    Mathean - and the 40k module-table

So first of all, hello and welcome to my first project log EVER.

I was lurking around on warseer long enough, know I should also post something.

    And her it comes:

    The 40k table.

Actuall a friend of mine and myself are building a play table for our 40k matches.

It will have 10 different modules each 60x60 cm. So the plates have the same size as the GW-module-plates and that means that 8(2x4) off them will be a great table for warhammer.

Since our armys are Tyranid (he) and Tau (mine) there will also be some terrain-plates wich are reffered to this two races.

So now a summary of what is planned:

    10 plates: size 60x60cm
7 terrain plates: with buildings, wracks, dead tyranids, dangerous and/or difficult terrain.

and things I don't know now about.

    Re: Mathean - and the 40k module-table

And here are the first pictures, of 4 plates we are actually working on.

The first one was made a hour before and sadly doesn't show the my favourite side of the rocks. But what we now know is that diferent persons do different styles of stones, wich can be a problem when more than one person is sculpting on a large hill.

So we have two sides had to be re-sculped so they would meet the style of the other two.

Just two more pictures of different variants to put these plates together.

Looking good so far, what material are you using for the hills/rocks?

    Re: Mathean - and the 40k module-table

so I will have to find a different photoplatform if I want to show the pics direct in the posting...

@beef5570: both, rocks and hills are made out of extruded polysterel. I use it the first time now, before most terrain I made (for my model-railway) was out of gypsum but for such a large table, wich should be mobile, something with less weight was/is necessery.

@sigur: yeah, now its overworked and most of it is gone. the problem was that the other stone structures will not work with the style of the whole gametable. however we will see the outcoming as further steps are done

    Re: Mathean - and the 40k module-table

It is, really really time for an update.

    And here it is:

    The transformator/power-station

while I was learning for my final exams my friend desided to build one of the first terrain-pieces out of un-used electric sockets and electric installation tubes.

one of the reactors is allready blown up, the other still works. we desided that it will get a marble socket and some stone decoration so it will fit with the neo-gothic style of the imperial architecture (or so). not sure if it really will get an imperial eagle.

    ===========

further terrain-pieces will be some stone-piles to build a canyon, some stranded landraiders, .... but that will come with time.

    ===========

....meanwhile I think a lot about the two plates where I want to put some Tau structures on.

It should be the first things Tau would put on a planet. so it will be

1.) a small base or fortress?

2.) and a landing platform (thats for sure):

I thought allot about should it be round or square but in the end I came up with this design:

it has place for 4 barracudas (white landing markings)

or for one Orca-Dropship ore one tigershark (yellow landing marks). and will have 2 small buildings on it (of course a (command) tower and a technical/fuel depot). however de design of the building are not fix jet and I am sure there will be some/a lot of changes. (landing marks have to get turned by 90 degree because the barracudas on the left side will crush the building if I don't )

still I am not sure with the landing marks.... they should look al little bit "alien" but not to irrational so they could probably be realistic enough to be uses (terrible sentence?)

maybe some guys of u could put their thoughts here, critic and comments are very welcome

Electrical boxes are the absolute BOMB!!!

Each country seems to have their own distinct electrical boxes. Someone should open a shop where you can order all of them, because they are PERFECT for 40K/Necromunda. Check my log for how ours look like. It's pretty cool to see this.

Your hill section looks awesome. Of course I shall be stealing your method for my own table. Keep up!!

    Sry guys,

there were so much... holyday trips that have to be done... but now I have an update at least

    Canyon Terrain Plate:

    Old artillery position...

But what happend to the Landraider? He has sunk into the ground... one moment brothers... there is something inside!!!

Electric wires, still under power will give you a extra thrill. After all the powerstation from before has one intact reactor

And of course we have also a waterplant:

Is there something else? Yes... the complete overview with some more terrain plates

    Re: Mathean - and the 40k module-table

    hm.... how to say... update:

Since the two landraider wrecks are from one landraider (wich has two left parts in his package) we have to build a backwall for the stranded one... wich was done with... an old pizza box

it looks pretty lame right now but I hope it will turn out better when its finished:

Since on every planet there should be some plants, we long thought of what will we use until my colleague hat this very interresting idea:

Obviously made out of bivalves and moss.
There are also ome greener water plants for later use in the birthpool and the small lake and some single plants for decorating:

Also we are getting colourful, the colour still wet, the picture is a little bit shiny:

    http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0102.jpg

Also our landed strandraider rock get some colour:

In the crater area, we have a very special asteroid... wich is made out of a small lavarock (the real stuff), long story behind it so I won't tell it

    Re: Mathean - and the 40k module-table

So then we want to give some live to it, and put some tyranids on the table...

And of course this action would lead to a battle on the very WIP table... with WIP armys of course ... 1300points of tyranids against tau. Funny battle and the picture shows the highlights of the battle wich were:

1.) My hammerhead takes out the hive tyrant (wich has taken out 1/3 of my army...stupid regeneration psi power ) only to become carnifex-feed
2.) The unbreakeable devilfish wich hovers through heavy fire to the tyranid's capture point causing a draw. (6 fire warriors and one of these digging two-pedal tyrranids in close combat, over the marker... was the endposition)
3.) the ghost-suits wich have done the most amazing thing: Killing a venator... IN CLOSE COMBAT. I got a Venator head as a present wich will decorate the ghost-champion now...they really deserve this

comments and critic are always welcome

    Re: Mathean - and the 40k module-table

@Comp: Thank you very much. First we thought of doing something cactus like plants but luckily my partner came up with this great idea. I also hope I can show some pictures of the ongoing on the landing pad... unfortunally for now it will stand in the corner...

And also an update on the birthpool of the tyranids, wich I have forgotten to upload (the water-snail-trees should later be in the small lake, but for now they can life here some of them will clearly stay ):

That's really tremendous progress there. You even played on the table already? That's pretty awesome.

Love the alien trees and the broken telegraph poles. Is the iceland moss stuff already glued to the shells or can you remove it for painting?

Anyhow, overall very impressive stuff and especially amazing progress. Looking forward to seeing further updates!

    Re: Mathean - and the 40k module-table

@VERITAS/AEQUITAS: Thanks alot. We well try our best

@Sigur: Well I am pretty sure you will be one of the first persons wich will play on the table when it is ready... after all we have a little 1vs1vs1 tournament to finish . The icelandmoss is already glued into the shell. We have still to discuss how much we really want to paint the shells, most of them have already a very nice coloursheme. In any case we will have to do something about the sockets. I think about putting some red pigments (Desert Dust) onto them (and every building) to harmonize them with the rest of the planet. The shells in the birthpool should get something tyranid... what this will be, we will see in future
