, elf skin and some edges with pallid flesh:

Still got the rest of the crews to do and I need to scrounge up some crew for the Hell Cannon. Don't know where to find them though...

Thank you! I was hoping to have the army ready by November/late October but it's looking grim...

    The list will probably be:

50-ish IG (all assembled and undercoated)
5 Characters (all assembled and undercoated)
    1 Death Shrieker (Done)
2 Magma Cannons (Done, still need crew added)
1 Hellcannon (Done, still need crew added)
5 Wolf Riders (Wolves ordered, Hobgoblins awaiting conversion/assembly)
6 Bull Centaurs (Not yet ordered - 110 GBP! THAT'S INSANE!)
1 K'daii Destroyer (Not yet ordered, will probably end up using the Banelegions Blood-Maw Vore)

I'm on the fence regarding K'daii Fireborn, but will probably end up getting them further along the road, saw them in a store yesterday and they looked kind of tiny!

Financially I should be able to cover the remainder (Blood-Maw Vore, Bull Centaurs) over the coming 2 months, but being familiar with Maelstrom's delivery times I'm a bit nervous I won't get the Blood-Maw in time if I order it at the end of September. Still, as we're putting together a major FW order this coming week that'll just have to do anyway... Been a while since I ordered the Wolves from Maelstrom (A month maybe?) but that's probably GW acting up and not them...
