... is converting and painting an Ogres blood bowl team at the moment. Next in line is a lo-fi themed Dark Elves team and then Norse.
I'll be boring and paint the toad dragon in the same shades of green as my trolls and wood elves, so it'll be that but with some additional beige and yellowish shades and highligts in this area.
Yeah, I think it's the same with other reptilians and possibly ducks as well?

@jt - It's a bile troll from FW.
I got a box of FK termies (I know, I' hopeless) in the mail today that I got in a trade. I had to build one, just to see for myself how OTT the models are:

So I know I whine alot about the weather this time of year (and the lighting), but right now it's about noon here and it's pretty grey out there already. Anyway, the Plague Ogres are done and I'm mighty pleased with them.
I tried out a different recpie for rust this time, but basically used the same colours. I undercoated with boltgun metal and gold for the respective areas (which also received a silver highlight). After that I applied leather brown and some scruffy orange brown liberally across the objects in question adn gave them a wash of devlan mud thinned out using thinner. I think the devland mud made them a bit too dark to be honest, so in hindsight I probably should've used ogre flesh, in which case I hopefully wouldn't have been forced to apply another highlight. After the wash I overbrushed all of the metal areas using chainmail.
I think the end result looks more realistic than that on the bile trolls however. What do you guys think?

I'm very pleased with the skin and I feel I really managed to get some exciting tones of purple, red/pink and green in there which just makes it overall more exciting to look at. Unfortunately the camera makes some of the tones wash out and appear darker than they are, like on the pants. I also blame the light outside for this.
PErsonally I tihnk this is the most interesting model as it also has the added details of some scrounged up empire shields. I know it's hard to tell but I also gave the feet a wash of black in the hope that they'd come to resemble the hooves they're turning into a little bit more:
Note the eyes I painted all across the back. Could've painted these as giant buboes, but I think eyes are more creepy and well... "eye-catching":
Guess what? It's toad time.

The ogres are looking great.![]()
Those ogres look grotesque! Great job on the mutated parts. Your painting really brought out the grossness and I shuddered just looking at them (and that is meant as a nurgly compliment!)
Yeah! The Plague Ogres look excellent. Such amazing models, and the paint job is really picking out the cool details.

Thanks mrtn!
Thank you - that's about as kind a compliment you can ask for as a nurgle player/lover! I hope to bring you more abominations to shudder at within the near future...
Thanks, I'm glad I went for eyes instead of "giant zits". I also shaded each and every one in the corners w purple wash and highlighted the edges of the skin around them as a final touch, though the pictures don't show it very well.
Thank you! The models are indeed very nice, I imagine a person could use them as a basis for a pretty wicked nurgle ogre force!
Anyway, there might be a change of plan as I probably intend to bring my wood elves to the comped Gothcon tournament this year, and thus it might necessitate me to paint a few models for them. Haven't gotten around to basing the toad dragon yet. Still need to do that before priming, but the weekend's coming up and I've got 2 days off next week that I will probably spend working on wood elves or the toadie.

Those ogres are awesome! Love the diversity of this plog!

Love the Woodelf paint work- something for me to aspire to! Really beautifully done with the detail and colours![]()
Thank you, thank you! You are all too kind, though I think my "hoarding" is to blame for the diversity somehow... If I hadn't already had all these projects I'd probably be spending my time converting BL characters as fancy strikes me.
Thanks! Holler if there's anything you'd like to see better pictures of, or just ask about anything as I'm happy to talk about them. I rate them all (well... some dryads and the glade riders aside...) as my finest paintjobs ever!
As you might guess I got sidertracked somewhat from the toad - there's legitimate reasons for that however, as I plan to attend an upcoming comp tournament in Gothenburg, and as it turns out I need to paint a couple of nobles to use on great eagles for that purpose. I've also up until now been using the warhawk models as great eagles - since, y'know, they look cooler, they're on the same base size and still larger than the old eagles. So I've asked the TO if it's OK to continue using them as great eagles in the tournament. If not then I'll probably bring another army as I'm not buying and painting 4 new great eagles for the tournament... 2 nobles will just have to do.
They're pretty cool though, converted from wood elf and dark eldar hellions. Anyway, also got sidetracked by this:
Only wanted to experiment some with source lighting, and I thought I'd use him as an additional dark emissary as those guys tend to be popular. Only took me a couple of nights to get to this point. Right now I'm really just thinking about adding some symbols to the lower edges of his clothes and that's where I need some input as I don't know what colour to use?
Red gore and blood red? Already used that on the clothing but with additional organge highlights, but might work and blend (somewhat) subtly into the rest of the miniature. Any ideas? Anyone?

A couple of better shots of the "Dark Emissary". I've decided against applying any pattern on the cloak, as I feel it wouldn't turn out very well if I tried working it into the creases and folds at this stage. In hindsight I should've painted the layers of the cloak in different colours, but I can't be bothered to paint over the siurce lighting really. As such I'll apply some basing and then he's done.
Next up I've just started working on the Warhawk Riders/Nobles on great eagles:
Also, I finally got some inspiration for working on this - a model which I consider to be one of the most iconic in the history of warhammer. Simply, I intend to paint the cloak in the same colours I used for the dragon a while back, and then use my normal wood elf palette to tie him in with the rest of the army.
Only question is what colour to paint his hair. Currently leaning towards grey, but I suppose he might work as a blonde too...

It looks like you've got the principle of the OSL painting right... I was thinking, though, that perhaps you could make the bright parts really blindingly bright, to bring out the effect even more. It might be the quality of the photo than the actual paintjob itself, but the head between his hands doesn't seem to be a light source. I think you've got the effects on his robes and all pretty down pat.
Don't give up just yet! Maybe if you want, you could put him aside for now, since you're focusing on the upcoming tournament. But do come back to it - it looks like you've almost really got it. It would be such a shame to let it go when you're this close.
Fantastic conversions for warhawk riders! Hm... you are tempting me... I do have a wood elf army after all. But are warhawk riders any good in a game?
Thanks! Yeah, looking at the pictures the OSL effect doesn't translate that well. It looks way better in reality. I could probably go a degree brighter in the sphere in his hands... maybe... But the effect on his mask and clothes looks solid IRL. It was more of an experiment to see if a drybrush approach would work for it, since I haven't tried OSL before. I intended for him to be a gaming piece, so I might give him another slap of bright tomorrow, but after that I'm calling it done for now. In hindsight I shouldve kept the sphere simpler when converting it, and added something interesting like a rounded shield on his back or something.
Does anybody know where/if there's such a thing as something similiar to the "whirlpool"/triskele on the back of the dark emissary available somehwere?
Warhawk riders currently aren't any good in game, but I'll be participating in a comped tournament: http://forum.sverok.se/download/file.php?id=2736 and in that context Nobles on Great Eagles are a solid choice as they don't comp score all that bad. :-)

Great painting again, the Dark Emissary looks great. You might want to try a new dwaven shield (some nice rims, right size) and convert that, if you are looking for another symbol try the celtic triplesymbol.
Stunning ogres!
Oo the dark emissary looks lovely! Is there a pic of him, front view?
Don't worry too much about the OSL, I was just suggesting stuff. Feel free to ignore me on that![]()
Nah, those were good suggestions. I ended up going a slight shade brighter, but the pics weren't very good so I haven't posted them yet. He's finished however.
Here's a couple of the original emissary:
And here the finished piece is, a bit blurry though:
On account of work I haven't actually painted anything since last weekend. Feeling a bit stressed about that since I need to get a couple of wood elf nobles ready ASAP for my "Eagles".
