    Re: The Plog of Jericho

Thanks for the kind words purplebeard... I know I promised picture updates but I've had a long day and it's almost bedtime here (yes, us working adults have those too) so I'm not gonna be able to deliver on my promise today. The news is I had a great game versus one of my close friends today that I'll write up for your sakes.

Also took some shots of the fantasy daemons which is my current project, hopefully due finished this week since I plan on fielding them next saturday... so tomorrow I'm gonna put a list together and then finish them according to priority along with movement trays during the week, which will be a challenge due to time-constraints and work/work/work travel getting in the way...

    Talk to you tomorrow!

Would be great to hear about the game!

As for mixing NMM and metals, I think you're right - artfully done, it shouldn't be a problem. I think the main problem with mixing them is that the NMM part stops looking like metals. Looking forward to see how you do it though.

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

As it turns out I'm a filthy liar. With a username like mine, who would've guessed it?

Anyway, I really should stop giving deadline estimates...

Buuuut I've got pictures! And a few battle summaries?

Last sunday we played a game of 2400 Beasts vs 2400 Daemons, Blood & Glory Scenario. Fun game, ended in a draw. Daemons, especially large unit of plague bearers, are rock hard as they withstood my elite Bestigor units with BSB for a long time and finally even ran them down. At the end of the game I had my main character unit with my lord and lvl 4 mage in it left along with a large unit of gors. The Daemons player had lost some fleshhounds, fiends, a unit of bloodletters and probably something else, but he still had his 2 blocks of PBs and Daemonettes left.

Then this saturday I took this list to our local tournament bout (we do one every 4 weeks). We played ETC and I wanted to use all the minis I had basically.

Herald of Khorne - Armour of Khorne: 115
Nurgle Herald - BSB, Great Icon of Despair: 215
Herald of Tzeentch - Master of Sorcery (Life): 140
Herald of Slaanesh - Siren Song: 115

24 PB - Full Command, Standard of Seeping decay: 343

20 Daemonettes - Full Command, Siren Standard: 295

20 Bloodletters - Full Command, Icon of Endless War: 295

28 Horrors - Full Command, Banner of Change: 391

    6 Flamers: 210

    3 Fiends: 165

    1 Fiend: 55

    5 Furies: 60

    Total: 2399

I face and scored the following against my opponents:

    Me Vs Skaven: 16-4
    Me Vs Lizardmen: 0-20
    Me Vs Ogres: 0-20

The fact that I've scored better using wood elves with ETC should probably tell you all you need to know about that.

The game versus the skaven player went really well - he had some bad luck with his shooting, and I lost my fiends to his unit of plague monks but my Daemonettes, which were locked up in combat with a huge slaves regiment used the siren song on his extremely deep unit of Stormvermin, luring them into making a flank charge on the daemonettes and blocking his big character of clanrats entirely, setting up a flanking charge from my plaguebearers. Amazingly the daemonettes survived! By the end it was a solid win, with daemons performing amiably versus T3 troops.

Lizardmen... my nemesis. I've faced this list before, and I certainly thought I handled it better this time, taking out 2 cohorts of 11 skinks with javelins, 1 group of skink blowpipes and the terradons. Leaving me facing an ancient stegadon, a lord on carnosaur, some chameleons, a salamander, another 2 units of blowpipes and a block of 32 saurus warriors with a BSB on cold one with them. That combo alongside 3 Skink shamans with the lore of heavens being the worst part. One big mistake I made was making the Stegadon charge my Daemonettes, who didn't have any support. The Stegadon didn't connect the charge of course (though it was a close call) but I countercharged it in my turn and that proved to be a big mistake. Whilst when i finally had my block of PBs and Bloodletters locked against the Saurus I rolled abysmally and lost 11 PBs to crumbling in the round before the Bloodletters got stuck in... Big disappointment and letdown on account of T3... Letters, PBs and Daemonettes got annihilated, but I managed to save my Herald of Tz along with the horrors and furies. Unfortunately I'd still lost by 20 points.

Final game had me facing Ogres. No biggie I thought. He had 2 giant, a unit of some 12-17 Bulls, another unit of maybe 9 Ironguts and another unit of 3 bulls where he place 2 bruisers and his tyrants. I took one of the giants out with no problem but I had a problem on account of the daemonettes facing down the big bull unit on one flank (though I'd delayed them using the furies, which I just should've saved for later...). And then I charged the Ironguts with the PBs and the Tyrant unit with the Bloodletters. Despite having the -2 LD standard he passed his breaktest with the Ironguts and I never got the upper hand in that fight again. The Bloodletters fared horribly against the Tyrant unit, which was really a smart move on his part. They eventually died, as did the PBs and by the end of the game all I had left was the Herald of Tz with the Horrors and the Flamers IIRC.

I definitively need to improve my magic discipline, esp. With daemons. When you know you need that +4 toughness boost versus the ogre character unit, don't tty to split your 7 dice between it and the thorns spell when you've already got throne of vines going - just roll all 7 dice for the toughness boost. That's my future advice to myself at least.

Now for pictures. here's some from sunday's game:

    My first turn after moving:

A big unit of Gribbly Plaguebearers...

    Will they charge?

And at long last a couple of Overview shots:

I toiled for many hours in order to have everything ready from this army for the battles on saturday, and I made it! The only things I've yet to finished are Epidemus on his palanquin (already have a painted 40k version, reaaaaaally booooring model to put a brush to twice) and 6 additional furies.

As you can see some plaguebearers from my 40k army also decided to make a guest appearance in the last shot.

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

Ok, thought I'd record my explots during today and tomorrow as I try to finish a few models - mainly the basing on my chaos (dwarf) war altar and my razorgor chariots.

I converted the War Altar for a tournament bout where I think the warriors performed somewhat OK-ish IIRC. Basically I just built it out of scrap parts I had lying around, mainly those which didn't end up getting used on one of my 40k Soulgrinders.

The Dwarf with the barrel is from the OOP flame cannon and the one with the anvil is actually a rackham familiar. Not entirely pleased with his skin (I was going to the same effect as my Mid-Nor BSB) but it'll have to do. Just the basing left now.

These Rhinoxes I bought converted and painted for use as Razorgor Chariots. I've been going over them and improving the paintjob, but it seems the more I do, the more areas that need working on start to appear. Anyway, since my beastmen force mainly consists of models that I bought painted they're of a lower quality overall than the rest of my work. But it's fun for variation to paint miniatures to different standards I think.

I'm gonna continue on the one featured in the second picture and try to finish it first. As you can see I've just done the skin and green robes.

    Getting to work...

Right, all the bone and white highlights are done, as well as some yellow leather/strap highlighting.

I had to wash the quilt on the back of the rhinox that the beasts are standing/sitting on due to some of the grey resin showing through. Currently waiting on that to dry and then I'll paint some brown leather. Also added some pink highlights around the rhinox eyes and painted the pupils on everyone.

Light is kind of bad here, don't get direct sun in my apartment until late afternoon... right, taking a break to head into town and will continue in a couple of hours...

THanks! I'm probably taking a break until tomorrow - went into the city for a bit and me and the missus are off for a barbecue right now so... darn it, when will I ever have the time to paint? :-)

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

Right, extended break on account of "missus intervention" until today, when I'm having the day off because it's a holiday in Denmark and everybody here in Sweden's working so...

    I finished stuff! Pictures yay!

These are the counts-as-razorgor chariots for my TT-level beastmen army. I've made a (bad) habit out of buying painted or semi-painted stuff and altering it to suit my own needs as you well know if you read the first post of this plog.

I got an offer to buy these which I thought was mighty decent, but I also put alot of time into them myself and completely reworked the paintjobs on the riders and practically every detail on the thing. The only thing I probably haven't painted that much on is the fur on the rhinoxes, but it should be noted that I've added an extra layer of highlights or two there as well.

All in all I probably spent more time on these two than I would've if I'd painted them from scratch... but I'm pleased with the end result (for a TT+ level...) and I think they'll fit in nicely with the rest of the beasts now.

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

Next up is my Chaos War Altar, which I converted and painted from scratch. I was hoping to achieve the same effect on the guy in the back as on my Mid-Nor BSB, but it sadly didn't turn out that well.

I think the colours are a bit disjointed sadly, but I think the centigors and the overall concept turned out very nice in any case so I'm happy with it. I think it'll serve its purpose just fine.

    Re: The Plog of Jericho

Lastly for today I've got some ogres for you.

I got offered a batallion box by my local LGS when the ogres were first released on the condition that I paint them up. I only ever got around to doing the one unit, but they turned out well, considering it was a few years ago after all... Since then I've been offered deals to good to pass up on some pirate themed ogres which I know are featured in a plog around here somewhere... so I bought and did some slight touch-ups to those as well and then a couple of weeks ago I got a great deal (I mean, these deals were GREAT. Wouldn't have bought them otherwise as I don't collect ogres...) on a unit of ironguts. I've just added some silver to the gold and painted eyes on them and well, here they are:

    My Old Unit:

    The New Ironguts:

All of them together with the pirates and 4 chaos ogres I got with the beastmen army:

I think I might have the makings of a complete ogre army there, right? I imagine them to be loose warbands/mercenaries who've just banded together under the leadership of some ogre or other. Who knows what'll turn up?

I've been converting some wood elves as well, mainly from the dark eldar incubi and hellions which will become knights on foot in wooden armour and warhawk riders respectively. Don't know when I'll get around to painting them, but when I saw the new Cockatrice model I just realized it might be serviceable as both a wood elf great eagle and a beastmen jabberslythe as well...

Next up I've got some more mid-nor dwarves to salvage. After that I'm probably going to make a detour to FoW as I've got some tanks I bought off of Light of the Emperor that I haven't finished yet. And then maybe I'll get around to doing the last, few, final daemons for 40k... an army that I've long since considered finished, but when you get a great deal on the Forgeworld Plague Toads and the FW Daemon prince what're you gonna do? Right?

(I've got to start selling painted models...)

    Ta!

Nice razoroxen. Nice ogres as well, I'd see about unifying the bases if you want to make an army of them, they're quite disparate as is.

Yeah. Don't really know what to do with them. If I do decide to turn them into an army I'll try to get the samle colours on the bases. So far at least the base edging is all the same colour.
