    Forgeworld Elysians Air Cav

Tried a painting log/project once before while trying to paint Ultramarines 2nd Company however the birth of two children put a halt to that real quick. For the last 3 years I've been on a hiatus from building and painting but I have been able to buy a little at a time.

This is what I have purchase for my new Elysian Project

1 – Company Command Squad + fw pilot for officer of the fleet and 2 elysian body guards. (with backpacks)
1 – Long Range Scanner with 4 Elysians (with backpacks and grav chutes)
1 – Lord Commissar with bolt pistol and powersword.
4 – 10 man Veteran Squads with shotguns. 2 squads with 3 meltaguns and powerfists and 2 squads with 2 flamers and 1 heavy flamer. (all with backpacks)
1 – 10 man Veteran Squad with lasguns with grenade launchers, 3 plasma guns, and 1 plasma pistol. (with backpacks)
1 – Drop Troop Platoon (all with backpacks and grav chutes)
1 – Command Squad with grenade launcher
2 – 10 man Squads with grenade launchers
    2 – Missle Launcher units
    2 – Heavy Bolter units
    1 – Mortar unit
    1 – Sniper unit
2 – 3 Drop Sentinel Squads. One squad with heavy bolters or flamers and one squad with meltas. Will deep strike these units
1 – Stormtrooper Squad (old school metal) with 2 of each special weapon. Will deep strike this unit.
1 – 2 Tauros Venator Squad. Will probably setup with tw lascannons.
    1 – 2 Tauros Assault Squad
    2 – Valkyrie Sky Talons
    1 – Thunderbolt
2 – Vultures. One with punisher cannon and the other with multiple options.
6 – GW Valkyries. Up to 4 of these can be upgraded to Vendettas. The 6 will be used to transport the company command squad and 5 veteran squads into battle.
    3 – Cyclops Demolition Vehicles.

Totaling to more than 4000 pts according to army builder

    Still to Purchase

3 – 10 man squads to add to drop platoon
    1 – Marauder Destroyer
1 – Elysian Drop Troop Squad and Krieg Grenadier Squad to make Elysian Stormtroopers
1 – Flamer or plasma squad to add to platoon
1 – Sniper squad to add to platoon
    3 – Tarantula heavy bolters
? – Enough jump packs and equipment packs for everyone

    Built

1 – Company Command Squad with body guards which I have had to go back and modify
    3 – 1 of each veteran squad
    4 – Valkyrie/Vendetta
    1 – Vulture

    Re: Forgeworld Elysians Air Cav

Came up with my paint scheme for infantry but I am still working on my Valkyries. Will post pictures soon.

    1st
    • Model – Primer Grey
    • Jump Suit – Base Coat with Vallejo Dark Sand (123)
    • Jump Suit – Wash with watered down mix of Devlan Mud, Vallejo Yellow Ochre (121), and water.
    • Jump Suit – Highlight with Vallejo Dark Sand
    • Impact Pads – Paint with thinned down Yellow Ochre
    • Impact Pads – Wash with mix of Devlan Mud and Badab Black
    • Impact Pads – Highlight with Yellow Ochre

    2nd
    • Armour – Base Coat with Vallejo Cold Grey
    • Armour – Wash with Badab Black in the middle of armour plates and in recesses. Wash with thin brush around edge of plate between jump suit and armour.
    • Armour – Highlight with Cold Grey

    3rd
    • Leather (boots, pouches, gloves) – Base coat with Vallejo Khaki (115)
    • Leather (boots, pouches, gloves) – Wash with Devlan Mud

    4th
    • Gun – Base Coat with Chaos Black
    • Gun – Paint details with Cold Grey
    • Gun – Wash with Badab Black and highlight grey with Cold Grey

    5th
    • Metal – Base Coat with Tamaya silver XF-56
    • Metal – Wash with Badab Black

    6th
    • Goggles – Base Coat with Chaos Black.
    • Goggles – Paint wide strip of Vallejo Scar Red (72012)
    • Goggles – Paint narrower strip towards lower half with Vallejo Blood Red (72010)
    • Goggles – Paint narrower strip in lower ¼ with Vallejo Orane Fire (72008)
    • Gun – Apply same paint scheme for gun power lever indicator on side of rifle
    • Goggles – After Doll Coat Spray cover with Vallejo Gloss Finish

    7th
    • Base – 50/50 Vallejo Black and Vallejo Charrede Brown (72045)
    • Base – Highlight Drybrush Vallejo Yellow Ochre (913)
    • Base – Highlight Drybrush Vallejo boneWhite (72034)
    • Base – Highlight rocks with Astronomican Grey
    • Base – add static grass and other grasses
    • Model – Coat with Testors Dullcote 1260 Flat Clear Lacquer

Painted up one model pretty quick. Hopefully I can keep motivated. Need to come up with a Regiment Number. Was thinking about 1st and making them 7th Cav. I kind of like the whole Custer's last stand and I found some 15mm scale 1st Cav Decals and I found an oldschool 1988 officer with crossed swords on his cap that would fit this perfectly. Still thinking about what to do. I have a regiment standard and found 7th Cav banner pic which I could put on it.

Here are the pics of my test models.

I decided on the one on the left. I still need to edge/highlight the gun with something.

    Re: Forgeworld Elysians Air Cav

    First Valkyrie built

Second through sixth Valkyrie look like this. The wings are set to go on but the weapons all need to be magnetized so I can switch between Valkyrie and Vendettas. I added small magnets to the rear ramp so they stay shut when playing.

    Command Squad

Thought the Bodyguards had too long of chain swords so I chopped them down a bit.

I have been thinking about getting the swords for FW Kreig but these will have to do for now.
    http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhamme...GRADE-SET.html

I came home yesterday to find a box from Forgeworld. I had emailed Ead at Forgeworld and found out they had a couple downed Valkyries left so I purchased them. Last night when I finally got the kids down and opened it one of the Valkyries was missing half the body. Come on man... where is the quality control? There are 2 big pieces and 3 little pieces in the kit. It wasn't hard to tell that something was missing the second I picked it up. I sent an email off and we'll see what I can get since the molds were falling apart. The model which was complete had big chunks of the mold in it and the second model was cast afterwards because you could see where the detail was missing. Hopefully they can take care of the missing piece.

    Re: Forgeworld Elysians Air Cav

Thanks. I have been wanting to start work on this for a long time. Chaos and Evil, Captain Browns, Deamon-Forge, and Russian Roulette's blogs on their Elysians have inspired me.

Deamon-Forge... I used the Cadian Chainswords and cut about 3/16 of an inch (4-5 teeth) out of the sword to make it look more realistic. I have been toying with the idea of combining the Krieg with Elysians to make Elysian Stormtroopers and Commissar. I really like how your models turned out and have been toying with the idea if they don't make some pretty soon.

Thanks... wanted a little something to stand out and had seen someone do the visors in blue and red/orange. I don't know how it will play but I am going to try. Worked on the command squad this weekend and finished the captain less his stripes on his helmet.

I am thinking of making a platoon of elisions in my army but was wondering if there are any special rules for them or if you needed to pay extra points for grav chutes when making an army list. Also are elisions worth the extra money you have to pay on forge world.

    Re: Forgeworld Elysians Air Cav

I love the detail on the models and feel they are worth it. They do take a little longer to assemble are more breakable... I think I have made 3 repairs already to the gun barrel on the lasgun.

I presume that you are making an IG army so you can use them with the normal 40K IG rules. I've managed to pic up the imperial armour books over time and the current rules are in IA8. I plan on playing with the FW rules but will have a couple extra models so that I can play with the 40K IG rules. (FW doesn't have the astropath, master of ordanance, and no 3 special weapons in command squads, but does offer valkyries which are not in squadrons)

As for the grav chutes... all Elysians have deep strike using the FW rules and the chutes are just for looks and to get more of your hard earned money. I don't believe there are any equipment upgrades/point costs for 40K IG rules. I think the Grav Chutes are part of the rules for the Valkyrie and deploying troops when moving flat out.

Those models are fantastic. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you spend on that army, just so I have a target as I save money for my own Elysian army.

    Re: Forgeworld Elysians Air Cav

Not sure what the total amount actually is. I've been purchasing it for almost 3 years and there have been some price increases and I usually tried to purchase when the us dollar had a better purchasing power against the british pound. Even then it still was 1.3 dollars to 1 pound. According to the current forge world prices it comes out to a 1250 pounds... around 2000 dollars with the current exchange or 1600 at the lowest exchange rate. Seems like a lot until you spread it out over 3 years where I was spending $50-100 and just throwing the models in a box and hoping for the day I would get a chance to work on them.

The 6 plastic valkyries were purchased at the original price when they first came out.

I still need to get a case to carry all of this but now that I look at the price I don't want to take it out of the house and leave it out of my site. If I had to do it again I would keep a close eye on ebay where people have purchased the whole army and then given up on it. Bigger chunk of change at a time but more bang for your buck. Best of luck.

Thank you. I really should just buy a Cadian army, since this will be my first, but I'm in it for the models and I just love the Elysians.

Hopefully I'll be able to start it soon, maybe through a disgruntled Elysian player.

Got a few done this week... just have to base and flock. Will probably take a pic once the cmnd squad is done. We're getting rain right now so I don't want to spray the clear coat on the finished models or prime right now. I did that once before and destroyed an entire DA company I had painted

I went the other approach and bought my whole 1500 pt army list (plus transfers and conversion bits) at once with my tax return ...definately recommed the piece meal ruote to starting an army such as this

Also steal spectre keep in mind that an all resin army is not for the feint of heart...dealing with breakages and miscasts becomes and everyday headache while modelling these dudes

    Anyways:

Brian what are your valkyrie colors going to be?

Im a sucker for flyers and like you want to one day add a marauder destroyer...but i told myself not until i finish what ive started lol

    Russian Roulette

I like the camo pattern Rev used to painted his valkyries http://www.warseer.com/forums/showth...155834&page=38. He's got more pics here http://s122.photobucket.com/albums/o...ics/?start=all.

Matt was saying that it was basically the camo pattern used in the FW Imperial Armour masterclass used on the Medusa. I also picked up the 7 Day Army Painter with Brandon Palmer - Elysian Army and it has some tips on weathering using oil washes that I might try. I also am going to steel some of your details for the inside of the compartment.

I want that Marauder but can't see purchasing it until after I get the army painted. What are you going to use to house and transport your army?
