Thread: The Fimir of Albion

Hey Javgoro, I would rate the new fimir very highly indeed. Great detail, nice posing, and still very faithful to the look of the older fimir. Well worth picking up, and for FW, not that crazy expensive.

That's good to hear, if I go to Games Day this year I may set aside some money for them.

That's good to know. I was already pretty set on getting them after working out that they cost about the same as most monstrous infantry these days, so this just confirms it. The "very faithful" part was what decided me, really, as I love the look of fimir.

    Re: The Fimir of Albion

After my recent foray into water effects on my movement trays, I decided to take a look at Base-X-of-War's resin base range. I had picked up some of these a while ago, but only recently gotten to paint some up. I must say, I do love their stuff, the range is increasing all the time and they are pretty inexpensive.

The swamp bases all have recesses for adding water effects, similar to the movement trays. You can see the latest fimm here on the base-x base waiting for the water to be added. This will be tinted to represent boggy water. I'm quite looking forward to seeing how this turns out, as I was very pleased with the result on the trays, and the meargh base's main feature is the bones of old sacrifice's peeking out from the brackish water at her feet.

And onto the subject of temptation. I'm sure anyone reading this who's ever painted an army knows there are times where the urge to switch to a new project is almost overwhelming. I have been subject to this of late, where the lure of the vampire counts almost turned me away from the swamp-dwellers. IN fairness, this was mostly due to me trying to figure out how I could get an army ready for an upcoming tournament in September, and I imagined it would be easier to round out my vampires with a couple of new units.

However, after some thought, and splendid advice from my sister, who is herself a gamer and understands the sensitivities of such a decision, I instead decided to use this as stick to make sure I finish enough of the fimir army to make the tournament. So, I now have to finish the fimm unit, the meargh, Crom, a unit of fianna fimm and more if I can to ensure the Fir Domhan make their tournament début this September...

Your sister is a gamer too? Lucky you, I consider myself fortunate if mine just pays attention when I try to tell her something warhammer-y!
The bases are looking pretty awesome so far! And I was nearly tempted back to my Vampire Counts earlier this year, but I stuck with my Empire!

The bases are lovely - they were a good decision on your part.

Here's the latest members of the Súile na Lisaart. I still have some water effects to add to the fimm with the stone knife, but I'll leave that until I have a batch to do. This leaves me with the last batch of four on my painting desk, so almost there...

Wow, thanks a lot. I'm blasting ahead on the last four, so much so I'm already thinking of colours for the meargh's robes and how to jazz up her rather plain staff.

Fantastic stuff, the gems are outstanding! Perhaps some freehand woodgrain or runes on the meargh's staff would jazz it up?

edit: whoa, didn't even notice it until I had a second look. The bloodsplatter on the axeblade of the bloodmoon fimir is done amazingly well!

You could try hanging some talismans or other charms from her staff.

    Re: The Fimir of Albion

Thanks all. I should have the final four fimm and the finished unit shots up very soon! @pointyteeth, thanks, it's done by flicking paint from an old short-bristle brush to give the spatter effect. Simple, but works great, just mask off what you don't want spattered. @Astraeos, that's exactly what I'm thinking.
