Thread: The Fimir of Albion

    Re: The Fimir of Albion

Holy crap, there's an actual use for those stupid savage orcs! Even better, it's Fimir!

@ Mr. Ultra: They were created to be the flagship Warhammer race. Well...that worked out wonderfully

Fantastic stuff! I love the GW minis here. I hadn't even noticed the savage orc release- they make the perfect basis for Fimir. Thanks also for the comments on my Fimir warband

I do, but I only find unofficial factions to be of interest to me these days. I've always wanted to see a great Fimir army and this guy is doing it beyond what id of imagined from the conversion, sculpting down to the cool paint-scheme.

I gave up with WHF and 40k but fantasy is My friends niche - he is producing a new Fantasy wargame called Manaseth which will fill the same niche as my sci-fi game in that it will be entirely non-humanoid focussed.

Didn't fimir get the boot when they decided to make warhammer less dark and more of a "family friendly" game? I look forward to following this plog for sure!

Thanks for the explanations guys. So the Fimirs are the Squats of Warhammer, uh? Interesting. Specially the rapist thing.

I love how genocide is family friendly while nudity is still verboten.

Hah hah. Welcome to the wacky world of America.

Wikipedia has a pretty good explanation of the Fimir, and where they went. Personally, I loved them when I was younger (when I was the demographic they were probably aiming for in the next edition) and thought they were vile as all hell. Good on you for bringing them back!

Maybe you could do some marauders as slaves, and do some awesome and gruesome stuff for unit filler.

    Just a thought. Cheers, dude.

Balor us already! Great idea and amazing sculpting! The whole idea is a great concept and WoC makes it even greater with BALOR!

    Re: The Fimir of Albion

Thanks all, I'm really enjoying this project and it's great to get such positive feedback.

    Balor us already!
Oh, don't worry, one of the other things that drew me to WoC was the daemon prince option, or, in my little world o' fimir, the Balor option. He'll be a job of work, but hell, totally worth it if he works out. He fits in nicely with the fluff from Warpstone 25 too. I've got to figure out some way to represent his eye, I was thinking having it weeping or flaming, and make up a scenic base from the remains of those he's turned it on. I'm torn between burned or turned to stone.

Once the first fimm unit is done (7 down, 9 to go minus the unit filler) I think either the hellcannon or meargh. The hellcannon will be pretty disgusting, Crom is all slimy worminess, flailing tentacles and attendant carnivorous giant grubs. His handlers need some thought, perhaps nets and long spears/prodders.

Burnt is more impressive. You make coal statues, with fiery, glowing cracks, like tree stumps right after a fire, you know what I mean?

    It looks great!

If you take Ogre Kingdom rules you can also put in the Boglars should you wish (swamp version of a Gnoblar).

    Re: The Fimir of Albion

I'm getting to the point now where I'm not posting every fimm I make, but this fellow is another of my cast heads, the leather-hooded fimm. The detail and shape of the hood doesn't come out on the photo as well as it does in the flesh, I'm afraid, but the face is at least quite clear. I'm pretty happy with it, which leaves only the helmeted fimm to go. At this stage I have 7 out of 20 fimm complete for the first unit, but the filler I plan will take up four spaces, leaving 9 fimm to go. Getting there!

    Re: The Fimir of Albion

I've assembled my meargh, the stooped hag-queen of the my fimir clan. I'm taking a break from the fimm factory to put a couple of heroes together. She was the first fimir in my collection, and she's been tucked away in a box for an age of man. I've given her a little narrative on the base, as she stands over the remains of some of her many sacrifices. I'm planning on filling the convenient hollow that the skulls rest in with coloured water effects so they are partially submerged. It'll be great to finally get painting, but I'm trying to assemble the entire army first. This is proving a trial, as I'm fiending to get painting these guys.

    Re: The Fimir of Albion

The problem is there were never many figure sculpts made, right? It's like Zoats, I had 3 or 4 of them, but I think I had every sculpt already, including a converted 40k one.

I like the idea though, great work. The 4+ save can be explained plenty of ways (clouds of flies, hypnotic single eye confuses weapons, nasty stench, etc etc)....

Indeed, there are laughably few actual minis. Only two human scale ones, if you include the heroquest guy.

    Re: The Fimir of Albion

I have about twenty bloodmoon minis, they do a damn fine job as fimir. They are so recent I forgot to mention them above! They come in quite a few pieces too, so plenty of scope for conversion. You can see one of the great weapon bog raiders lurking at the back there. I plan to sprinkle them among the units for variety.
