Yep, if they were going to get rid of metal and switch to plastic then all those figures would be off sale until they could sculpt new ones for plastic so there'd be massive gaps in the ranges for years to come.

It does make one wonder if all character figures might be plastic very soon...

Indirectly, Daemons get two decent models for this release: The WoC Tzeentch Sorcerer makes a fine Herald, while the Cockatrice makes an awesome Lord of Change!

Edit: Another thing, did not see it mentioned yet. I tried to decipher the first spell, and it appears to be a Shadow spell which generates terrain illusions in some way. Not entirely sure, but it does sound nice and new!

Look upon us and Despair, for we are the End, the Decay of all things, the horror of rot and the blessing of plague.

IF the tail of the dragon bothers too much i think it would be the easiest conversion possible to straighten it and put the model on a valkyrie flying base.

That Necromancer is the first thing I've seen in this whole range that I actually like. If only I collected Undead...

(OK I admit it, the magic-cards grimoire is also a nice touch. But I bet it won't be cheap, and then you'll need to buy all the other non-SOM cards to go in it as well... so overall I won't be touching that with a bargepole).

In reality it's an inferior material for the same price with probably better quality control.

    Re: Storm of Magic pt2

All those characters are looking really nice!

And really, a clampack or blister is the only thing that makes sense as packaging for a single human-sized model, be it in plastic, metal, or resin. There's no reason for them to be in a box on a large sprue. More options could be added that way, but at that point you'd might as well make it a box of three or more models, or one mounted and one on foot like we have for HE or Empire. And then ... it isn't a single character model any longer.

So I think people are making too much of it. If you were getting more, it would cost more, no doubt, and they do appear to be charging less for the plastic than they would for resin.

The necromancer makes me think that VC may be my next army after all. Or, at the very least, I may have to pick the model up.

Not same price. These characters are said to be 10€ while finecash foot models are 15€..

The legs on the Tzeentch sorceror are so thin, I'm not sure if it's the new capacity of finecast, but I'm liking what I see.

My main problem with this 'storm of magic' is that I play a pure khorne list! No wizards for me!

Thanks for the pictures, M'ichal! Much appreciated.

I like the terrain reasonably well - esp. the endless stair and the swirling vortex. Those two I will certainly buy. The other two are "maybes".

I like the big monsters - all of them.

The four spellcasters are all quite nice. I will probably pick up all four, even though I don't do much with Chaos. But they are really nice sculpts. That necromancer is probably my favorite of everything shown in these pictures.

    Re: Storm of Magic pt2

Well sorry, but I'm just not feeling the love for these monsters. The dragon is OK, the detail is good (and very similar in style to the hydra) but the pose is too static for me, it needs to be more dynamic. Overall I prefer the high elf dragon I'm afraid.

The cockatrice is interesting, and I really like the top half of the model, but what's with all the sitting on tails? I never imagined cockatrice's get around by bouncing along on their tails with their feet in the air.

As for the others, the chimaera looks awful, and sadly the manticore is just not as good as the current model.

Huh, that all sounds really bad, but I'm not just bitching about GW, I'm genuinely disappointed with what I've seen so far. Maybe the dragon and cockatrice will grow on me. But I'm not holding my breath.

On a more positive note, I do very much like the dark elf sorceress on foot though (but I would prefer it in resin).

Oh and thank you to M'ichal for posting the pics!
