Re: Tales of the Sefirem Sector

    SEFIREM SECTOR

The Sefirem sector, Ultima Segmentum, lies on the borders of the Eastern Fringe, along the boundary of the warp-anomaly known as the Labyrinth Stars. Formerly the territory of an extinct alien empire, the warpspace around the Labyrinth is twisted and broken, resulting in a maze of lost planets, confusing space-lanes and dangerous creatures. The settled planets of the sector nestle along the shore of the Labyrinth like city-states along the coast of a great and dangerous ocean.

Sefirem is young as sectors go- barely to its third quincentennial. For millenia, it was written off as wild space: a barren wasteland of resource-poor stars, infested with xenos and heretics, unnavigable past the twisted arm of the Vernal Sea. It was not until the pioneering efforts of the Rogue Trader Regus Foucalt that the majority of the sector was scouted and deemed suitable for conquest, and the first Reclamation Crusade was launched. To this day, the sector remains something of a backwater. A single shining line of secure trade lanes connects the hives of Balmoral and Stromehold with the well-trod regions of Imperial control, and many of the more far-flung Administratum datastacks still list the sector as merely "pacified." Clinging to the tempestuous warp-shoals of the Labyrinth, the Imperials of Sefirem are typically self-reliant and insular, facing down mysterious threats from unexplored (and unexplorable) parts of the galaxy that more coreward sectors barely dream of.

To the north of the sector lies the Legion sub: the proud systems of the sector's founding, children of the First Reclamation Crusade and lynchpin of the sector's cultural and economic strength. To the south lies Elohim: a barren expanse of wild-space, where the only safety lies in the huddled mass of a pilgrim convoy, the chartered territory of a Rogue Trader dynasty, or one's own quick wits and fast gun. To the southeast lies the battered Sutton sub, its treasures swallowed by the Labyrinth and mauled by unending orkish and heretic assaults. And to the northeast lies the Labyrinth itself, a great and terrible ocean of unknown dangers and lost opportunities, upon whose obscure fluctuations entire civilizations depend.

The year is 685.M41. In the wake of the events that shattered the corrupted forge world of Manos, a great wave of change has swept Sefirem. The Labyrinth, for centuries largely stable, has waned to an extent never before seen. Entire regions of space, lost to the material universe for millenia, have been exposed like reefs before the receding sea. In response, an explosion of heretical cults, bizarre xenos, and Archenemy forces have rocked the sector to its core, stretching its armed forces thin. The great orkish warlord Krumptoof has returned to realspace, his depredations fueling a resurgence of orkish Waaaaghs!. Inquisitorial rivalries explode into the open as radicals and loyalists take sides and exchange blows. The sector's Guard and Naval forces struggle to hold the line against Daemon, Eldar, and Genestealer assaults, while Space Marines of the Salamanders and Knights of Cydonia chapters launch a desperate counter-assault into the open maw of the Labyrinth.

A great darkness has fallen on Sefirem. Only time will tell if it will survive the night.

Re: Tales of the Sefirem Sector

FORCES AND PERSONALITIES OF THE SEFIREM SECTOR

    Under Construction

    Imperial Guard

    18th Ricochet - "Crashlanders"
The Crashlanders are an air-mobile infantry regiment from Ricochet, a massive system-wide asteroid belt on the coast of the dreaded Labyrinth Stars. Centuries of clan warfare amongst the rocks, subplanets and orbital stations have bred a combative and self-reliant people, with a maverick streak that does not always mesh well with the realities of life in the Imperial military. Under a hail of covering fire from their Valkyrie AACs, the Crashlanders storm enemy positions with lasgun, knife, and demolition charge, and their gung-ho ferocity has given them a well-earned reputation in the Sefirem Sector and beyond.
    Important Personalities
Col. Leon Shay - The Crashlander's gung-ho commander has been a thorn in the side of the Munitorum bureaucracy for almost 60 years. Neither tactical genius nor smooth political operator, Shay's slow upward fall through the ranks is largely due to his unquestioned valor under fire, personal loyalty to the troops he commands, and almost supernatural ability to survive the most suicidal of missions. Shay's preferred method of deployment- grav-chuting directly into assault from a low-flying Valkyrie- seems to put this ability to the test every mission. But if he has doubts about his own mortality, he hides them behind a wry grin and a flippant comment.
Lt. Rosalyn Seung - The former commander of the Crashlander's 2nd Company, decimated by the Chaos renegades of Iciphion and the subsequent Inquisition purge of the survivors. A hard-bitten woman, she commands the remnant "Three in Ten" as a special forces unit. She owes total loyalty to Shay for disobeying orders and rescuing her men from Iciphion, and is haunted by the strange events of her trial at the hands of Inquisitor Finch.

    Warhost Tobaal
There are twelve of them. They were wearing Terminator armor. They came from nowhere.
This is the extent of the Inquisition's file on the "Angels of Manos," the entities alleged to have aided Inquisitor Emonde Lyr in his investigations on that world. Lyr and Kill-Team Alaran have claimed no awareness of any such thing. Not even Lyr's brother Xanthians (not that they make their allegiance a public matter) know any more than that Lyr has tapped into their knowledge of how to keep the Deathwatch from remembering anything too important.
Even Xanthus himself would have balked at dealing with one of the Daemons of the Iron Grimoire- but the deal was too good to pass up. All Lord Tobaal asked was that he and his eleven champions be summoned to battles that would test them. So long as they are provided with same, Lyr will not know death.
    Important Personalities
Lord Tobaal - Four hundred years ago, the thing that calls itself Tobaal was banished by a Grey Knight Paladin-Aspirant. It has returned to realspace with a healthy appreciation for the ability of a small, heavily armed-and-armored elite force to break through the strongest defenses and destroy an object of value. It has gathered the core of this force- now all that remains is to see if they can be forged into the weapon he wants.
Inquisitor Emonde Lyr - When the Sefirem Ordo Xenos absolutely, positively, needs a xeno strong point dead, it's Inquisitor Lyr they call. He and his deathwatch kill-team have a string of unbroken successes behind them, most of which owed to the timely arrival of the Angels of Manos. He's on the fast-track to high office in the Sefirem Ordos, but a rise as meteoric as his has drawn more than a few suspicious eyes, and it's getting harder and harder to keep Tobaal's existence under wraps.

    Ragnarok Splinter Fleet: Umbra’s Flame
It was over 800 standard Imperial years ago that the Salamanders routed the xenos infestation classified by later generations as Hive Fleet Ragnarok. In a final push to cleanse the region of the rapacious Tyranid scout fleet, Chaplain Sadra’Ul lead the Salamanders 2nd Company into the heart of the swarm, catching the xenos as they attempted to recover lost biomass from a jungle moon. Just as Sadra'Ul's spearhead made its strike, a freak warp storm engulfed the system. The 2nd company took heavy losses, and no sign of Sadra’Ul or his men were ever found. 200 years later, reports began to arrive at the Administratum of Holy Terra of Tyranid creatures emerging from the Labyrinth Stars. It would be another 75 years before they were identified as the Ragnarok strain of xenos. Umbra’s Flame still burns. She will consume; She will conflagrate.
    Important Personalities
She-Who-Sees - Twelve tons of fun, with matching heels.
Code Name “Sadie” The Asp of the Labyrinth, with a taste for the sons of Vulkan.

    Waaagh! Shinbash
What started as a minor but tenacious rebellion within the orkish empire of the Looted Stars reached a critical mass when the cunning Kommanda Shinbash took control of orks invading the planet Manos. Now the Looted Stars are in the throes of civil war, while a new orkish power rises in the ruins of the shattered Forge World. The orks of Waaagh! Shinbash are a motley crew - firepower obsessed meks, hordes of slovenly boyz, and pollution-scarred sewer mutants. No matter their klan, the orks of Manos follow the Kommanda's call to fight as he throws the sector into chaos.
    Important Personalities
    Kommanda Shinbash
The self-titled Kommanda Shinbash has always had a problem with authority. Possessed of a natural kunnin', he has never acknowledged the power of orks who are bigger than him and often works towards his own goals rather than that of other Waaaghs! around him. That sort of guff resulted in many savage beatings as a young ork. The punishment simply fueled his ambition with vengeance, inspiring him to endure and rebel against those who underestimate him. A longtime kommando, the Kommanda knows how to fight against the odds - often leading a small group of handpicked nobs on daring raids heralded only by the smell of his signature cigar in the air. Resilient and willing to spend whatever resources it takes to get the job done, the Kommanda works hard to get what he wants - and now he wants the legendary Warboss Krumptoof dead.
    Da Dread Warboss Krumptoof
A living legend among the orks of Ultima Segmentum. More than a hundred years ago, Warboss Krumptoof led the Waaagh! that crushed the Ebrius sector and turned it into his personal empire, renaming his conquest the Looted Stars. Though his Waaagh! disappeared into the Labyrinth, it's a testament to the fear he provoked that his lieutenants held his empire together for almost a century before wrecking it with infighting. Since the Concordance Event caused the Labyrinth to recede, Krumptoof has reappeared in the Seferim sector - his Waaagh! bigger than ever, reinforced with battle-hardened orks and looted xenos technology.

    Bitter End Kabal
The Bitter End is a dying Kabal, slowly wasting away after its dramatic banishment from Comorragh. Exposed in realspace to the predation of Slaanesh and still haunted by eternal hunger, they can only access the webway through a portal ungaurded by Vect - one that leads to the blasted realm of Shaa-dom. Still proud in their degrading state, they prey on the weak of Evanheim from a base tunneled into its polar glaciers.
    Important Personalities
    Ana’lae Coldwine
Ana’lae Coldwine, the daughter of the banished Kabal’s former Archon, knows her time is running out. Despite the outward arrogance that is her birthright, Coldwine knows how quickly their supply of captives is depleting - and how each piece of equipment, wondrous though it is, is unlikely to be replaced without resupply from Comorragh. Despite this, the eternal hunger of the Dark Eldar demands that she sacrifice ever more of the Kabal’s limited resources - and, in increasing numbers, its members - to feed it. Fear of what awaits when their resources run dry keeps her awake in her cold sub-glacial chambers - nightmare pain that she draws on to keep her alive. She staves off her anxiety with the joy of Venom-mounted raids, the bracingly cold wind and bloodcurdling screams of her prey serving to clear her mind.
    The Ghol
A twisted creature, The Ghol was the first presence to greet the Bitter End’s arrival in Shaa-dom. The mad Haemonculus keeps a heavily guarded laboratory, hidden in the ruins of the once-great city, and he was pleased to see his kin for the first time in centuries. The Ghol’s supply of pain is essential to the kabal’s survival, but he cares little for their plight. He is more concerned with his own explorations of the wasteland of Shaa-dom, often bribing the desperate to search for lost artifacts among the demon-infested wastelands. He will gleefully turn the weak into wracks under his control, ensuring that the survivor’s short-term hunger is fed at the expense of the Kabal’s long-term survival.

A new battle report has been added to the Hunting Shadows campaign thread! Inquisitor Lyr has taken the key to a hidden treasure from Kommanda Shinbash - a vault on the ruined forge world of Manos that could hold another weapon to use against the oncoming Tyranid. But have Shinbash's orks already mucked up the ancient technology? Lyr and Tobaal must hack their way in to uncover its secrets.

As usual, sorry for the long delays. We have several games in the pipeline that are being written up, so we should have some more stories for you soon.
