Call to Arms, a Empire Army project log

    Hello Fellow Warseermembers,

I am a long time reader of the forums, but this is the first time I will try to get a project log running!

A long time I am thinking about starting an Empire army.
I have a lot of stuff lying here in all kind of boxes, I am playing Warhammer from 1994, so you know how things go when you start collecting!

I will tell more about my ideas for the army in the next messages, but I want to post some pictures to see if everything works well.

Ofcourse I would like to know what you guys think and hear thoughts about things you would like in the army.
So, I hope to stay excited about the army.

    Now for some first pictures:
My first unit to start are 50 Halbediers:
This is what I got so far:

    Some old and new miniatures!
This is going to be a Middenland unit.

    I have three unitfillers:
The first one is the White Wolf at the right (still black now......).

The White Wolf is the sign of Middenland, I will try to make a unit filler in all of my units that reflect the wherabouts of the unit.

The other two unitfillers are hired Ogres.
I have convert them to Halbediers:

I hope you like the start of the projectlog.
    And all comments are welcome.

    All the best,
    Belegar

    Hey Belegar,

Let me be the first to compliment you on a great unit of Halberdiers! The combination of old and new models is no problem, certainly not with Empire models. I already spotted some of my favorites!

The unit fillers also look nice and the idea to have them reflect the regiments origin is very good!

I love the diversity that is brought by the Ogre unit fillers. I also like the idea that you will make a unit filler that responds with the place of origin of the unit. I am very curious how it will look when you have the unit all painted! Good luck with your project, I will follow it closely!

Re: Call to Arms, an Empire Army project log

Thanks Boreas_NL and Wicked Dwarf for the replies.

    Now some other pictures.
I am working on a Captain on a Pegasus with the Dragon Bow.
The combination of the Captain on the Pagasus with the bow I like, so I thought I would make a figure out off it.

I do not know from what Province I would like this hero to be??
    Any suggestions?
I do not know if there is a Province where there are more Pegasus then other Provinces?
    I hope you like him.

Any comments or remarks are greatly appreciated.
    All the Best.

That Captain looks very, very nice (I really like the sense of momement in the model)! The Dragon Bow is very well executed and looks very cool (and a very good idea, too)! The plastic Pegasus is also a very nice model, just make sure you remove all the Bretonnian icons... As for the model itself, fielding a Captain on Pegasus is a good choice. There are so many tasks he can perform...

But if I could make a suggestion (just a small one)... I would replace his arms (for instance with a nice puffy set from the new plastic Empire Archers). The bow is fine, especially when used as the famous magic weapon but the arms look too Elvish (and nobody likes Elves...). Just a suggestion, though the model already looks stunning as it is now!

As for the province of origin, I would suggest Reikland, or even Altdorf itself... Pegasi are quite rare and the most can be found in the Imperial Zoo in Altdorf. Maybe he could be a representative or envoy of the Imperial Court...

    Keep up the good work!

    @Boreas: Thanks for the advice.
I will remove the Bretonnian icons and look in my Empire Bitbox for a better arm.

And you have a good point about the Imperial Zoo.
I will make him an Altdorf Captain, Red and Blue it will be.

Nice colour on the wolf! I like it, looking forward to see what you will do with the base. The captain on Pegasus is definetely a favourite for me.

Love the Captain, the facial expression is perfect
Bretonnians ARE NOT a pure Knightly army.
Half the army choices consist out of Peasants and Damsels.

Re: Call to Arms, a Empire Army project log

@Wicked Dwarf: thanks, the idea is to make a sign with "Middenland" on it and I want one Halbedier on the same base as the wolf.

@ doc_cthulhu and Artinam: Thank you, I will start painting him very shortly.

The idea of my army is that the Emperor Karl Franz has send a message through the Empire to field a massive army against a horde of Chaos.
From all over the Empire different units are responding and are heading to Altdorf.
The plan is that I will paint at least one unit out off all the Empire Provinces.
So, the first will be the Halbediers out of Middenland.
The next one will be a Spear unit out of Nuln or a Swordmen unit out of ???.

Tonight my Empire army will take the field against a 3000 pts. Orc & Goblin Army.
I will let you know the results tomorrow.

Cheers and have a good night.

What?! Why wasn't I invited to join in the slaughter?

I'm curious to hear how the battle went. Empire vs Orcs and Goblins is always a challenge, even more so with their new book. What did you field? 3000 Points is quite a lot Empire goodness!

I like the idea of a multi-state army. What kind of unit will join you from the grand province of Stirland? A unit of famed Huntsmen?

Re: Call to Arms, a Empire Army project log

Ok, next up is the Halbedier that is going next to the wolf.

I choose one of my favourite metal Halbediers, I got two of them so I hope I am not messing up. But if I will, I still have got a "whole" one

This is where I cut of his arm:

And pinned a platic new one on him:

This new arm will be resting on the back of the wolf.
I hope to finish this tomorrow..............

I got Theodore Buckner in the mail thursday from Forge World.
Everything fitted nicely, only the reigns I will have to fix if he is ready!

Then I am working on the two Oger unitfillers of the halbediers.
I want that all the metal parts are full off rust.
Because I think Ogres will not be very keen to their armoury like men will be!
They are far to bussy with other things..............
As a basecoat I use Graveyard Earth:

Tomorrow I will put up the next step(s).

All the best and keep those comments coming in!
    They are really appreciated.

Interesting Idea going on here and the guy on pegasus looks mint. also am a big fan of the theodore Bruckner model too, especially the on foot version

as for units from different places would Nuln not be better represented by handgunners or artillery pieces, some of the forgeworld ironsides or something like that.

be keen to see a fnished paint job on a unit keep it up!

The captain on pegasus looks great, although i'd recommend you reposition his arm holding the arrow so that it's on the right hand side (from the captains point of view) of the bow.

Or alternatively tilt the bow hand so that he's holding it horisontally ("gangsta style") with the arrow resting on top of the bow.

    Belegar,

Your plan to make a unit from all Empire provinces is a good idea.
I'm curious if you add some Kislev. They belong also too Empire as Alied forces.
The captain on pegasus look very good and like what you did with the bow but I told you that before.
Buy the way you didn't tell me that you have Theodore Buckner. Like the model.

Cann't wait to see more of your plan

Thanks, that is a good point!!
I cut off the arm, because I couldn't paint the face, and will turn the arm a little when I put it back up.

You are right, there will be some artillery pieces from Nuln present in the army.
    The only thing is:
The spearmen I got have all round shields with a Lions head on it.
And when I read that the symbol on the flag of Nuln was a Golden Lion, I thought that I would make this unit from Nuln with black shields with a Golden Lion on it!
But if somebody got another idea, I am open for it?

    Then some pics:
I finished the Wolf unitfiller, only the base I have to do:

And I got to fase 2 of the rust:

Next up is some orange and then the metal parts.

    Keep the comments coming!!
    Cheers
