Their first release of Space Dwarves pretty much said "You want Squats, GW won't give you Squats, we'll give you squats!"
Because no one did space dwarves before Mantic... I means theres only hasslefree, bob olley, and more others then I care to mention but as they spell it dwarfs not dwarves... UNIQUE! YAY!

Bottom line is, the more flavours that come out from Mantic the better for everyone because we all end up with something that we like or prefer to collect, paint and game with at our pleasure ;-)
I have to agree with Tonny as well actually... When I first saw the spacerat sculpts, I thought 'that could be a Skaven engineer with no conversion work needed'.
Individually, the models are obviously going to look a lot like Skaven. What will be interesting is how an army of them compares. For a start, if what we have seen so far is the basic troop, you will have an army of engineers, which wouldn't have been seen before. Overall the Mantic ones seem like they will have more armour than a Skaven army, and certainly all guns rather than combat weapons, so we shall see when more of the line is released.

Personally, I was never a huge fan of Skaven so these sculpts don't really do much for me. They look nice, but I don't want an army.

Now Mantic is saying "GW want to change Hrud, we'll give you the original Hrud!"

Does anyone know in the Corporation's fiction if there are strange jabs at GW's own workings and policies? I'd find that humorous. There's supposed to be a rebel faction which could be a game stand-in for Mantic itself.
I think the first and most obvious one (besides the general background of an evil corporation) is the use of the Copyright symbol as the Corporation logo on the heavy weapons. I thought that was pretty durned funny.

It could just be the corps logo?

The Corporation only lets their soldiers go to war with Corporation brand weaponry, which has to cost more than rivals since it is made of the most groundbreaking material ever; as life changing as when other planets were first settled. Corp weapons manufacturers openly wept at the sight of the weapons being tested for the first time they were that amazing!

The Rebels provide cheap weapons that appear to function just as well as the Corp brand weapons, they also allow their soldiers to go to war with whatever brand of weapon they please and openly encourage the diversity and subsequent freedom of speech as a result!

Llew, the heavy weapon teams are certainly where everyone first noticed the symbol, however, the Golum Studio Corp weekend suggested that they first used it on a unit not the heavy weap team. Still, they were all pretty much shown at the same time.

I swear you just love slamming Mantic don't you Gomez?
You can't help yourself, you get all hot under the collar and start frothing about how lovely GW skaven models are here on this thread (and yes they are nice too) but is the place for you to have a GW love-in?
    Really?
You're doing it again and you don't even know it.
Have you got a GW implant or something? Lol
Gomez, what I believe the gentleman was trying to point out as others here have is that Mantic ARE different because unlike any of the few examples you have offered up, Mantic ARE offering a full army not just a few small scattered models.
They are offering the opportunity to collect a FULL army of Forge-fathers/space dwarves and they will be offering a FULL army of Veer-myn/Rats in space.
Nobody else has done that, Period ! and that makes them unique straight away from the get go.
Have you grasped that notion yet.?
So before we even embark on discussions about quality of sculpts, unit options, restic or plastic or metal hybrids, sprue options or pricing, we have to acknowledge and give a nod to Mantic for taking on the big task of producing more than just a little selection of miniatures hinting at a range.
They are already going full tilt at producing a full range for Forge Fathers and they are about to start giving us a full range of Rats in Space.
Frankly I think that is very cool and it it is without exception, unique.
So kindly stop waving the GW flag here and start to focus on the 'Mantic' aspect here in the Mantic forum, thank you Gomez.

For my part I can't wait to see more of the Veer-myn because I am liking what I have seen of the two models pictured so far. Oxygen masks and space suits etc are a good look. Mantic are going to give me what neither GW nor any other company for that matter, have managed to come up with yet, a rat army designed and built specifically for a sci-fi environment.
The sculptor is clearly talented as seen from his previous work and he has been sought after by GW, so we know he is going to come up with interesting work of a high standard, I can't wait to see what he produces.
I know I will want to get them though.
Rats in Space, yeah baby, thats what I'm talkin' 'bout !!

^ No, it's a fair point. Grymnn and Scrunts have a larger model range than Forgefathers currently do.

Non-metal models (so, lower pricing), and a free game and army list for using the models are the things that separate Mantic from the numerous garage manufacturers such as hasslefree, not the variety of models on offer.

Yikes, so the largely positive thread of Gomez's I read this morning concerning Mantic goblins, with the opening line "And there (sic) chuffing lovely." is slamming Mantic? Odd, looks to me like he took the time to photograph new models he bought, even going as far as inviting people to ask more about them before he gets to paint them.

I know you're addressing Gomez, but quality of sculps (Subjective! Fun!) has nothing to do with caring about or acknowledging Mantic "taking on the big task". Hell, it may well just mean they make an entire army of awful models! (I don't mind the space stunties myself, just not my cup of tea)

Re: Mantic SciFi Games News and Rumours Roundup

Not yet Scarlet, but as I pointed out Mantic are still building their armies and we all know that.
Veer-Myn have only just started squeaking their whiskers around the corner of the door, and Forge fathers have yet more offerings on the production line for a 'growing' list and they already have a rather flash war machine not offered by Bob Olleys scrunt range.
Regarding the space rats army nobody will have anything to offer on that scale ;-)
    So they are unique...

I have no issue with the opinions GA holds even though I don't always agree with them. I do have an issue with the way he sometimes chooses to express them.

Don't suppose you know whether the Space Skaven will be getting a single plastic/restic set, along the lines of Orx and Forgefathers, or can expect multiple units from a single kit, like the Corporation?

There are two Plastic Resin Veer-myn kits in the office at the moment - the Night-Crawlers and the Stalkers. They are different units; unique torsos, heads, arms and weapons in each. Heads and arms are seperate from the body on both of them.

And both kits can be combined? This would give us a nice selection of poses.

I to was disappointed by the resemblance that the Veermyn have with Skaven but to be honest humanoid space rats actually makes sense (and it isn't a new Sci Fi concept). The actual models look ok, the guns are bit to smooth and well made but the full range may well be worthwhile.

Was this new ground breaking material as big as the moon landing? Does it leave the corp soldiers' rifles full of holes and require additional purchases to fix

Bloody hope the vermyn kits are interchangeable - Wonder what the army deal will contain? Also wonder what, if any, the character models will look like. Fortunately for the consumer, iob clanrats are cheap as chips, combined with generic sci-fi bits, and a few nice skaven characters (also from IoB), along with hordes of mantic vermyn, will a nice army make. Hopefully. Funds permitting.
    Browncoat. And will be forever.

Not being funny, I bloody love Mantic Games

Am I late to the party or is Mantic just absolutely brilliant in a sneaky kind of way? The evil Corporation running around and claiming everything as their own... and now "We don't talk about the eight race". We don't talk about them! Corporation on the one side (Yes it is only us) and if something else exists, well we don't talk about them (No there is only one manufacturer! We don't talk about anyone else in store!) Is this just cheeky and brilliant at the same time or not? What a metaphor, you sneaky fellows you! ^^

Awesome. Just a query if possible; the Veer-myn's leadership caste don't have horns, do they?

    It is pretty genius
And cheers Nightsword for the info. I'm guessing one is the more elite unit (possibly a more cc orientated unit?) and the other are the ones we have seen (the scvengers?).
