Perturabos Chosen, Iron Warriors log 7th great company (Many pics)

Ok so here is the start of my Iron warriors army, The Warsmith Kraxion Ironheart leads the 7th Great company of the Iron warriors. With a preference for armoured vehicles Kraxion has gone to great lengths ensuring that his legion is well equipped with a large number of Imperial vehicles and regularly leads raids to snatch up large numbers of vehicles and weapons.

The 7th have taken under there wing a small Warband who are dedicated to Khorne, consisting of a considerable number of World Eaters berzerkers and other Khornate space marines who march into battle under Warsmith Kraxions banner in return for advanced weaponry and vehicles to carry them into battle in the name of Khorne.

Well so far my army comprises of more Khornate marines than actual Iron warriors but i am painting a large group of IW including 5 tanks (pics to come later) a squad of Havocs and a squad of Terminators to go along with the 20+ IWs marines i already have. Ive got 20 Forgeworld converted Berzerkers and normal CSM too. Anyways here the pics of the first painted bunch!

The IW's look great, just how they come accross in the background to me, just one thing about the Kornate colour scheme, it looks a little pinky to me, but I wonder if thats the flash from the camera washing the colour out a little?

Just a few comments on the modeling side too (I'm sorry if i seem to be nit picking, I really do like what you've done here and will be looking forward to future posts ) keep an eye on your mould lines, there are some clear ones in the pic's which would be a shame to distrace from what will be beautiful finished models. Also, if you feel up t it, drill out your barrels on the weapons, it's amazing what something small like this will do to finish the models off.

All in all, love what you've shown us so far, and can't wait for more

Cheers guys, yeah ive had alot of comments about my world eaters in pics and they are definitely very red! ive been using my BB torch camera which is good but i think it changes colours up close for low lighting or something so can look a bit pink/purple.

I will get some pics of my tanks up tommorow got 5 of them undercoated and once ive done a few more IW i will get cracking on a rhino or 2.

Hey, just used shining gold on top of a boltgun metal undercoat and then give it a wash of Devlan mud, some times i touch it up with a bit more gold but i like the duller gold look that devlan mud gives.

Heres a quick update guys, been mega busy with a new job Coaching sport to kids (ALOT of driving!) but managed to get 5 more IW done and have started on one of my Rhinos.




So thats now 11 guys painted and based plus my 10 Khornate CSM who are all painted and based.

Here is a rhino in a very early stage of painting, still got alot to do on it! the black needs to be done better on the pannels and doors as there is some overlap, need to touch up a few bits of the ironwork and then add all the detail as well.




Also i have been thinking of using my IW with the normal SM list, i have a 1500 pt CSM list sorted and have the models to do it but i am quite keen on doing a razorback based tank army putting in my Vindis and predator plus a dread.

Is the black on the rhino the start of shevrons?? I found it much better to paint the area yellow first then add black stripes later.

Could do! i wasnt actually going to do chevrons i was just doing some black so that it broke the colour scheme up slightly, my main colours are Silver, Black and Gold with red also being in there for plumes and topknots and also horns etc.

Chevrons is a good idea i will try it, will just have to do a couple of layers until it looks ok.

Well ive been busy with my new job recently but have had a bit of time to do a bit of Building, got my hands on a Venerable dread as well and have converted it to be all Chaos-ey





I have finally got round to building my Chaos predator as well! here she is, ready to fight for the glory of the Warsmith.




And finally ive been converting some havocs for Chosen squads from my old dark angels devestator units, and here are the results.

Ok so ive been busy painting a couple of Rhinos and have had a go at freehand designs on the opening hatches! I think my Chevrons worked out quite well on the IW Rhino but my other Rhino is done in a Khornate world eaters pattern as it is the transport for one of my Zerk squads. I tried to do a world eater symbol on top of the Khronate rhino, its not great but its quite neat, not sure what to do with it really!

Anyways...pics!!!




Applied a wash of Baddab black on the armour to give it a greasy/oily/dirty look as well rather than looking pristine and shiny like a loyalist tank.

And finally one of the Zerkers who will be carried inside the Rhino!



Lots more Berzerkers to come, i might do a spot of highlighting on them as well as they look a bit dull with just a wash of ink on them, neat and nice but could do with a bit of jazz.

Nice looking IWs you've got, they have a nice gritty look to them. I have a tip for you if you want nice and crisp chevrons on your vehicles, buy some masking tape (tamiya makes some great tape) and start by basecoating the area with either tausept ochre for a dark yellow, or iyndan darksun for a brighter one. This gives you a strong base to build up a more vibrant yellow if you like that. Once the yellow part is done, mask of the chevron pattern and use a brush to paint the black areas, and make sure not to overload the brush as too much paint will ruin it. Then when it's dry you remove the tape and you've got chevrons

Well if he have one then yes, if not I'd advise him to get a real airbrush instead of the GW sparaygun, mainly because it is not a double action gun so the paintflow cant be controlled. I use my airbrush when making chevrons, but I've done it by hand/brush several times and it works just fine

Im not sure im entirely happy with how the Rhinos have turned out now i look back at the pictures, i have actually got no idea how to highlight boltgun metal what could i use ?? some white maybe?? i think actualy CSM marines look good i am pleased and as do my Khornate CSM, but the Rhinos and the Berzerker are lacking a bit. Need some help with highlighting if anyone can suggest something??
