    Lost Son of the Raven

    Gabriel Rook

Originally a member of the Raven Guard, Gabriel fought alongside his brother marines on the world now known as Archea V. He was inside the Basilica of Saints when it was struck by a massed artillery strike, causing the vast structure to descend on Gabriel’s squad trapping them beneath the rubble.

For half a century Gabriel lay dormant under the influence of the Su-san Membrane. He was finally dug out by the inhabitants of the planet as they began the process of rebuilding the city after imperial victory on the world. They used him as monument to their defenders, mounting him high upon the palace of their governor, Marcus von Haag.

There he stood for almost a century, in which time a vast warp storm had isolated the Archean system. The society of Archea V regressed swiftly to pre-black powder age; the old cities were abandoned as their massive spires acted as lightning rods to the strange storms that raged across much of the northern hemisphere. It was during one such storm that Gabriel was awoken. As lightning lashed across the crumbling city a single bolt slammed into Gabriel’s incumbent form blasting him from his high plinth. He descended slamming through struts of stone, before impacting on the marble slabs of the courtyard, shattering them in an explosion of stone chips.

Years of coma had rid him of his memory, leaving only his name and most basic of skills. He left his armour there, ruined after years of neglect. He set off, moving south, away from the storm wracked skies and tortured wastelands of the north, to a land of forests and lakes. Gabriel came across dozens of villages who shunned him for his monstrous size, causing him to become a hermit living in the mountains.

However, the ruler of the local lands, Ignatius Haag, heard tales, massively exaggerated by superstitious peasants, of a beast living in the forests. Inorder to easy the troubled minds of his subjects, set off to hunt the "beast" down. Haag tracked Gabriel to his cabin he sent two of his knights to inspect it only one left, a hatchet buried in his neck, Gabriel emerged blood spalshed across his broad chest and a huge axe in his hand, rather than risk combat with a man who'd just killed two of his best knights without so much as slowing, he offered Gabriel a place in his bodyguard where his skills could be put to better use.

This was greated with uproar by many, who believed him to be an evil spirit. However, with time Gabriel became the commander of Haag's forces leading many campaigns against surrounding nations, creating a small empire in Haag's name. A highly competant commander and warrior Gabriel is a lethal combatant his massive strength and size often turning the tide of battle, his name alone able to cause mass desertion in enemy forces. The warp storms are abating and who knows who will come to Archea V.

I like the concept, though there needs to be more of an explanation of how Haag convinced Gabriel not to kill him immediately. And what model would you use?

It's a nice way to get a space marine into a game without the power armour and bolt weapons. I like the back story a lot. The only nit pick I would have is that some sources claim a marine needs advanced chemotherapy to bring him out of a sus-an coma. But I've also read stories of marines awakening on there own too.

If he meets an inquisitor or other imperial adept it should be easy for him to find out his true nature.
How does his current employer feel about him, and has he seen the black carapace and interface plugs all over his body? Are the locals intimidated enough by him to prevent any possibility of them attacking him en masse?

His stats are high, but then his is a space marine. However, he has been in sus-an for over a century. I would consider making them lower to reflect this. He should probably have strength and toughness equal to an exceptional warrior, but nothing special for a space marine until he has had time to recover from his ordeal, or had access to an apothecary to bring him back up to strength. He should have the spit acid skill too, though he may not remember how to do this or perhaps his betchers gland is damaged.

I believe it's the melanchrome that doesn't work, hence the pale skin. So they aren't as resistant to tissue damage from radiation as other marines.

So basically he's one of the only marines who can get sunburn, and he's lost his armour. Poor guy.

I think the revised stats are spot on, with the low sagacity being a great way to represent his confused metal state. The only thing I would say now is give him a helmet. It makes little sense for his employer to kit him out in full plate armour, only to leave his head vulnerable. Other than that, he has a great backstory and seems like he would be great fun to play.
