Re: Champions of El'Johnson: The Deathwing

Thanks for the responses guys. I was hoping to get another game in today but that's looking unlikely at this point. For those of you that are interested here is a link to the trailer for my next film:

@Peaoui- I really enjoyed our game- your army looks great. I enjoyed nuking the Libby and his sternguard but you really out did me tactically. Great stuff when play testing a force!
@salarath- thanks for the comment dude. Good to have you stick your head in now and again (good to see you at the weekend too) I think basically I was too eager to take objectives and used the defensive part of my force too offensively; putting them in a dangerous (fatal) position.
@Gearhart- congrats on the GW store- bout damn time by the sounds of it.

On topic- I'm going to try to finish the apothecary today so stay tuned!

Yay! Apothecary! Looking forward to seeing him done. He does look promising.

On another note, I'm assuming the weapons you're using in that trailer are Airsoft IF's? Although there isn't any shooty shooty, shouty shouty stuff going on, I quite like the looks of it. It seems like it would draw you in and screw around with your head.

Thanks Nomrana. Unfortunately work got the better of me today and I haven't made much painting progress. Although there are no more movies in the UK to apply for so tomorrow may be more free! Glad you enjoyed the trailer. The guns are a mixture but most are airsoft. The plot is pretty good and the filming has been great. I'll link the full version if/ when I can.

Re: Champions of El'Johnson: The Deathwing

Scouts. I know they aren't Deathwing. In fact in terms of knowing about the fallen and the background of the Dark Angels they are pretty inappropriate here.

on the other hand I love space marine scouts. I think they are cool. I'm also a big Inquisitor player and like individual looking minis with stealthy, behind the lines mentalities.
So I'm making some scouts. The ones below are a sort of half way house for me. I want to do some proper scouts with truescaling and a ridiculous variety of parts... but you'll have to ask nicely and I might do a concept sketch (it involves FW bits too...)

Here are my temporary scouts then:

    http://s1109.photobucket.com/albums/...ine/Deathwing/

5 in total. I'll do some smoothing out of the GS and have another rummage for favorable parts. I came across some Deathwatch bits today so that dream is slowly becoming a reality too!

    cheers

Great work on the arm pulling the pistol from the holster.

My only criticism is that it looks like you need to shave off just a bit of the GS near his arm , and that maybe the holster should be unbuttoned.

    Edit: near his elbow*.

I agree with Finn. The Scouts look good, with only those little bits that need some work. Otherwise, great job.

Re: Champions of El'Johnson: The Deathwing

Some more building today. Had intended to do some painting but hey, it's my hobby and I felt like making a truescale deathwatch marine. Not necessarily sold on the =][= symbol backpack icon. But we'll see. I can always remove it. I'm going to give my librarian a deathwatch shoulder pad and paint him up

    Here's today's guy:

I need to grab some more terminator legs for the next couple. Lots of torsos and arms etc an the deathwatch bits... But no true scale legs...

    Cheers

That is one pasty apothecary! He needs to get some tanning in.

Can you post a quick guide to your blue screens/lens mix?

Thanks dude. Its pretty easy. Basecoat ice blue and highlight up in thin layers mixing skull white into the blue. Nice and quick which is ideal.

Re: Champions of El'Johnson: The Deathwing

Rubbish update today. The light is too good and I don't have a decent back cloth. Couldn't convince my camera to focus on the minis rather than the box behind them...

Anyway this is what the rough silhouettes of my Deathwatch kill team is starting to look like. Probably two more to make.

    cheers

Re: Champions of El'Johnson: The Deathwing

So it was my birthday last week which I think makes this project around a year old now.

For my birthday my mates clubbed together and (under the suggestion of peaoui- thanks man) bought me a contemptor!!!

I'm over the moon and planning what to do with it. I'm thinking weathering a la my drop pod, a cool base and some free hands. I'm considering a banner too but I'm not sure if it'll look good on a contemptor. We'll see. Also I need to order some arms. I'm thinking plasma and CCW for now but may magnetise them so I can get other options when the new Dex lands.

    v excited.

Re: Champions of El'Johnson: The Deathwing

Triple post. That's not good news... what did I do wrong? and when did my rating go down

Right lets see. Forgeworld Contemptor dreadnought. AWESOME. I decided something this nice required some time spent in the assembly and planning stages.

    Clean up/ file down miscasts

I was really pleased to be honest that the cast was so good. Very little work to do, any remaining pitting etc will be passed off as battle damage anyway!

I washed the parts in soapy water and scrubbed them with an old toothbrush to get the mold release off. Priming can be a bitch otherwise or worse; the final paintjob can rub off during handling.
The next step was to fashion a base with some filler (I looked for miliput and couldn't find any, I hope this stuff dries good...)

and finally pose the super cool dreadnought (without gluing the arms or head on so I can tweak things when I get my guns!

I'm super excited about this guy and am going to have a look at writing a 1750-2000 pt list to include him and maybe another droppod.

    So any thoughts?

    cheers

    Ooh, pretty...

Sorry, just drooling over the Dread. I very much look forward to what you do with him, as well as the rest of the Deathwatch you've got going on.

Quick question though. how easy is it to play about with the posing of the Dreadnought? I've been wanting one for a good while now, although a lack of funds has held me back...
