Axe to Face - A Warmachine Log

    Hi all,

Well, as some of you may or may not have noticed, I've been neglecting my poor Bogenhafeners recently. This is mainly down to 2 things:

    1 - Work.
    2 - Warmachine.

Yes, after finally getting fed up with GW and their relentless price hikes along with a general annoyance with their apparent lack of care for the community in general (I mean, the fact that they call wargaming "The Games Workshop Hobby" is really starting to make me a little sick and their recent slander of all online retailers is just unforgivable), I finally decided to try something new.

My Bro and I picked up a few battleboxes and after half a dozen games I can safely say I'm hooked (even though I've lost most of those games). I went for Khador as I love the communist Russian overtones and their heavy warjacks are just awesome.

Enough chatter and on with the pics I suppose.

Here's my first 2 miniatures. A Juggernaut and a Destroyer from the Khador battlebox. These really are some stunning miniatures and were a blast to paint (and are the first things I ever painted in red... ever). Just waiting to find some nice gauge wire to make some sweet barbed wire to go on the posts on their bases.

More coming soon including a Kodiak, The Butcher and Sorscha.

Awesome painting! Even better then your empire (which are very good as well!) As i cant motivate myself even enough to actively paint nor play games workshop games for personal reasons I wont even start anything non gw related, but I always love to see other people enjoy other games and produce these kind of stunning pieces. Wow cracking jacks. They've certainly been through the wars.

Love the bright vibrant reds. How'd you do the chipping effect?

Gorgeous. The red is rich and bright and the battle damage is incredible.

These are astounding mate, doubly so if they're the first full minis you've painted in red! Really looking forward to watching this log grow.

    In Khador, axe grinds you.

Loving this, especially the battle damage.
Whenever someone says "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart", all I hear is "I'm not real smart, but I'm imaginary smart".

I've been going through the same transformation. Once you go privateer press you can't really return to GW. The game has so much more thought put in to it. Anyways, I'll save my raving and ranting. Your model looks awesome. The battle damage is incredibly well done. I can't wait to see your take on Beast 09

Awesome paint job on those jacks, the battle damage and rust and verdigris really take these models to the next level. Dare I say it they look better than those on the PP website! I haven't really looked into warmachine but I'm glad to see people like you taking a stand against GW and providing inspiring blogs for the rest of us

Wow! Those are really well done.

I think that's the first time I've ever experienced a genuine shiver of dread when looking at a miniature.
(in the sense that from your painting its really easy to imagine them in real life)

Thank you all for your comments. Really makes painting worthwhile when others get to enjoy the results too.

The chipping is done by sponging a mix of GW Scorched Brown and black gently over the edges of the fininshed miniature (which is pretty scary when you've spent hours blending). Then the centre of larger wear areas are painted with a little mithril silver. To get the chipped look, go around all the sponged areas highlighting the red/white below each and every chip.

Finally for a bit of added wear and corrosion I give the chipped areas a wash of Gryphonne Sepia on the white and Devlan Mud on the red.

Here's a little crappy paint image i made to kind of illustrate it:

Thanks. I don't own Beast 09 yet but he's definitely on my list for future. I tend to prefer lots of cheaper (points wise) jacks with Butcher as that seems to work best with full throttle.

Anyhow, on to the main event. Finally got my favourite Warcaster finished so I present to you, Orsus Zoktavir, The Butcher of Khardov:

The lighting is a bit crappy but you get the idea. I'll do better pics once I get my photo setup re-built.

Not posted them there yet. May pop over there and have a look later.

In the meantime, I decided to get on with some more warmachine stuff. This time my Bro's cryx (he's too lazy to paint much and they were looking at me all forlorn and unloved):

    The whole battlegroup:

    Slayer:

A pair of deathrippers (love these guys and their *****-eating grins):

Defiler (this guy, I don't like so much):

Deneghra (Not my greatest work. Really need to practice OSL a bit more)

Anyway, hope you likey. More Khador goodness on the way soon.
