Thread: historical miniatures that would sync with mantic

historical miniatures that would sync with mantic

does anyone know which historical miniatures would sync best with Mantic figures? -

the bulk of my army will be a metal elven force - i m looking for a good human army to use alongside them -

i already have a group of hasslefree miniatures to supplement them (which fit in very well with the mantic elven archers and palace guard - the height match between the hasslefree humans and the mantic elves is perfect) so ideally i would like humans that would sync with hasslefree human figures -

someone in the mantic blog suggested perry miniatures and i was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of how well these would fit in with Mantic elves and hasslefree humans - any feedback (especially negative) would be appreciated -

i have also bought some miniatures from Armorum and Aquila but the order is taking so long to dispatch that i have second thoughts about buying from them in the future...

The Perry War of the Roses range should be ideal. The Miniatures are a bit smaller and not as bulky as GW miniatures, which fits the Mantic range perfectly. They're als very affordable and look brilliant.

So if you're looking for medieval humans, these would be my #1 recommendation.

Yes I have to agree Perry humans are very very nice, fantastic price, and will fit great with Mantic. However, from reading your posts I see that you are a big fan of metal models, Perry models are multi-part plastic. Have you had a bit of a look on the CMON store? It has a very wide range of models.

Gripping Beast offers vikings, which IMO scale well with Mantic´s miniatures:

They offer most of their range in metal, too.

I'll second the Perry's WotR minis. Those are splendid miniatures, very inexpensive and the scale seems to fit perfectly.

Thanks for the suggestions. Actually I would have liked a mid-eastern type army because I have already bought an elephant unit from Armorum and Aquila, and it looks like the Saracen armies from Perry would fit in neatly with that. I hope they are all metal though, and that the cavalry units especially dont have plastic horses. Does anyone know?

Thanks also for that comparison pic. I remember reading somewhere that the Gripping Beast horses have badly placed eyes...any opinions out there on these?

there's always the lord of the rings Herad minitures. I know they'er not historical, but they are cheap and easy to assemble. Plus it gives you the option of an obscenely large war elephant.

The Saracen range is all metal - AFAIK no one (yet) does 28mm Saracens in plastic, although they are probably on Gripping Beast's to-do list. And the Perry range is either all metal or all plastic - they don't do hybrid kits.

Thanks all for the feedback - much obliged
will be ordering a unit of Perry minis, then compare them with the A&A minis that I already have, and go with whichever company has the better sculpts -

@darwin thats an awesome suggestion about the mumakil, but somehow I just cant bring myself to hand over 51 pounds of my hard-earned money to the evil empire...

honestly their miniatures are fine, and their plastic LotR mini's are even reasonably priced(with the exception of their pewter/resins ones). It's mostly their rules that suck.

You mean those reasonably priced plastic LotR miniatures boxes that all rose in price by 21% a few days ago and now aren't looking so reasonable anymore?

There's a select few miniatures from the range that are worth getting to mix with mantic (mostly the undead), but other than that it's not the best of options.

If you play any of Mantic's games, check out my Battlescribe project for KoW and Warpath.

Just to throw more confusion into the mix, I also recommend Gripping Beast's Moors from their El Cid range. I'm picking some up myself (for use in Hail Caesar).

If it is cavalry you are after the Perry horses are the best, IMO. The human sculpts are also of a finer dimension than either Artizan Designs or Gripping Beast.

Re: historical miniatures that would sync with mantic

The modsticker has a point - the perry minis are by far the best quality, and not noticeably more expensive. To be fair the main reason the GB Moors haven't aged as badly as some of their other ranges is that they all have veiled faces

I think it was the early muslims which referred to the Azeris as Azerbaijanis so it is probably acceptable.
