    Re: Official WarSeer Finecast Poll.

I've noticed a lot of female miniatures have bubbles in their chins - more than their male counterparts - goodness knows why.

Bought a witch-hunter and isabella during the week. Isabella was... quite good - not quite up to par with the last few finecast miniatures I've bought which were great.

The witch-hunter was really diabolical, the worst I've bought yet. They both have red stuff on them (mold release agent?) Maybe it's due to having a relatively high turnover - but I've never had a great finecast miniature from GW oxford street.

So out of nine purchases thus far - 5 postives, 2 neutral, 2 negative.

Epic win for GW. Mini flawed, reason to buy unknown, still bought.

The vial on his left side is half missing too (Can't be seen on the pics I posted).

I hadn't heard any reports about miscasts on Huron. Every picture I have seen on the net all looked pretty good, hence why I went for him.

I have had nothing but bad luck with Finecast, which makes me more dubious about claims of perfect models without pics to back them up.

I'm suspicious about such reports since the "perfect Urien Rakarth"... the one without a chin.

I've got a perfect Urien Rakarth! Mind you, he's in metal...

That Huron is terribad. I fear for the quality of the upcoming Szeras model, given how badly I want one...grr...

Neutral. I dislike failcast on man-sized miniatyres, but it is good for monsters.

the fine cast models that I bought have had no,problems with, although I,know of the issues. There is a lot of feedback on YouTube. With massed produced items there will always be a time of miscasts, but really there should be a better quality control, I think GW have had a lot of negative feedback on this.

I do believe that lack of quality control is not the problem. IMHO, a lack of concern is. Until the sales numbers for Fine Cast minies drops into the basement nothing will be done.

Tell that to my mangler squigs who have a plastic night goblin under the bottom squigs foot to stop the whole thing bending over under its own weight.

    Re: Official WarSeer Finecast Poll.

After putting it off for some time I've finally brought my first Finecast miniature, a Genestealer Broodlord. It is worth noting that when I went to get this guy I deliberately did not inspect the mini visually before buying. I just grabbed one of the two my local GW had on the shelf, took it to the counter and paid.

Once I got home I cracked it open and held my breath. Got to say, honestly, perfect in all respects. I found the material to be flexible and light but at the same time strong and easy to work with, very crisp detail with no miscasts whatsoever. Total assembly time including opening the packaging right through to basing was around fifteen minutes. I've got to say I'm impressed so far (I was defiantly expecting the worst), the only negative thing I could say is price related, $41.00 AUD? Got to do better on Oz pricing GW. I will be adding a few more Finecast miniatures to my collection in the next few weeks and am now really keen to see how they will stack up. Here's hoping whatever teething problems GW experienced with the initial product release are now in the past.

    Re: Official WarSeer Finecast Poll.

Went in to my local today to get some necron bits, including iluminator serezs.

End result I left with just a canoptek spyder, as the only serezs they had in had the entire reverse side of his whole staff completely miscast due to one giant bubble up the entire length and every side spindle and projection was a hollow shell falling apart from bubbles.

Now I have to wait till next weeks shipment to even see if I can get a good replacement.

Did you happen to notice how good the Zahndrek's were? I'm heading off to the LGS soon to try and get a good one, I'm rather less than optimistic though, I might end up with just a spyder like yourself...

there were 2 Zahndrek's and obyrons each and close inspection showed them to be very nice, staffs were both straaight and not even little bubbles, cloaks and crotch drapes on both were again bubble free as far as I could tell, I was very tempted to get them once I found out I had to wait a week for serez but i decided to stick to my guns, as serez is just so intresting and fun.

Still I will be picking up both the other 2 new special characters asap (along with wraiths and tomb blades).

Just been into town, my results were somewhat different. They had two Szeras models that looked very well cast from the side I could see, all the Obyrons were very good with the exception of one whose scythe was ruined by a bubble almost the full length of the blade. Unfortunately all the Zahndreks had serious deformities on the pointing hand. The fingers we either broken in the blister or bubbled into non-existence, also large bubbles around the edges of the shoulder pads seemed to be a common problem, plus lots of bubbles on the belly pipes (which I think has been a problem on all the Necron FC characters), although in Zahndreks case I think this would be covered by his right arm when assembled.

The staffs on all the zahndreks were also very warped, even twisted in some cases, while most of the szeras and Obyron models had very straight staffs/scythes.

I bought some tomb blades instead as I don't see the point in Obyron without the the Nemesor.

    Re: Official WarSeer Finecast Poll.

I just picked up a finecast Changeling.

The model itself is lovely - no bubbles or other wierdies to be found. Nice and light, so no problem with it breaking under its own weight, all good. However, it is probably the worst model I've bought in terms of flash and clean up! Most likely, it's just the way it takes blades/files, but still...

    Re: Official WarSeer Finecast Poll.

I've given it some thought, and i'm thinking the lack of quality control on finecast may be a deliberate decision, based on their marketing structure (churn and burn children). Now this may just be a crank conspiracy theory (in which case god bless the internet so i can spread it), but here goes:

When i first started collecting gw models (although it could have been any model), i had a really high tolerance for defects and low sense of quality. For example, i got the terminator kit, and the assault cannon guy had a bit of flash over the handle that sorta looked like a lightning bolt. I didn't cut it off, as i was afraid i might be potentially damaging a feature on the model. I was new to the whole thing, and had no idea of what to expect. Which might just be me (usually when i ask that question, it is just me).

But my point is, if new customers (especially children like i was at the time) share that issue in any statistically significant amount, they may spend their money and leave the hobby before they even start to get the confidence and experience needed to make calls on what is acceptable quality and what isn't. Given that gw is churning and burning them, and largely not concentrating on the more established players, the amount of people returning defective finecast may be far less than the amount that accept it without question. In which case they have no real reason to improve their quality control, and this is the new standard.

    Just food for thought.

    Re: Official WarSeer Finecast Poll.

Well...there were no new Necrons left by the time I got to the LGS today (at least Finecast-wise, there were Tomb Blades and a Tomb Stalker left (off-topic, the Tomb Stalker box is far smaller than I was anticipating)). They had some of the Empire stuff left in Finecast, but I wasn't really in a rush to get another Warrior Priest (though the one they had was pretty solid - no visible bubbles, easy mold lines, and the detailing on the book was all in working order). The Amber Wizard looked a bit fuzzy to me, but I've no interest in the model, so it could have been fine.

    Re: Official WarSeer Finecast Poll.

I just recently purchased some Finecast models for my Eldar army. I have found no bubbles as yet, but there was one Reaper Launcher missing in my Dark Reaper box, and the texture on the Two Exarch weapons seemed a little rough. Upon opening the Howling Banshees box I found the power swords to be in good shape, but the shuriken pistols were bent out of shape and the Executioner weapon shaft was bent all over the place. After turning to the Swooping Hawks, I found their guns to be pointing in pretty much every direction apart from the angle they were supposed to be pointing. Overall, it looks like the models will take longer to remove the flash from than the metal Aspect Warriors I have assembled. I think I'll be using some warm water to be straightening a lot of bent weapons, but hopefully not filling in too many details.
