    Official WarSeer Finecast Poll.

There's already a poll here, but this will be an official poll to see what WarSeer thinks of GW's new Finecast material. Ideally, only answer if you have personal, hands on experience of Finecast, so we can try to avoid hearsay votes.

Please refrain from commenting about pricing here, this thread is solely for Finecast feedback.

Feel free to spread the link to this poll around, the more opinions the better.

    I spy no poll, Jedi?
Yeah, we flew our space church across 500 light years to get to this planet taken over by the orks. Now we're going to drop from orbit in buckets and run out and shoot pistols and hit people in the head with chainsaws. Ultramarines!

You have to post the thread first, then edit to poll ... and my laptop battery died inbetween!

    The poll is now open.

    Re: Official WarSeer Finecast Poll.

This is what I posted on the GW facebook page:

Last saturday I bought the Dark Eldar Succubus. They said all the models were exactly the same. Well GW, shame on you, they changed part of the lance of the Succubus, the finecast model doesnt have the hair thingy hanging from the lance, although the picture clearly shows it.
Besides that, the quality of the model was horrible. I was terribly dissapointed to see the model covered with a strange yellow slimy pastic, that was tough to get off the plain parts, you can imagine how difficult it is to get it of the eye sockets, the hair and details, without harming the sculpt. It needed much more preparation than metal models, it had an awful lot of mould lines and flash. I really hope this was only an exception, Im returning the mini today, and getting the same model if they have a better one, or a different model. The thing is, I have seen other models that look quite good. I really don't get the big quality gap between some of them!!
Do you think there is a way to get all this feedback to the production and executive team at GW?

Thank you. Still think it needs a 'haven't tried' (which is different from 'neutral') but this is pretty accurate.

Yes, hopefully we can get the views of people who have held/bought Finecast stuff, otherwise people will just read the threads here and decide it's awful!

    Re: Official WarSeer Finecast Poll.

bought some skaven mini's the day they where released and was so smart to open up the pack before leaving the store..... at first glance the models looked pretty good until closer inspection so i exchanged them for a "good pack" after 7 tries finally got a few mini's that looked decent enough to spend money on, but didnt buy them and demanded my cash back.

Finecast..... ill cast my own resin mini's which are better quality

Neutral - had a look in store, decided not to buy. From what I could see there was no noticeable difference between the finecast material and metal in terms of general quality. Part of the problem is that there is very little GW stuff that I actually want these days - I may pick up some LotR stuff at some point, but not overly enthused TBH.

Personally bought Castellan Crowe, never really had too much of a look at the mini in store, opened it when I got home, I'm very impressed TBH, easy to clean up, very little mold problems, hopefully I'll be able to pick up Skulltaker tomorrow. Big thumbs up from me. (far, far better than metal and FW)

Can't complain in anyway, the level of detail is amazing, and the models are so easy to clean up and put together, yes there have been one or two tiny imperfections, but i've just as often had molding issues with metal models, i'd say the overall improvements are more than worth having to fill the odd tiny air bubble.

It's also worth mentioning the material is a dream to work with, conversions are so easy, I never thought i'd be able to saw through a terminator librarian's arm in less than 2 minutes.

    Re: Official WarSeer Finecast Poll.

I'm neutral, but not too impressed.
I've only bought one finecast model, Lelith Hespirax, and she's turned out mostly fine. There's a cut on her left arm though (non Impaler one), which is odd.

However, it's more that to me, the only advantages Finecast has over metal is it's lighter and easier to glue. Other than that, you've got a whole lot more clean up to do, and have to worry about working with a more fragile medium (Which I worry about, both Astorath's I've seen the axe had has come off, one side of Leliths Impaler came off for me as well which I had to glue back on).

So neutral as I haven't had too many issues with miscasts and stuff, but don't think it's the best thing ever like GW are spouting, and decidedly unimpressed with resin apart from the advantages I said above (Which I'm sure will be awesome on large models, but isn't so huge on smaller models).

Bought a Big Mek. Far better than metal. Some tiny bubbles, but tiny bubbles > nigh-unfileable mold lines and pinning. Love it, and holding out for a finecast Snikrot and Meganobz.

The ones I've seen are horribly cast, covered in flash, and for the price they charge they should be perfect. Shame on you GW

    Re: Official WarSeer Finecast Poll.

Although this poll provides evenly balanced choice, the implications for the results aren't balanced.

For finecast to be a win it would need votes in the neutral or positive options. But for it to be a failure it only needs some votes in the negative option. This is because we are talking about products that are sold at certain standards and the negative option is showing that the product is failing to hold up to those standards.

If you made a poll that said:

Positive: My new car were well put together and nice to drive.
Neutral: I have no strong feelings either way.
Negative: My new car was poorly put together and not nice to drive.

Getting a percentage in the Negative indicates horrendous QA problems. You shouldn't be receiving a car with defective engines, windows, seat belts etc.

The fact that 32% of the vote has gone to the negative indicates severe problems.

    Re: Official WarSeer Finecast Poll.

None of the poll options really matched my opinion very closely. I've found that all of the resin models that were out of the boxes contained some miscasted parts. However, I'm rather excited to work with resin over metals. So I voted neutral. Anyways I figure that the resin models will go up in both quality and price.
My goal for the year is to get another 100 models painted.
    So far I haven't touched a brush.

Could you be a little bit more specific? Which ones have you seen?
Just flash and no airbubbles? Not the end of the world then.

On warseer alone i have seen a wide range of cast quality.

Obviously, but people have an inherent urge to select an option.

The crucial issue for me with the bubbles is where GW's quality control limit is on number and size.

My Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun had 11 bubbles of 1-4mm, and many more smaller than that (generally the smaller they are the less they matter, though position is also a factor). So my question is how many bubbles and how tiny?

In my letter to GW I've asked what their standard is. I'd be interested to know where people would put the limit.

EDIT: My Big Mek also had some parts that were so thin you could see light through them. If the model didn't have that sort of problem then I'd accept just about any amount of flash. There'll never be a day when there's no flash or mouldlines and it seems to be a lot easier to clean off the resin then metal.

    Re: Official WarSeer Finecast Poll.

When i went into the store i was originally critical, having seen some pictures online. Wasn't intending to buy anything either but the store manager for coventry is just so hard to say no to! Saw some models in the store, notably the blood angel of axe/doom model. Guy who had bought it opened it instore (prudent i thought) and found a void in the shoulderpad, was immediately given another one which was perfect. He was more critical than i, and still said he loved it.

I did the same with a Chaos Lord on Deamonic Steed - i already have this in metal but i'm fed up of him falling over and damaging the knights he's with! On closer inspection there was some bending to do, and obviously mould lines etc. I put him together (including milliputing the join in the horse) in about the same time i put the knights together. This was roughly a tenth of the time it took me to do him in metal, because in metal a 1mm misaligned mould results in hours of filing and detail loss.

With finecast, the misalignment in the horses ass (hehe) was rounded off in minutes with a knife. Detail is far sharper in finecast, especially any tiny details, fur, and eyes. Definately eyes! On the shield i could make out the daemonic face so much better. The resin is also far easier to see what's what in, AND find all those gorram mould lines!

Few bubbles in random places (~5 tiny and 1 small but noticable on the front spike), easily filled and flattened with milliput. Exceptional detail, and no longer falls over killing my knights mid-combat!

EDIT: I did notice the helm had a bubble mid-face-spike, warping it noticably. As i'm not using that head it's not an issue, but as im going to use it later i decided to see if i could fix it easily. Milliput fills and flattens so well with this stuff.
